Three Cheers for Delilah!

The George R. Brown (GRB) Convention Center recently hosted the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) show in Houston, marking a milestone as the largest electrical event ever held at the GRB. This feat was primarily due to the extensive array of ovens and refrigerators showcased during the event.

The scale of the electrical infrastructure installed for the IDDBA show was remarkable, boasting 4,079 120v electrical drops and 192 208v electrical drops. To guarantee smooth operations, a dedicated team of 18 electricians and 16 plumbers were on-site throughout the event, highlighting the meticulous planning and execution required for such a massive gathering. We thank all of them for their hard work and determination to bring this event over the finish line.

The IDDBA is a nonprofit trade association catering to a diverse range of industry professionals including food retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, brokers, distributors, and more. Their annual tradeshow is a premier event, attracting over 10,000 registrants and boasting participation from over 800 exhibiting companies. Renowned speakers from various fields, including business, policy making, culinary arts, and athletics, contribute to the event’s prestige.

One of the unique highlights of the IDDBA show was the presence of Delilah, a 5-year-old pregnant heifer, whose visit to the Pre-Con area provided an unexpected and memorable touch to the event, offering attendees (and members of a our team) a fun photo opportunity.

The success of the IDDBA show at the GRB is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Smart City Networks and the GRB team. The event’s impact reflects the commitment of both entities to deliver exceptional electrical and technological solutions. This commitment is demonstrated by the staggering amount of power ordered for the event, totaling 6,631,050 watts or 6.6 Megawatts, equivalent to powering 1,980 homes. Such figures underscore the capabilities of the GRB and Smart City Networks in handling large-scale gatherings.

The seamless execution of services for the IDDBA show further solidifies the GRB’s reputation as a top-tier destination for hosting events of this magnitude. It reaffirms our dedication to innovation and collaboration, ensuring the success of countless future events. As we look forward to future opportunities, both Smart City and the GRB are well positioned to continue our tradition of excellence in event hosting.
