“Hot Topics in Education” An interactive look at what topics are hot with today’s educators Cathy Cook, Early Childhood Coordinator

10:50 Break 11:00 Workshop-Session 1 A. Hot Zumba Looking for a way to get rid of the stress of the day? This high energy class is the “Hot” answer to dancing stress away. It is taken at your own pace and good for people of varied skill levels. Elisa Torres-Gonzalez, Instructor B. Hot Times in the KitchenCooking with Kids: Have often found that planning a great cooking activity ends up with a chorus of “But I wanted to crack the egg”! Come learn some great ideas for cooking with kids that don’t require sharing the spoon. These individual cooking activities for kids are a sure recipe for success! C. It’s a Jungle Out There This great workshop will explore “Hot” ideas for outdoor play that take into consideration how to keep the children in your care with safe. Come learn how to make adventuring in the backyard exciting, fun and safe for the children in your care. Dorothy Sluss, Professor Elementary Education, JMU D. “Hot” Buttons This workshop is designed to help child care professionals strengthen their interpersonal skills in the child care setting. Strategies for communicating effectively with coworkers, parents, and administration as well as strategies for becoming an active listener will be examined.
