SAM MANFIELD PORTFOLIO

SUBURBAN RENEWAL

OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO DESIGN AN ARCHITECTURAL SPACE THAT SPECIFICALLY MEETS THE NEEDS OF YOUNG FAMILIES WITHIN THE EXISTING SUBURB. THIS ENTAILS CREATING A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN TO PLAY AND LEARN, WHILE OFFERING ADULTS A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO RELAX, UNWIND, AND INDULGE IN DELICIOUS FOOD AND DRINKS. ADDITIONALLY, WE AIM TO INCLUDE A FENCED GREEN SPACE WHERE FAMILIES CAN BRING THEIR PETS TO RUN FREELY.

THE CENTERPIECE OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE A CAPTIVATING PLAY MAZE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE AN EXCITING AND CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN. WE PLAN TO REPURPOSE THE EXISTING WAREHOUSE MATERIALS, USING THEM AS WALLS FOR THE MAZE DURING THE DECONSTRUCTION PROCESS.

MOREOVER, WE WILL INCORPORATE A PET-FRIENDLY GREEN SPACE THAT CATERS TO BOTH FURRY FRIENDS AND THEIR OWNERS. THIS SPACE WILL FEATURE AMPLE SEATING AREAS, WATER FOUNTAINS, AND SHADE STRUCTURES, ENSURING THE COMFORT AND HAPPINESS OF ALL VISITORS. IT WILL ALSO SERVE AS A THOROUGHFARE, CONNECTING THE RESIDENTIAL AREA TO THE SOUTH AND ST VINCENT’S ROAD TO THE WEST.

TO CREATE A WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE FOR ADULTS, BOTH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SEATING WILL BE PROVIDED, SURROUNDED BY LUSH GREENERY AND LANDSCAPING. THIS WILL ENABLE GUESTS TO ENJOY THE SPACE REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

TO PROMOTE INCLUSIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY, OUR DESIGN WILL PRIORITIZE FEATURES SUCH AS SOLAR PANELS, RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS, AND THE USE OF RECYCLED MATERIALS. FURTHERMORE, WE WILL ENSURE WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY AND FOSTER AN INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

OVERALL, OUR AIM IS TO DEVELOP AN EXCITING, SAFE, AND INVITING COMMUNITY PRECINCT THAT CATERS TO THE NEEDS AND DESIRES OF YOUNG FAMILIES, THEIR CHILDREN, AND THEIR PETS. THIS PROJECT WILL ENHANCE THE EXISTING SUBURB AND OFFER A UNIQUE AND ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALL WHO VISIT.

AGEING IN PLACE

WITH AN INCREASING PRESSURE ON HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES AND HEALTHCARE DUE TO AN AGEING POPULATION. THIS DESIGN ATTEMPTED TO ALLOW PEOPLE LIVE AT HOME INDEPENDENTLY FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. THE PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL HOUSE IS BUILT AROUND A CENTRAL COURTYARD/ GARDEN. THE MAIN LIVING, DINING, BEDROOM, AND LAUNDRY AREAS, ARE ALL LOCATED WITHIN THE FRONT SECTION OF THE HOUSE. ALL OF THESE LOCATIONS ARE ON THE SAME LEVEL. WHILST THE SPARE BEDROOM, STUDY AND SECOND TOILET ARE LOCATED AT THE BACK OF THE PROPERTY AND ELEVATED FROM THE FRONT WITH A U SHAPED STAIR. ALLOWING CARERS/FAMILY MEMBERS A PLACE TO STAY AND UTILISE, WHILST THE OCCUPANTS CAN REMAIN IN THE FRONT SECTION OF THE HOUSE AND NOT NEED TO USE THESE STAIRS. THE HOUSE WAS ALSO DESIGNED WITH CLERESTORY WINDOWS THROUGHOUT THE MAIN SECTIONS OF THE HOUSE TO MAXIMISE NATURAL LIGHT, AND VENTILATION TO REDUCE THE NEED FOR ENERGY

PINNACLE IS AN ENSAMBLE OF THREE SPACES LAYERED ONE ON TOP OF ANOTHER. EACH OF THESE SPACES SHOWCASES BRISBANE CITY THROUGH ART. WITH LEVEL ONE FRAMING VIEWS OF THE STOREY BRIDGE, LEVEL TWO DISPLAYS LOCAL ARTISTS WORK IN AN EXHIBITION STYLE SPACE, AND LEVEL THREE HAS AN UNDERGROUND MOVIE THEATRE ALLOWING LOCAL DIRECTORS TO DISPLAY THERE CINEMATOGRAPHY. ALL WHILST ENHANCING MOWBRAY PARK.

THIS RESIDENTIAL PROJECT FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING A NEW BUILD WITHIN CLAYFIELD, BRISBANE. THE LOCAL ARCHITECTURE OF CLAYFIELD NEEDED TO BE CONSIDERED AND MIMICED TO TRY AND REMAIN TRUE TO THE AESTHETIC OF PLACE. WHILST DESIGNING THE HOUSE, GUIDELINES FOR FLOOD RESILIENCE, LIVABLE HOUSING, THE NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION CODE AND THE QUEENSLAND DEVELOPMENT CODE ALL NEEDED TO BE INCLUDED WITHIN THE FINAL BUILD
