1. Prologue- perfecthealthsimplyput

Consciously, or unconsciously,wewalkaround with different expectations andpreconceived notionsabout theworld around us -ofsituations, of otherpeopleand even of ourselves.

Oftenthingsdon’t go as planned, andpeople don’tbehaveaccordingtoour expectations.Then when obstaclesarise,weperceivethose obstacles to be or causeproblems.

It takesdifferent amountsoftime, dependingon whoyou are, to getthrough such problems or obstacles- if youwantto, that is.And if youhave thedesiretoworkthemthrough,you maynot realizethatpreconceivednotions,orexpectations, is actually what have putthatparticularobstacle in your way.

That's whymostofusneedtospend time -a little or alot -understanding ourselvesand our surroundings.Partlytoidentifyyourown and others'expectations, andpartlytobeableto maintain thebalance that is rightfor you.

In oneofthe Indian Veda scriptures,the definition of balanceorperfect health is expressed– in Sanskrit –asfollows;

Sama dosha, Samaagnis, Sama dhatu, Malakriyah

Prasanna atma indryiamanah,Svasthaityabidhyate

Whichroughly means;

Ahealthyperson issomeonewhose doshas[2]arein balance, whosedigestiveprocesses[3],bodily tissues[4]andprocesses ofelimination[5]arein balance,

whoseinnerSelf[6],senseorgans[7]andmind[8] areinanalerthappy state[9],withtheelixiroflife [10]anchoredinitself[11].

More simply put, accordingtothe ayurveda and yoga sciences,perfect health is:

● that your innerbodyand mind arealert,

● that younaturally feel both spiritualand social harmony,

● that youhaverespect for, andlearn from, allour differences,and,

● by beingwho youare,contributewithjust that,and also with what youcan do.

It is this definition of health to keep in mind when we take acloserlookatthe differentkeysand toolspresented here foraneverydaylifewith balance, energy andjoy.

1.1Who canbenefit

Youdon't need to have anyprior knowledge of either ayurveda or yoga,but even if youdo, I believe that youwill find some kernelsofwisdom or maybenew perspectives andwaysto understandyourlifeaccordingtothese sciences. Regardless, theintention of thebook is to make it as easy as possible foryou to:

● adoptpreventiveayurvedic method and yoga philosophy,

● be able to usethe suggested practical toolsinyoureverydaylife, and,

● embracetheoretical keys that help youfind your wayand then guideyou on your path to supporta life that lastsfor you.

1.2How youcan usethe book

Yoga andayurvedaare sciences more than 3000 yearsold,someclaim more than 5000years [12]. Naturally Idon’t claimtobethe originator of theseteachings buttobeone whointerprets. With respectfor allthose whohavepreserved thesetimelesssciencesoverthe years, Iwantto do justicetothese traditions,but at thesametime make them easily accessible andrelevanttous, here,today,inour everyday lives.

In thefirst –the practical– part of this book, varioustoolsand tips forfinding balanceinboth body,mindand soul areoffered. Together with ways to identify imbalances,you will be able to find your waybacktoyourown balance, your perfecthealth.

Thesecond– thetheoretical –partdescribes what balanceand imbalancecan mean when we look at ourselves, andlife, from an ayurvedicand yogicperspective.Thisisdonebothwiththe help of interpretation of oldtexts andwithexamples from everyday life today.
