Whenthe“African”looksathimselfinthewailingmirror,whatheactuallyseesis somebodyelse.TheAfricandoesnotperceivewhoheis–hejustdiscernswhathe hasbecome.ThisisbecausetheAfricanhasbeen[intimately]denatured.Dolefully subduedandemasculatedastheAfricanis,hecannothonestlyhelpdisavowingthe verywailingimagethatreturnshishollowgaze.Inasatiricalgaze,whichisalmost scornful,theAfrican’soddimagewagesaratherspectacularwarofnerveswiththe African’sconsciencethrougha[satiric]displayofdisgust;adispiritedandscornful showthatmockstheAfricaninthisdistressedstate.Disorientatedandstupefiedas heisinfrontofhisowndoleful[andhelpless]image,thisAfricancanmerelyheap scornonthewailinggarbagepiles,whichlitterthegrievousboulevardsofhisvery ownFatherland.Whilebathinginthescarsofindignityscatteredbyhisveryown oppressor;andwhilehesadlybasksinthereflectedgloryofthis[overly]relentless persecutor’s[triumphant]exploits,theAfricanisstunnedbyhisstateofabjection. ThisAfrican…“remodelled”andsubdued,remainsunwillingtobemisunderstood. TheremodelledAfrican–thatis,that[sacrificial]victimofhegemonicintrusionis conventionallyincorrigible.ThisfairlydisorientatedAfricanbasksinhisdishonour whilegraspingathisscarsofindignityinascornful,degrading,andimpoliticway.
