Welcome back Olivia We’re on holiday in Scotland. It’s 28th August and it’s the last week of the summer holidays. Yes, the new school year starts at the beginning of September. Fraser Elliot We’re on a boat trip on Loch Ness with our parents. Some people say there’s a monster here. We keep looking but we haven’t seen it yet. Olivia Fraser The weather is beautiful this morning. I want to go for a swim but the water is very cold and I’m a bit afraid of the monster. Elliot I’m not afraid of the monster because Dizzie, our brave dog, is with us. Well, she sleeps all day on deck. She’s going to miss the monster. Fraser Elliot Our other pets are at home. They are with our neighbours, Ali and Leah. The parrot gets seasick and the cat hates water.

It’s eight in the morning and everybody is on deck. Mr Clark is fishing. Olivia and Elliot are going to tidy the boat and Fraser is going to do the washing up after breakfast. Mrs Clark is reading the news on her phone. Mr Clark What’s the weather forecast for this week? Mrs Clark The forecast looks good. It’s going to be sunny and quite hot. Mr Clark Great. Mrs Clark But it’s going to be cloudy later this afternoon, and windy. Mr Clark What about tomorrow? Mrs Clark Let me see … oh no, it’s going to rain in the morning, and it’s going to be a lot cooler. Fraser That’s OK. I can sleep late and miss the rain. Olivia What are we going to do today, Mum? Mrs Clark I’m going to stay on board and fix a few things, but if you want to visit Inverness, you have to go today. Elliot Aye aye, Captain! Olivia We can take a packed lunch and visit the Old Town. Mr Clark Good idea. There are some leftovers from yesterday. Fraser I don’t like leftovers. Mr Clark Then I suggest you borrow my fishing rod and catch some fish for lunch. Elliot Come on Fraser. Let’s go and get Nessie.

Loch Ness Loch is the old Scottish word for lake. Loch Ness is the second largest loch in Scotland. It is almost 40 km long, about 1,600 m wide and 230 m deep. Nice to meet you

It’s a very hot day. Fraser and Olivia are on Brighton Beach. Elliot is at home with a cold. Olivia is lying on a towel. She is reading a magazine. Fraser is flying a kite. He is also holding an ice cream that is melting.

Olivia Fraser Olivia Girl Fraser 16

Fraser! Watch your ice cream! It’s dripping everywhere. Don’t worry! It’s OK. Look at my kite. It’s really high. And mind those people! Aaaaaah! Oops! Too late!

Fraser trips and falls over some people who are sunbathing. His ice cream falls on a girl’s back. The girl gets a shock and jumps up. Fraser feels bad. He is very sorry. He apologises and gives the girl his towel. Luckily the girl thinks it’s funny and they start laughing.

Where are you from? Olivia Karen New Zealand. We’re on holiday. It’s winter back home. Olivia Cool. I’m Olivia and this is Fraser. We live here. I’m Karen. Nice to meet you. Karen Nice to meet you, too. Olivia seventeen

Who wants to come with me? Neil Us! We want to go, don’t we, Karen? Karen Oh, yes. We’re on. Fraser I’m going to make a phone call to our parents before we go. Karen Good idea. Me too.

Brighton Pier isn’t far away. They are walking along the beach and they are talking about what they are going to do. Fraser What do you want to do first? Neil Let’s go on the dodgems … and I also want to buy some souvenirs. How much is a Brighton Pier T-shirt do you think, Olivia? Olivia About ten pounds, maybe. Karen I want to try the slot machines. Olivia Be careful, Karen. You always lose your money there.

Fraser Yes, we can all go on the dodgems first and then we must try the ghost train. It’s so scary. Olivia After that we can have fish and chips. Fraser … and some ice cream – but you have to be careful. The seagulls often attack people and take their ice creams. Karen Do you really want another ice cream? Now Karen and Olivia start laughing.

Did you get it? Answer the questions.
