Look, the Princess! A car stops in front of the palace. The red carpet is rolled out. The Crown Princess is coming! She has beautiful clothes. She is going to a party. But for Victoria, it is more than that. This is part of her job. A couple of days later the Princess is doing something completely different. She is going to a bridge-opening ceremony. It is windy and her hair is tucked into a hard hat. This is a different part of her job.

What is she wearing? At her brother’s wedding, she wore a dress from H&M. It is a company that sells lessexpensive clothes. She has said that she is not very interested in clothes. And her favourite shoes are a pair of clogs!

Like a fairy tale In most fairy tales, there is a princess. It is often a girl in beautiful clothes who lives in a palace. The life of the princess is like a dream. When Victoria goes to a party she looks like the princess in the fairy tale. But Victoria does not live in a fairy tale. How does a princess really live? What is it like to be the Crown Princess of Sweden?

Crown Princess The daughter of the monarch (here, the King) who is in line to rule is called the Crown Princess.

In the old days In the old days, the King ruled Sweden. He wore clothes in silver and gold and looked rich and powerful on his throne at the palace. The king was married to the queen. Their children were small princes and princesses. The children had to marry other royal children. The King ruled for as long as he lived. When he died, his oldest son became king.

Kings and Queens It has not always been a king who ruled; sometimes it has been a queen. Victoria was Queen of England 1837-1901. In Sweden, Queen Kristina ruled 1632-1654.
