9. Board Game: Getting To Know You
9 Board Game: Getting To Know You
• Work in pairs. You need a dice (tärning) and two
counters (spelpjäser). • One of you starts and throws the dice. When you
land on a question square, ask your partner the question. • After he/she has answered the question, he/she asks
you the same question. • When you have both got to the Finish, you can,
if you like, start again from the beginning in case (ifall) you missed some of the questions. • At the end of the game, you should know quite a lot
about your partner.

22 Word Tower You can see five towers below with lines in them. At the bottom of each tower there is a word. In the first tower, the one to the left, the word at the bottom is car. On the line just over car, you see drive. These two words can be parts of a sentence: You drive a car. On the next line we find fast. Drive and fast can be parts of a sentence: I drive fast. Next comes slow. The opposite of fast is slow. Next comes train. We went on a slow train.

The distance between the dots is one hour’s driving
You’ve got a new car, so you decide to go on a holiday trip. You start in your hometown (you can see it on the map above) on Friday afternoon at half past one. First you drive north. After an hour you pass through a small town. But you don’t stop there. You go on for another hour. Then you arrive at a town where you stop for tea. On your map this town is marked with a letter. Write that letter on line one at the bottom of the next page. When you’ve finished your tea, you continue your trip. Now you go east for three hours. That takes you to a town with a good hotel where you spend the night. Write the letter of this town on line two. In the morning – it’s now Saturday – you stop at a garage and you fill up the car, and now you go north-west. After a little more than an hour you drive into a village. You make a short stop at a little shop where you buy two postcards and some chocolate. Write the letter of this village on line three. Now you go north-east till you get to the next place. It’s a beautiful little town where you stop for lunch. Write the letter of that town on line four.

35. a car trip
35 A Car Trip After lunch you go for a long walk. You do some shopping and also watch a football match. It’s now after three o’clock, so you drop into a café for a cup of tea. At four o’clock you get into your car and drive west. You don’t stop until seven o’clock. The town you are in now is fairly big. It has several hotels. You choose one, The Bell, which is close to the lake. After a good dinner you walk round the town before you go to bed. Write the letter of this town on line five. On Sunday morning you stay in bed till nine o’clock. After breakfast you start off again. This time you go south. After an hour you turn left and go on for one more hour. You are now in a village with old houses. There’s a pub there where you stop for lunch. Write the letter of this village on line six. At two o’clock you’re on the road again. You drive south, and your next stop an hour later is at a petrol station. You’ve got enough petrol, but you buy a bottle of mineral water. You drink half of it and keep the rest. Write the letter of that place on line seven. Now you go east. An hour later you drive into a small town where you turn right and go south till you get to the next place. It’s now five o’clock, and you’re hungry. So you stop for an early dinner. Write the letter of this place on line eight. After dinner you go south-east. It’s nearly seven when you get to the next place. You start to feel tired, so you stop for a rest. You take out the bottle of mineral water that you bought earlier in the afternoon. Write the letter of this place on line nine. After the rest you drive on. It’s past seven now and it’s beginning to get dark. You drive west for three hours and arrive home just after ten. On your way you stop at one place to fill up and at a second place to buy an apple. Write the letters of these two places on line ten and line eleven. What two words have you written?
