afterglow cafe

antcipation - explosion - haze

project concept

for this project, we were asked to design a memory cafe for the uk alzheimer’s society. the cafe is located in downtown phoenix, arizona. the purpose of the cafe is to celebrate the memories of the people the alzheimer’s society is benefitting. this was done by choosing a personal memory and translating the feeling of that memory into the space.

the memory I chose to incoporate into this cafe was from attending the taylor swift concert this past summer and all the emotions that occurred in this memory. the feelings of anticipation and explosion are displayed through the bright and playful environment by the way it embraces you as you enter. the anticipation builds up, the explosion of excitement occurs, and you leave in a haze.

willow lake farm

converge

project concept

for this project, we were asked to design a barn for willow lake student farm in manhattan, kansas. the farm also serves as a research facility for sustainable production practices for food sources. the goals of this project were to create a space that connects with nature, direct views out to the farm, promotes the farm, and bring people together.

all of the components of the willow lake student farm connect together with similar purposes. the orginal barn and the new addition are linked together to unite and converge the spaces and the people who occupy them. the open, central common areas and flex spaces connect all the people who are using this farm and encourage interaction between them.

acadia national park visitor center

dynamic nature

project concept

for this project we were asked to pick a national park and design an experiential visitor center. I chose acadia national park, located along the coast of maine. acadia is the first place in the united states to see the sunrise each morning. hundreds of visitors gather on cadillac mountain day after day to witness it.

the dynamic nature of acadia national park comes to life inside the visitor center due to how the sun path and seasons affect the experience within the space. the visitor center will allow visitors to experience the dynamic nature and different seasons, no matter what time of year they are visiting. the natural light will create a dynamic experience teaching visitors about the sun path and seasons experienced in the park. visitors will develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty inside the park, leaving them curious and eager to explore acadia.
