Southeastern Louisiana University on Nov. 22. With her new position, Hatcher will serve as a representative for the university by participating in various events on and off campus. The first event Hatcher attended as Miss Southeastern was the Ring Ceremony on Dec. 4. The event was held for seniors to formally receive their university rings. Hatcher attended the ceremony with Mr. Southeastern Brian Williams, a senior communication major, and helped pass out scrolls to students who received rings. Hatcher expressed how she felt after attending the ceremony as Miss Southeastern. “I thought it was awesome,” said Hatcher. “I like the fact they showcase the students and all their efforts because the four year journey is very long, and it can be strenuous, and it can be a lot of pressure and you face hardships, like a lot of students mentioned in that video. But it’s also a time to reflect on your accomplishments. That’s a really cool thing about it and have family and friends in that moment as well. It’s a moment of reflection like ‘Hey, I really did it. I’m right here.’ I was thrilled to be here.” Hatcher’s next event is a forum for equality. She explained how she will get
involved. “I have my next event on the tenth,” shared Hatcher. “I have a forum for equality in education. So, I’m really excited to be a panelist there. I also do have a Lion 4 Life, the launch they have on the twelfth. I’m excited. I’m happy to be here and happy to be a bigger voice in our school and our community.” After attending events at the end of this semester, the native of Chesapeake, Virginia will Janine Hatcher poses with SGA President Karley Bordelon, Roomie the Lion and travel to make it home for the Mr. Southeastern Louisiana University Brian Williams at Ring Ceremony. I only get to see them so often and this is a special time of year. I’m probably going to start some reading for my courses coming up, but that’s pretty much it.” Hatcher talked about what she is looking forward to most during her time back in Virginia. “So, in Virgina, there’s a place called Williamsburg. They have Christmas Town, so I’m definitely want to go to Christmas Town,” said Hatcher. “Might go take a little day trip to D.C., that’s always fun. It’s only a three and a half

While the university football team was on the road playing the University of Montana, a group of students and community members had the opportunity to cheer on the Lions at home. Athletic Marketing and Promotions held the FCS Playoff Watch Party in Strawberry Stadium on Saturday Dec. 7. The game was projected on the stadium’s jumbotron and fans were able to sit on the field while watching the game. There was no admission fee, and the community was able to experience a game-day like atmosphere without having to travel to Montana. Gabe Willis, dean of students, attended
the event and shared why he decided to support the Lions at the watch party. “If I could not be in Montana, there is no other place that I would rather be to come and watch the Lions,” said Willis. “It is great to come here and celebrate with this crowd. So, just to be in somewhat of a game-like atmosphere I think is great. Whatever kind of support we can prove, that’s what we wanted to do. That’s why I came out.” John Sartori, a senior communication major, expressed appreciation for having the opportunity to support the Lions despite not being present for the game itself. “I have been here at Southeastern since 2015 and it has been a long time coming for Southeastern football to finally make the playoffs,” shared Sartori. “Last weekend was

truly a dream come true for a Southeastern fan to finally witness a playoff victory. It is also awesome to see the community actually care about Southeastern football. I wanted to be a part of it, and I was not going to miss this opportunity.” Zariah Williams, a sophomore nursing major, echoed a similar sentiment. “I wanted to support the team as best as I could,” stated Williams. “I thought that it would be fun to come out here and cheer the team on.” Head coach Frank Scelfo explained how the team lost to Montana. “They literally beat us on all three facets of the game,” shared Scelfo. “They beat us on offense, special see FOOTBALL, pg. 5 Index
