Lions win game despite rainout

Homecoming festivities for Saturday’s Homecoming Game were postponed until Oct. 28 due to the urgent threat of Hurricane Nate. The urgency of the hurricane was made apparent Thursday when Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards announced a declaration of emergency for the state of Louisiana. According to the TimesPicayune, the governor said southeast Louisiana should prepare for a “direct hit” from Hurricane Nate, which the forecast showed would strengthen once it got into the Gulf of Mexico. Homecoming royalty to be crowned Oct. 28 RIANA BRASELMAN Staff Reporter

The Homecoming Court was presented at the “Lip Sync Contest.” Each member of the 2017 Homecoming Queen’s Court was escorted by a member of the 2017 Homecoming Beau Court. Due to Hurricane Nate, the original date for the homecoming game was postponed from Oct. 7. The Homecoming Court will be presented again during the halftime of the new homecoming game on Oct. 28 where the Lions will face off against the Sam Houston State University bearkats. This is the same game where the king and queen will be crowned. Some members of the court wore t-shirts to show their Greek Life pride. Some of the sororities and fraternity represented in the 2017 Homecoming Court were Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Omicron, Delta Tau Delta, Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. The Homecoming parade was also postponed due to Hurricane Nate. Any organizations that are interested in participating during the new date for the parade on Oct. 28 are asked to contact the Office of Student Engagement by Monday Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. Additionally, organizations who are looking to engage in storm relief, even if unsure how to do so, are advised to contact the Office of Student Engagement through their email at student. engagement@southeastern.edu for assistance.
