Lions conquer the Wildcats BY JONATHAN RHODES Staff Reporter

The final game in Strawberry Stadium for the seniors of the Lions football team ended with a 31-19 victory against conference rival Abilene Christian Wildcats. The Senior Day victory gives the Lions a 6-4 overall record and possibly their third winning season in the past four seasons. “Hard fought football game,” said Head Coach Ron Roberts. “We knew coming that they had been playing some really good football. Thought we had chances to pull away, but we just didn’t get the points when we got down there at times. Our hats off to them. They played hard, but our guys did what they had to do to get the win.” Thirty minutes prior to the game, the seniors of the team were honored with their families in the middle of the field. “Those seniors have done a fabulous job,” said Roberts. “We’ve had some seniors who have played well. We really appreciate what they have done for Southeastern Athletics and the football program. I hope we can turn around next week and get one more win for them.” The seniors on the team are

Cinderella spent her Saturday having tea with the Hammond community and invited Snow White and Sleeping Beauty to join. On Nov. 12, Cinderella had pumpkin tea in the Pennington to benefit The Restoration House Pregnancy Resource Center in Hammond. At the event, guests were treated to tea, sandwiches and sweets and children were even given their own pumpkin to decorate. “I think it is so nice,” said Tonya Martin, an attendee who accompanied her granddaughter. “It is very well done, especially for the little children. She is loving it. The activities were good to keep them busy. She hasn’t stopped since she got here.” see PUMPKIN TEA pg. 8

The players were happy to see a healthy turnout and stressed the importance of fans coming to support them during the games. “When you try to change the culture of the program, it’s very important that you get the fans involved,” said guard and forward Davon Hayes. “It was a good turnout. I heard some of the players say it’s been the best turnout since they’ve been here. So, it’s good to get the fans put here.” Taylin Underwood, a guard for the women’s basketball team, was also happy with the outcome of the event. “I think it’s very important to get the fans pumped up about coming and enjoying watching us play, watch us win,” said Underwood. “Compared to last year, I think this was a lot better.

I think interacting with the students would be a lot helpful.” Head Coach of the women’s basketball team, Errol Gauff, expects the fans to keep coming out in large numbers throughout the season. “Our students, that’s who the teams represent,” said Gauff. “Win, lose, draw, our team’s gonna play hard to represent them. So it’s great that they came out as a sign of support. Come on, have fun at the games, cheer, laugh, get excited like you did tonight.” The event featured an around the world shooting contest where the winners won a 32 inch smart TV.
