I started working as a lifeguard in the summer of 2004 and fell in love with it. Since then, it’s just continued to grow on me and has become a real passion of mine. I just really enjoy helping people, whether it’s tracking down a missing child or finding a missing wallet. There’s a real sense of relief there as well after rescuing someone, knowing that if a lifeguard wasn’t there, they would have drowned. It’s a good feeling to know that you’ve been able to help someone and save them. Preventative actions are always a big focus for us. If we identify someone who doesn’t look like a strong swimmer, then we don’t want them even getting close to a position where they’ll need to be rescued. It could be as simple as getting on the PA system, giving them some instructions, and helping to educate them.
