Reasons for a Plant-based Diet
good reasons to shift to a Plant-based
Diet by Dr. Hepsharat Amadi
There are many advantages to eating a plant-based diet, both for the health of the planet and also for one's individual health. More people shifting to a plant-based diet would definitely reduce our carbon footprint.
A United Nations report said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined!
Shifting away from meat consumption would also save a lot of water. Different estimates of the amount of water that it takes to produce a kilogram of beef vary from 13,000 liters up to 100,000 liters. By way of comparison, the amount of water it takes to produce a kilogram of wheat is somewhere between 1,0002,000 liters.
On a topical note, the British Medical Journal did a study in which they found that those eating a plant-based diet had a 73% lower risk of more severe Covid symptoms than those who ate meat, while pescatarians (plant-based, with the addition of fish) had a 59% lower risk. And that is not even taking into account lower risk to those eating a plant-based diet of heart attacks, and various types of cancer as well as often helping with weight loss.
