Summer Support

3 Ayurvedic Tips

by Sara Garofalo with Love Holistic Living

Summer is here! In Ayurveda, each season is governed by an element, and summer is the element of fire. You may notice some imbalances such as overheating, more irritable, red skin, and burning indigestion (heartburn, diarrhea). Balance in Ayurveda rests on the simple yet profound principle that like increases like and opposites decrease each other. Here are 3 Ayurvedic Tips to help you maintain your cool!

1) Eat cooling foods and stay away from hot spicy foods. Favor foods like cucumber, zucchini, celery, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, leafy greens, watermelon, melon, peaches, berries, cilantro, mint, dill, basmati rice, quinoa, and oats.

2) Cool the mind. If you are more impatient than usual, favor mindful activities like meditation, yoga, tai chi, and chi gong. 3) Take cool showers; avoid excess heat and steaming. Avoid excessive steaming, hot yoga classes, or saunas during the summer, and favor frequent cool showers and swimming in the ocean/river/pool. Try cooling and sweet oils like sandalwood, rose, and jasmine for calming aromatherapy.
