WHO WE ARE

ABOUT SLIPPER CLUB Founded in 1934, Slipper Club was the first women’s social club in Dallas and today boasts more than 500 active members. The club was founded by Mrs. Mary Blankeny Mallon, Mrs. Lavonne “Bonnie” Compton Crawford, Mrs. Lucy Jo Davis Burnett, and Mrs. Sally Dunlap Tetreau. The women were four Idlewild debutantes who designed Slipper Club as an organization that would promote friendships among future women leaders in the Dallas community. Today, Slipper Club’s members are largely comprised of women between the ages of 21 and 35.

WHAT WE DO Slipper Club offers a unique network of friendship and opportunities for professional women throughout Dallas. While still committed to its founder’s vision of fostering lasting relationships, Slipper Club has expanded its mission to include community service and charitable giving programs. In 1995, Slipper Club became a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To date, Slipper Club has raised more than $620,000 for local non-profit organizations and charitable agencies. Each year the club researches and selects a different charity to support, always an organization that serves women or children in the Dallas area.

SLIPPER CLUB GALA The Slipper Club of Dallas is preparing for its 21st Annual Gala and Silent Auction, benefiting our 2016-2017 beneficiary, and we need your help to make this year’s event successful. We would greatly appreciate your participation in supporting us in hosting our best gala yet on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Omni Dallas! This wonderful event offers the women and friends of Slipper Club an opportunity to gather in support of our beneficiary, Rays of Light.

Rays of Light, a Texas 501(c)(3) corporation, is dedicated to being the light at the end of the tunnel for children with special needs and their families in the Dallas metropolitan area.

Through support, relief, education, and love, Rays of Light strives to ensure that families have the tools needed to create a nurturing environment in which these children can realize how special they are and how they can prosper in the community. All programs at Rays of Light are free to families.

Through outreach and volunteers, Rays of Light educates and informs the local community about the existence, needs, and achievements of special children.

With their volunteers, nurses, and off-duty Dallas police officers, Rays of Light offers parents a safe haven for their children to enjoy a special evening while they enjoy a night out. The children have the opportunity to just be kids in a loving and nurturing environment.

PAST BENEFICIARIES With your help, we have raised more than $620,000 for local non-profit organizations and charitable agencies. Below is a more in-depth look at our last five years: •

2016 - $53,500 to the “IHAD” Foundation, helping “Dreamers,” students attending under-resourced schools and living in housing projects, by providing long-term academic support, after school activities, meals, and clothing, empowering the Dreamers to graduate from high school and attend college.

2015 - $80,500 to Camp John Marc, dedicated to helping children, teens and families impacted by chronic illness or physical challenges experience the outdoors while continuing to receive treatment.

2014 - $51,000 to New Friends New Life, instrumental in restoring and empowering trafficked teen girls and sexually exploited women and their children

•

2013 - $65,000 to Communities in Schools, Dallas region. The funds raised helped students at risk of failure stay in school, achieve academically, and graduate.

2012 - $40,000 to Heroes for Children. The money raised was used for the HFC Pediatric Cancer 3R Retreat, providing 35 children battling cancer a place to reprieve, reconnect and recharge.
