Tabby Callaghan – Rock

Born in Manchester, Karl started to learn the guitar at the age of seven. He has embraced blues, rock and jazz styles and performed all of these with many of the area's finest musicians. Karl has lately focused on playing with the six piece Bughouse Jazz Band alongside his solo work.

Collette Sheerin, Anna Houston & Ray Coen – Folk/traditional Sligo born Tabby Callaghan (29) is a riffing /singing /songwriting/performer with an impressive history of gigs from The Cavern, made famous by The Beatles, 'O2 in the Park' in front of 100,000 people, to sold out shows in Wembley. He's had the privilege to join some world renowned artists such as Ozzy Osbourne in the studio and share the same stage as Tom Jones and interview Rod Stewart for his documentary, "What Tabby Did Next," for ITV. The thing that matters most to Tabby is his music, with twists of Hendrix meets Bowie and a hefty tablespoon of Prince flavoured vibes.

Karl Burthom – Blues, classical, rock, country & jazz Karl Burthom is a self taught classical guitarist who has been performing in the Sligo area for the last ten years.

Swiss born Anna Houston plays banjo, mandolin in this session. She is also one of the key members in the band “No Crows”. Collette Sheerin plays the flute and tin whistle and sings some very melodic folk songs. Ray Coen is a songwriter of consummate skill and a performer of the utmost integrity. A salt–of–the–earth artist, He is devoid of cynicism and deserves to be taken very seriously.

Carrie McCarthy – Pop/Rock Carrie is a local singer rising up in the Sligo live music scene. Having been brought up in a musical household, where her father and brother of two piece ‘Itchy and Scratchy’ soon introduced her to the wonderful world of live gigging. With influences ranging from The Beatles to Imelda May, expect a wide range of cool classic covers accompanied by her brother Sean McCarthy of Whitewater/Mackadons fame on guitar and vocals.

Friday 30th July, 4:30pm Hargadons, O’Connell St. Own A Chord – Barbershop/Accapello A novel male voice harmony group, Own A Chord were originally a barbershop quartet. Their repertoire includes many acappella arrangements which are contemporary and fun to sing. They have performed on several radio shows. The group comprises Liam Cunningham, Micki Murray, Tommie Bree and John McHugh, directed by Cass Smith.

Thursday 29th July, 10:30pm McHugh’s (upstairs), Grattan St. Live Music – 2 Bands Our Thursdays, is an exciting showcase for up and coming bands to win the opportunity to join the likes of Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini and José González on the bill as part of this year's Arthur's Day celebrations. Spectators will all be given the chance to vote on who makes it through to the final pub showcase on August 5th.

Friday 30th July, 8:00pm Earley’s, Bridge St. Danjo – Trad/Country/Bluegrass Joe Davitt plays banjo and Danny O’Hagan guitar and vocals. These two excellent Sligo based musicians play a mix of traditional Irish music, country music and bluegrass. They are usually joined by other local musicians.

Yvonne Cunningham Band – Latin Swing Jazz Yvonne Cunningham is a singer songwriter and voice coach. She is an accomplished performer in a variety of musical genres. Yvonne is accompanied in her performance by guitarists Bernard Tohill and Jim Meehan. The trio perform a broad mix of Latin, Swing Jazz and ballads drawn from the Great American Songbook. If your music is Ella Fitzgerald meets Blossom Dearie with a little bit of Duke Ellington, stop by and hear this trio of accomplished jazz musicians.

Friday 30th July, 10:00pm Foley’s, Castle Street Michael Lavelle & Sean Lynch – Traditional Friends since early childhood, Michael and Seán successfully competed in Fleadhanna Cheol throughout their school years. They now regularly bring their combination of Uilleann pipes, Scottish small pipes, Border pipes, concert flute and whistles to seisúin in Sligo, Galway,Carlow and Mayo. Living in Achill Island, Co Mayo, has given these young musicians an appreciation for things of beauty and the unique musical style they have developed clearly resonates with the sounds of the sea.

The Odd Couple is a Sligo based piano trio specialising in jazz versions of pop tunes, TV Themes and classic jazz standards. The group features Kieran Quinn, piano, Eddie Lee double bass and Ken McDonald, drums. The Odd couple has gained some notoriety for its quirky arrangements of classics such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Riverdance - The Piano Trio Version" and "Variations on A-Team" amongst others.

Glasshouse Hotel, Hyde Bridge Dean Mahon – Folk/Rock Dean Mahon is a dynamic singer/songwriter based in Sligo's Gateway City performing classic hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and naughty's in his own unique style. Dean is a singer whose versatility and superior vocal ability means he is comfortable singing anything from rock to folk.

Shoot The Crows, Grattan St. James O’Connor and Audrey Trainor – Folk/Rock James O’Connor a 24 year old musician from Laois, has been writing songs for years. 2007 marked hisfirst appearance in the Irish charts with his playlisted track “Mr. Moon” appearing on the top 5 album “Our Space”. In April of this year, James and his musical collaborator, Audrey Trainor reached No.9 in the Top 50 singles with their debut EP "Falling Up". After teaming up with Audrey Trainor, a classically trained violinist and music lecturer from County Louth , they have performed all around Ireland, the UK and the USA with headline shows and opening for such artists as The Walls, The Waterboys - Steve Wickham, Bell X1’s – Dave Geraghty, Miss Paula Flynn, Mick Flannery and most recently the 4 of Us.

With influences ranging from Johnny Cash to Bo Diddley to The Super Furry Aminals they mix spoken word tales of the macabre with operetta styled sea shanties, singing love songs and hate songs that will sonically transport you from a 50s Memphis diner to an uber-cool indie club in Berlin and back again! Currently recording their eagerly anticipated debut album with Leo Pearson (Elvis Costello, U2, Christy Moore) these Kilkenny-based lads deliver toe-tapping sunshine wherever they land.

Both hail from Donegal and have played together in various formats. This included their well known residency in Sligo where visiting musicians such as Louis Stewart, Mike Neilsen, Richie and Michael Buckley have joined them on stage. They have recently teamed up with a young talented bass player, Stephen Gallagher, also from Donegal. This trio -d "Threeplay" – create the popular sound of easy listening, mainstream jazz.

Café Arabica, Bridge Street Aoife Grennan – Folk Aoife Grennan lives in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. She has been gigging in Sligo from the age of 16, starting in McLynn’s pub. She has also played gigs alongside her dad, popular local musician Gerry Grennan, and in a session with singer/songwriter Paul Brady.

Saturday 31st July, 3:00pm Twinkles, Union Street Hannah and Nell Kelly – Traditional Hannah Kelly (concertina) & Nell Kelly (fiddle) are two cracking young trad musicians from Rathcormack Sligo.They were winners of the all Ireland Duet competition in 2007 and Nell is the current u 12 All Ireland Fiddle champion. They play a range of great music including many Sligo style compositions as well as newly composed tunes - “ driving music of the highest quality”.

Saturday 31st July, 3:00pm Hargadons, O’Connell St. Louisiana Joyride – Funky Country If you like your music raw, drenched in whiskey and set to a funky country beat then this trio are full of surprises and not to be missed. Comprising Orla Lynch, Owen McNulty and Russty Li-Nesbitt (formerly of the Jim Armstrong Band), Louisiana Joyride have attracted a lot of attention since forming in late 2008. They have played in festivals countyrywide including Open House Festival, Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Belfast Nashville Festival, Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots Festival... as well as a host of other gigs up and down the country. Having recently returned from a support tour with Tommy Ramones bluegrass outfit - Uncle Monk - the band have begun recording their debut album for release later this year.

With just one guitar and one fiddle which swap hands throughout the act (the famous switcheroo which accounts for the origin of the bands name) there's a certain simplicity to the mix of blues, bluegrass and folk music that brothers Diarmuid and Brían Glynn produce. However, the appeal of The Brand New Switcheroo lies in the blend of the two voices, which has been compared to the Everly Brothers as well as to old time bluegrass duos.

Café Fleur, O’Connell St. Sarah Crummy – Pop Sarah Crummy is a new upcoming act. The singer/songwriter from Sligo town has played piano for seven years and also plays the guitar. She won the midlands final of 'stars in yer eyes' and represented the Ursuline college in 'our schools got talent' which she came second in. She covers many songs from a range of genres and also plays some original songs which she wrote.

Michael Kilroy on guitar and vocals and PJ Mc Tiernan on keyboards and backing vocals. This duo play a lot of Irish and American country from Johnny Cash to Johnny Mc Evoy, and upbeat numbers including The Rivers of Babylon and Amarillo. All suitable for dancing.

Spraoi (Winners of the Siansa Gael Linn competition 2009) have a new and distinctive approach to traditional music with great harmonies and dynamic arrangements of both old and new compositions. Unique to the group is the explosive African influenced percussion playing of Paddy Hazelton. Niamh Farrell’s voice is recognized as

They play a mixture of their own songs and covers, from Hank and Jimmy Rogers to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. If you like Western Swing and Country Blues these are the ‘boys’ for you.

Rodney Lancashire is from Cootehill County Cavan and plays bouzouki, mandolin, banjo and concertina.

They present one of the freshest and most exciting approaches to Irish Music heard in recent times. Mike Farragher of the Irish Voice puts it thus: “The Rye play, in their words, ‘savage driven ceoil.’ They throw together modern rock melodies into a stew of expert traditional playing, turn-on-a-dime chops rarely seen outside a lower Manhattan jazz club.”

Calling all kids…. From 6 – 12 years old

The street will be closed to traffic and open to fun all afternoon. As well as great live music and dance, there will be wonderful workshops with Ireland’s leading carnival production group, Workhouse Studios: • Mask making • Carnival headdress workshop • Make and learn to play your own percussion instruments For those who prefer a bit of peace and quiet, there will be Clay Modelling Sessions with Rachel Quinn Ceramics. Or you can “Make Your Own Hedgehogs” with Dympna & Mags. (This is suitable for 3 – 11 year olds). There will be Balloon Modelling with Elizabeth Jacobs, Face Painting, Stilt Walking and lots more....

Music for the afternoon provided by: Louisiana Joyride, The Brand New Switcheroo, The Breffni Boys, JPT Trio, Breeda & Aiden Shannon, Gavin Strappe & Jamie Mc Keogh, Aisling (Deirdre Farrell & Hannah & Megan Duffy), Celtic Flare, T-Town Botllestoppers. All Ireland dancing champions, Emmet Mc Morrow & Aiden Mc Loughlin will demonstrate their fancy footwork. To round off the afternoon there will be a carnival parade organised by Workhouse Studios. Participants in the carnival workshops will be provided with costumes for this. Everyone else is encouraged to dress up and join in!

French Market brings a touch of Paris to Sligo One of the many attractions as part of the Lissadell Fringe Festival is the French Market in the town centre on

Friday 30th, Saturday 31st and Sunday 1st August Rockwood Parade will be the focus for the invasion of the French which will feature the best in native French produce. It will provide a touch of Paris to downtown Sligo. Shoppers will be spoilt with a selection of Brittany biscuits, sweets and candles, savoury crepes, oriental pattisseries and dried fruits, together with continental style pick and mix confectionary. Those who are not into French cuisine can enjoy the wonderful selection of arts and crafts that the market provides. Caitlin Coultry (vocals / guitar), Erin Langan (vocals / bass), Paddy Langan (guitar) and Marcus Hunt (drums), play a wide variety of covers - everything from the Cranberries, Tina Turner and the Gossip to Neil Young and GnR - as well as some of their own material. The band stands out because of the two female guitarists up front. They certainly don't look like most bands playing the same venues. And it’s not all about looks either!

Rhob has spent the last few years playing songs and breaking E strings in every venue imaginable in Ireland. This incessant touring has led to supporting roles for such artists as Lisa Hannigan, Bell X1, Cathy Davey, Mundy, Mick Flannery and the late John Martyn, as well as backing vocal duties on Hannigan's debut album 'Sea Sew'.

The girls note: “We have been playing Irish music since we were able to first blow into a tin whistle. Arranging and performing our wonderful traditional music has been so much fun.”

The Jazz Ladds are Sligo's longest established band. Though originally known as a traditional jazz band, they now include in their programme Latin American (Salsa etc.), Blues, Country and even the odd old time waltz, when required. They are a 5 piece Band, playing trumpet, tenor saxophone, clarinet, harmonica, lead guitars, bass, rhythm guitar and drums. Four members also feature on vocals.

A novel male voice harmony group, Own A Chord were originally a barbershop quartet. Their repertoire includes many acappella arrangements which are contemporary and fun to sing. They have performed on several radio shows. The group comprises Liam Cunningham, Micki Murray, Tommie Bree and John McHugh, directed by Cass Smith. Pre Concert Menu.

People are flocking to Sunday M.A.S.S. at McGarrigles Bar, Sligo, every Sunday at 7pm. Local musicians from different genres meet with their instruments and Jam! A core of four musicians invite special guests every week to join in. There is no set list so the night is full of musical surprises for the M.A.S.S. goers and musicians alike!

Jackk and Jones is a new duo of Leon Mooney on guitar /harmonica and Leslie Jones on mandolin. They play an eclectic mix of folk, rock and country with a traditional bluegrass twist. This is a high energy show drawing on influences from the Appalachian Mountains integrated with songs from Neil Young to Steve Earle.

Originally from Wexford, Wayne has played extensively in venues around the country supporting the likes of Damien Dempsey, Mundy, John Spillane and many more. With a wide variety of varied influences such as Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, U2 and more, he has won admirers for his strong vocals, smart lyrics and entertaining stage presence with Hot Press magazine saying that he is "one of a select number of musicians in the West with enough charisma to make it big."

Dave Sheridan – Flute - is one such instrumentalist and comes from the tiny village of Killargue, halfway between Manorhamilton and Drumkeeran. Dave is not just a dab hand on the flute, but the button accordion and low whistle too.
