W

hy an issue completely dedicated to fashion? Why not?! ‘Tis the season for buying countless amount of clothing as our calendars become overwhelmed with going to staff parties (sometimes for places where we are not even staff), dinner parties and of course the events that sometimes cost just as much our entire outfit - we complain but we go - and everyone is looking at what or who you are wearing. 2015 Fashion in Jamaica was dominated by the ultra-feminine body hugging dresses and skirt sets to show off the asssss-ets. It was really the year of the booty! Men showed out in prints like stripes, polka dots and bold colors like red that made us look. Now as we step into the most wonderful and fashionable time of the year, already we are seeing that well tailored pieces for both men and women will be a hit for the season! Sprinkles of lace, crochet, mesh and sheer items will dominate each event for women and we cannot forget that there is nothing more festive than a sequin number to go with the current twinkle around the island. We called on some of Jamaica’s most noteworthy designers, party go-ers and those who currently control the musical airwaves to get their take on what’s hot for them, style-wise, this season. Our covergirl, Miss Universe Jamaica 2014 Kaci Fennell, was the perfect choice to lead the way, with a gentle and sweet spirit that instantly draws you in, a face that is completely unforgettable and a body that is every designer’s dream. They say a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life, was that the sentiment when you first made the big chop and how long ago did this happen?

For me I think I was mostly a sixteen year old young lady eager for a new look (lol) but then it slowly became how I felt most beautiful and essentially how I identified myself physically and emotionally as I had no long locks to hide behind.

If your personal style was a color what would it be and why?

It would probably be black, and I know it’s not technically a color but for me it’s such an adaptable base from which I always accessorise to make it sexy or sophisticated or urban.

Kaci Fennell Describe the past year in one word for Kaci Fennell.

Progressive. I’ve really learned what it means to work hard and enjoy the fruits of my labour. I have so much more clarity on what I want my young adult life to resemble and I’m fervently working towards all those tiny goals to making it true.

You passed on your title as Miss Universe Jamaica this year, describe that night for us.

I went through so many emotions that night having been in each contestant’ shoes the year before. I remember how much I -like all the girls in my yearwanted to win. I was happy to pass the title onto the current Miss Universe Jamaica Sharlene Radlein as she’s a truly beautiful and inspiring woman inside and out. Even more so exciting was all that I had to look forward to... all in all it was a really really emotional night.

Throughout your reign as Miss Universe Jamaica, what was your favorite look?

My favorite look would perhaps be my DrennaLuna red ball gown I wore after I came off the Miss Universe stage. I wore it to the after party and to South beach(where I had my own little celebration) lol just imagine casual south beach and a big red dress coming down.

Tell us about your involvement with Style For Change and what are the plans for the Christmas season?

I’ve been the first Ambassador and Director of style for change for over a year now and I’m so happy that despite me being in South Africa when S4C was launched I was still able to join such a great group in a big way. This Christmas my project dedicates me to a few very inspiring girls of a home here in Kingston.

We will be treating them to a fabulous christmas dinner and excursions as well as gifting them some well needed essentials like ceiling fans and new bed sets. I’m so excited and humbled by the support we received last year and that we are receiving now.

Describe your holiday style My Holiday is anything with a sophisticated glitz, metallics and deep rich plum colors. A little bit of white is always nice to add in the mix too.

What style item is on your wish list?

Hmm, a really well made bob cut wig! (lol)

What will your NYE look like?

I’m highly considering a NYE party in St Mary, I’ve been enjoying the coasts of Jamaica since last year so that would be a nice way to kickstart the new year. Wherever it finds me I’m sure I’ll be around the people I love most.

What is your style resolution?

To have a little more fun playing dress up!

What can we expect from Kaci in 2016?

I did a tasting of my Fenmade Pepper Jellies at the Kingston Belle Boozy Brunch this month and I’m so excited to launch it in 2016 Worldwide! I’d love to tell you everything but I simply must not (lol). All I can say is that if you’ve been watching my social pages and website most of my plans are all interrelated. Expect more long term plans and ideas to be launched that everyone will have the opportunity to support and sample.

Describe the YC woman The YC woman is confident, she’s not afraid to be edgy and sexy but still knows the importance of being sophisticated. She is also unpredictable and her style may range from tees to a classic suit. She’s fun and likes to be comfortable while still making a statement.

Where would she be going during the holiday season?

YC also has our swimwear line ‘Desert Swim’, so she would definitely be hitting the beach or a villa with friends lounging in the racy Grace swimsuit (with red lips and gold jewelry lol) and definitely checking out the season’s hottest parties in a YC custom piece or one of our signature wide leg jumpsuits.

Describe your holiday style My holiday style definitely includes some amount of sparkle, so anything metallic or with sequins is fine by me, but of course an all black or white ensemble is top at my list of what to wear!

What would you consider your perfect NYE and what are you wearing?

My perfect NYE would be on the beach with friends and good music while opening a few bottles and eating good food of course! HAPPY...Life is too short to not find happiness and do what makes you at complete peace with yourself and those around you, not only in this season but all year round.

To wear more color! lol. No matter what I am always drawn to black and gray pieces but I find myself slowly gravitating towards red recently.

What are the plans for YC in 2016?

I anticipate major moves for my brand in the coming year. A complete update to my e-commerce site that will include more product offerings is top priority for me right now.

SIMONE MICHELLE Misim Beach babe Describe your holiday style I love the idea of wearing simple, minimalist, staple pieces with statement ones so I like to get a little sparkly (but still comfortable, no matter what) for Christmas. This may be a little cliche, but I feel like its one of the few times I can get away with wearing my gold glitter oxfords or my electric blue sequined blazer lol.

What would you consider your perfect NYE and what are you wearing?

Every year I have these grand plans to travel or do something extravagant for NYE and they almost always fail lol. I think this is the last year i’ll get to spend it with most of my closest friends in the same place, so I really just want to celebrate it with them, sip on some bubbly, good food, preferably somewhere we can catch the fireworks.

The miSim woman I’m currently focusing on my swim line, miSimBeachBabe, which kind of caters to two kinds of women.

The quintessential miSimBeachBabe is the avid beach goer, one who loves to bask in our cheeky bathers, for the woman who likes to show off a little. And the other who likes that too but still maintains an air of elegance and sophistication by indulging in the line of resort wear.

Easy, comfortable, elegant cover-ups and garments which can transcend from a day on the beach to an evening out for a romantic dinner.

GRATEFUL - a lot of times we overlook what we have to be grateful for talking about all the things we want for Christmas, and a lot of people don’t really get to celebrate based on their circumstances. This year was so successful for me, and I would be greedy to ask for anything more.

What is your style resolution?

Last year I said I would wear heels at least 3 times a week because i have SO MUCH SHOES lol and i really don’t go out enough to wear them lol. But I think this year i’ll be a little more realistic and just aim to be a bit more daring with my outfits and also put a little more effort into being a bit more Business Chic, you could say lol.

What are the plans for miSim in 2016?

Take over the world ? lol. Well, I’m a self taught designer and I’ve finally decided to do a couple short courses next year to up my skills in order to take #miSimBeachBabe to the next level. I really enjoy designing and creating swimwear, but I’m ready to develop the brand into a successful business, hopefully employ a couple seamstresses, kick production into high gear and have distribution channels in Florida, California and Australia. In January/February 2016 i’ll be relaunching my website with new products and prints designed exclusively by me for miSimBeachBabe. Lots of work but exciting stuff!

He lives and breathes fashion and helps many feel and look beautiful effortlessly. He is also responsible for transforming our cover model Kaci’s pixie cut into a funky mohawk and adding that holiday glow to her face. We checked in with Mr. 3D to get his plans for the new year and what gets his style meter going.
