An incredible ultra marathon 73 km long, straddles the island of La Palma, the most western of the Canary Islands. The course begins on the Atlantic coast and climbs across the Teneguía and San Antonio volcanoes on the south of the island, one of the most recent natural landmasses in Europe. On leaving the ocean, the course ascends for more than 2,400 metres to the highest point of the island, the Astrophysical Observatory on the Roque de los Muchachos, one of the world’s major star-gazing observatories. From here, a steep and insidious path descends again, to the sea. After many hours of punishing racing, the final ascent leads to the welcoming finish in the town of Los Llanos de Aridane.

Course description: The race begins at sea level before dawn. Swiftly rising skywards along the backbone of the island along volcanic ash and rock, the course reaches its highest point, the summit of the live volcano Taburiente, at 4,243m. A sharp, fast descent leads back to the ocean with a steep final rush to the town of Los Llanos.

In just two years, the Mont-Blanc 80K has become a legend in its own time, in 2014 representing the Skyrunning World Championships together with the VK and Marathon, where 3,400 athletes from 65 countries participated. A slight course change is introduced in 2015 which, further enhances this spectacular race - a challenging 6,000 metres of vertical climb along ridges, over snow fields and traversing glaciers starting and finishing in iconic Chamonix, the worldwide hub for outdoor sports. This year, the VK represents the 2015 Skyrunning European Championships, also valid for Skyrunner® World Series points. FRA
En seulement deux ans, le 80km du Mont-Blanc s’affiche comme une épreuve mythique de la Vallée de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc et est déjà reconnu comme l’un des trails les plus techniques du paysage français. En 2014, il représentait les Skyrunning World Championships avec également le Marathon du Mont-Blanc et le KM Vertical, 3400 coureurs de 65 pays étaient au départ de ces courses. Alternative routes in case of bad weather exist. Capped at 1,000 runners. The Vertical KM starts in Chamonix and rises steeply for 1,000m to the Plan Plaz lift station. The use of poles in the VK is not allowed.

Representing the 2015 Skyrunning European Ultra Championships, the Ice-Trail Tarentaise (ITT), 65 km long and with 5,000m vertical climb, lies in the high mountains in the heart of the Killy Espace and the Vanoise National Park in a breath-taking panorama. The start and finish are in Val d’Isère, the internationally renowned ski resort. Now in it’s fourth year, the ITT is nothing less than an “extraordinary event”. The participants were unanimous about the difficulty of the course, today a point of reference for European “mountain” circuits. The altitude, often severe weather and difficult technical sections provide an exceptional challenge. The course continually flirts with 3,000m altitude and is currently the highest in Europe. In fact, the ITT sums up a host of superlatives – including an aid station at the Col de l’Iseran (2,764m), Europe’s highest road pass. FRA
Représentant les 2015 Ultra Skyrunning Championnats européen, l’Ice-Trail Tarentaise (ITT) est un périple de 65 km et 5000m de dénivelé positive dans l’univers de la Haute Montagne au cœur de l’Espace Killy et du parc national de la Vanoise avec des paysages à couper le souffle. Le départ et l’arrivée se font à Val d’Isère, station de ski de renommée internationale. Maintenant dans sa quatrième année, l’ITT est rien de moins que d’un «événement extraordinaire». Les participants sont unanimes quant à la grande difficulté du parcours et le considèrent déjà comme une référence dans le circuit des trails «montagne» européens. En effet, l’altitude, les conditions climatiques parfois difficiles et certains passages techniques auront raison d’une préparation hasardeuse. Le parcours, qui flirte régulièrement avec les 3000m d’altitude, est actuellement le plus haut tracé d’Europe. L’ITT, c’est le trail de tous les superlatifs car les coureurs auront aussi l’occasion de se ravitailler au Col de l’Iseran (2764m), le plus haut col routier d’Europe.

Hamperokken SkyRace® & Blåmann Vertical ENG
Tromsø is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the second largest north of the Arctic Circle. At 69° North, between the fjords and alpine mountains, the city with 71.000 inhabitants provides a substantial tourist infrastructure with an International airport, excellent bus connections and accommodation. Hosted by skyrunning super stars Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg, the events have been studied to offer a true skyrunning experience. The Hamperokken SkyRace® is classified as an Ultra as it will take 6.30 hours for the winner to complete. Just 45 km long, it counts 4,400m vertical climb over extremely technical and challenging terrain and has been capped at 150 runners. For a shortcut to the sky, the Blamann Vertical starts at sea level and climbs for 2.7 km steeply to the summit of Blamann, 1,044m, the highest summit on Kvaloya island over a supertechnical trail. The descent to the valley is by a steep couloir. 6h30’ is the estimated time for the overall winner. The VK is very short and steep with some scrambling near the summit.

True to tradition, the third edition of the Matterhorn Ultraks offers four different courses designed to appeal to every level and taste. The flagship race remains of course the “46K” (48 km, 3,600m positive climb), official event of the Skyrunner® World Series . The course, around and above Zermatt, offers the runners a constant view of the mythical Matterhorn mountain. From the start and finish in the Church Square in the very heart of the village, the course is a concentration of high mountains and wild spaces. In just three years, the race has been won by famous champions: Kilian Jornet, Emelie Forsberg, Zaid Ait-Malek and Stevie Kremer. Without a doubt, a winning list that can only get better each year. The Salomon Ultra Pirineu represents an authentic Pyrenean mountain race. 110 km with 6,800m vertical climb, the course links eight mountain huts across the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park, part of the Cavalls del Vent course. It was here that Kilian Jornet started running and here he will return for the seventh edition of the race. High passes alternate with descents through villages, allowing for easy access for spectators following the race. La Salomon Ultra Pirineu es la auténtica carrera de montaña del Pirineo. 110 km con 6.800m de desnivel positivo en un recorrido que une ocho refugios de montaña en el Parque Natural del Cadí Moixeró, parte de la ruta de Cavalls del Vent. En estas montañas empezó a correr Kilian Jornet, que vuelve a casa en la séptima edición de la prueba. La carrera combina los pasos de alta montaña con la bajada hasta diferentes pueblos de la comarca, haciendo muy accesible para los espectadores el seguimiento de la prueba. La cuatro veces campeona de la prueba, Núria Picas, la defiende como “la razón de ser de mi carrera como atleta”.

Course description: The race starts in the village center of Bagà. From there it climbs to the Niu de l’Àliga shelter (2,531m) and then down to the village of Bellver. From here, an ascent crosses the Cadí by the Pas dels Gosolans (2,410m), with stunning views of the Pedraforca, from where the descent to Bagà begins, with legendary places like the Empedrats climb.

Lantau 2 Peaks, like the name says, reaches Hong Kong’s two highest peaks on Lantau island – Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak. Just below, Hong Kong’s largest bronze Tian Tan Buddha, majestically overlooks the sea and the surrounding islands. From sea to sky, the race starts and finishes at sea level. While the altitude is not extreme, it’s compensated by the challenging rocky trails and the spectacular views. The direction of the race alternates every year.

Some races seem to write their own destiny. The Limone Extreme SkyRace® and Vertical Kilometer® enjoyed enormous success as the 2013 and 2014 Skyrunner® World Series finals, and 2015 looks set for a repeat performance. The events represent an important occasion for Limone, Riva del Garda and Ledro where outdoor mountain sports are widely practised. Limone counts just 1,160 inhabitants and, since the 1940’s, could be accessed only by the Lake or across the mountains. Today, Limone is one of the most frequented tourist resorts in the area, famous for its lemon groves, the prestigious olive oil and the longevity of its people. The steep lime cliffs that ascend skywards from the lake are perfect for the two skyrunning disciplines, rewarding the VK spectators with an incredible night time spectacle and the SkyRace participants with a breath-taking view from above, down to the lake below. Oggi Limone è una tra le località turistiche più frequentate della zona, famoso per le sue limonaie, il suo pregiato olio d’oliva, e per la longevità dei suoi abitanti. Le ripide pareti calcaree che salgono dal lago dritte verso il cielo sono perfette per le due specialità skyrunning, regalando agli spettatori della VK uno strepitoso spettacolo “by night” e, ai concorrenti della SkyRace, una vista mozzafiato dal cielo verso il lago.
