CASE STUDY
"Jill Creighton (above), a Glasgow based PR Consultant talks about her experience as an MCR Pathways mentor. I volunteered to become a mentor with MCR Pathways back in 2017. From day one I enjoyed the process. The MCR Team made me feel very welcome and the training was excellent.

I was quickly matched with 15-year-old Katy*, who was in third year at Knightswood Academy.
I was a bit nervous meeting Katy but we bonded over a mutual love for Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Before lockdown we’d meet for 40 minutes at Katy’s school and always had an interesting catch up. Sometimes we did a bit of schoolwork or talk about what Katy would like to do when she left school, and sometimes, we’d share Netflix recommendations or Katy would keep me updated on all things Little Mix.
Katy was in her final year at school when lockdown started in March 2020, so we kept in touch via Facetime – facilitated by the MCR coordinator.
"Katy is such an amazing young woman and I got so much out of being her mentor for 2 ½ years. She’s now left school and in first year at college with plans to become a nurse. We keep in touch every few weeks by email and plan to catch up for a coffee when lockdown eases. If anyone has an hour a week to spare mentoring a young person is such a great way to spend it.

FLEET ALLIANCE LISTED IN UK'S BEST PLACES TO WORK
Despite lockdowns and business interruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Fleet Alliance continues to be a great place to work, listing in the UK’s Best Places to Work for the ninth successive year. Better yet, the company has risen 13 places in the rankings from last year.
“I think that it is a significant achievement to be listed as one of the UK’s Best Places to Work nine years in a row. It speaks volumes about the underlying culture that informs the business, particularly during such unprecedented times when most staff have spent more time working at home throughout the various lockdowns than in the office,” says Managing Director Martin Brown. “We’ve also been conscious to take additional care regarding staff mental well-being, recognising that not all of our workforce has the same support structures around them.”
The ‘Fleet Alliance Loves’ programme is fundamental to the Fleet Alliance working environment. During lockdown, the programme has been vital in helping staff manage the stresses of home working by ensuring they continue to be happy, connected, involved and rewarded. A wide range of employee benefits, from Wellness Wednesdays to flexitime working, ensure staff enjoy a variety of advantages.
Employees are also encouraged to consider the broader social and environmental responsibilities of business, and actively participate in a wide range of charity fundraising campaigns and care for the socially disadvantaged. Congratulations to all at Fleet Alliance!
