HOUSING SELECTION

WHERE WILL YOU LIVE NEXT YEAR? Whether you are an incoming freshman, transfer, returning sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student, we encourage you to consider Temple’s on-campus housing accommodations. With our Online Housing Selection program, you have the opportunity to select roommates and request specific housing options.

Housing Selection Process The Housing Selection Process works on a first-come,firstserved basis. The earlier students submit a deposit, the better the chances of receiving preferred accommodations. Although demand is great and no guarantees can be made, students who submit a deposit on time in accordance with our proposed schedule generally receive on-campus accommodations.

Students who do not receive housing will have deposits refunded or applied to their university accounts as long as they cancel their housing request by May 15. Please note that delays in processing deposits may occur on nonbusiness days and holidays; and during system upgrades.

Twenty-four hours after the Bursar’s Office processes your housing deposit, you can log into the MyHousing website through TUportal to book your own room through Online Housing Selection.

Communication University Housing and Residential Life will send an instructional email to your personal e-mail account supplied on your Admissions application after your housing deposit has been received. Please check your email frequently to get the latest updates and information. The first round of email communication will be sent to all students in January. Following this initial launch, emails will be sent periodically, usually on a weekly basis.

MEET YOUR MATCH Finding a roommate can be one of the most challenging parts of the housing process. However, at Temple, we pride ourselves on offering tools to help you succeed. We understand that as you transition from high school to college, the need to find a compatible roommate is crucial to your decision-making process. According to research, students who use RoomSync perform better academically.

In part this is due to the choice you have in selecting the right roommate for a successful roommate experience.

Learn more about the RoomSync App on the Temple University Housing and Residential Life Facebook Fan Page After submitting the $250 housing deposit, you are automatically added to a system called RoomSync, a special roommate-matching program available as an application in Facebook. Students will be eligible to create a profile in RoomSync, search for other incoming Temple students, and hopefully identify someone who could become a compatible roommate.

Access to start your roommate search will begin in the early Spring 2017 semester and continue as we open the housing selection process for new students. Be sure to check out

tutorials from RoomSync and Temple University Housing and Residential Life to see these applications in action.

Enhanced Matching On Facebook At Temple we use RoomSync and Facebook to assist students in their quest to find suitable roommates. RoomSync is a Facebook application that builds upon Facebook profiles, providing users with additional tools to find the perfect roommate.

Commit To Live On Campus Once students have committed to live on campus by submitting a housing deposit, they’ll receive an email inviting them to join our private RoomSync network. Only students who submit housing deposits will be allowed to join. We send out periodic reminders to encourage as many students as possible to join the matching network during the active matching period.

Enter Your Information To create the best matches possible, users are asked some key roommate-matching questions. Then users fill out the detailed lifestyle questionnaire that includes topics such as preferred bedtime, visitor frequency, academic major(s) and residence hall(s).

Search For Roommates RoomSync users can search for roommates based on their ideal lifestyle preferences, filtering down to only those that fit or they can take a look at their top recommended roommates as determined by lifestyle compatibility. If students know a specific interest they would like their roommate to have in common with them, they can search for users with any keyword of interest listed in their Facebook profile. Students can also search for roommates by academic major and preferred residence hall.

Confirm Your Roommate During The Online Housing Selection Students can request a roommate with the RoomSync app on Facebook. Once the selected roommate confirms the request, the completed roommate request will be available in the RoomSync Administration site. All that’s left to do is include the new roommate in the online booking system by adding Residential Management System (RMS) PIN ID and TUid numbers. Pin numbers are created by each student during Stage 2 of the Online Housing Selection Process in MyHousing.

Off-Campus Housing Students considering moving off campus have many options, including privately developed and managed properties surrounding the Temple community. Oxford Village, Kardon Apartments, and University Village are all within walking distance and provide affordable alternatives to living on-campus.

The Office of Off-Campus Living provides educational services to students seeking properties other than those listed above. During Off-Campus Living Fairs, students can meet local landlords, property managers, and realtors to see their properties and learn more about local properties. Break Housing Students who need housing during any of the university break periods (Fall, Winter Break, or Spring Break) during the 2017-2018 academic year must select an assignment at 1300, Temple Towers, Morgan Hall Complex, White Hall, 1940, Edge Avenue North, or Beech International Village. Students who are assigned to Johnson, Hardwick, and Peabody will not be permitted to stay in their assignment for the break periods. To make arrangements for occupancy extensions through University Housing, visit the University Housing and Residential Life site at housing.temple.edu and click on the Resources and Services tab prior to each break period.

TOP TEN THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOUSING CONTRACT 1

You are agreeing to live in housing for the full academic year (August-May)

If your housing needs to change, you must cancel your housing prior to May 15 to avoid penalties.

You must be registered for at least 12 credits by the start of the semester and no later than the end of Drop/Add to remain in University housing.

Students admitted to Temple University’s Honors Program can also apply to reside in Honors Housing, one of Temple’s first Living Learning Community (LLC) Programs. The housing option for graduate and professional students is the Podiatry Residence Hall at Eighth and Cherry Streets on the campus of the School of Podiatric Medicine.

GRADUATE HOUSING

At Temple University, the Graduate Admissions process is decentralized and handled by each individual school or college for the Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus, and the School of Podiatric Medicine.

Students are responsible for making initial contact with the Office of University Housing and Residential Life when requesting housing information. This can be done in person, by telephone, fax, or e-mail. Students should provide University Housing and Residential Life with their full name, TU ID number, permanent address, telephone, and e-mail address during the initial contact.

In order to receive Graduate Housing, a student must first be officially admitted to the University. All applicants are required to pay a $250 Housing Deposit. Housing Deposits are paid directly to the University’s Bursar’s Office, or online through MyHousing using the Graduate Deposit Form.

During the spring semester, current students residing in University housing have the opportunity to participate in a Housing Selection Process to return for the next academic year.

Eligibility to participate in this process is based on: • Good financial standing with the University • Paying the annual Housing Deposit to the University • Being a resident within University housing during Spring semester Residents who meet the eligibility requirements will participate in the Housing Selection Process. Residents will receive notice about the details of Housing Selection prior to the process opening.

Temple University students who do not live in University housing are permitted to request a space in University housing after current on-campus residents have selected their housing.

Book Your Housing Early As space becomes available, all other students will be offered housing after on-time groups have booked their assignments. If you submit a deposit but are not offered housing, your housing deposit will be refunded or applied to your University account.

Both graduate students who already live at Podiatry Residence Hall and graduate students who do not yet have graduate housing will have the opportunity to search for available rooms during the Graduate General Room Selection Process.

Once your housing deposit has been submitted, access MyHousing to book fall and spring housing assignments on the designated dates.

The Housing Selection Process is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The earlier you submit a deposit, the better your chances are to receive your preferred accommodations. Although demand is great and no guarantees can be made, students who submit the deposit by the dates mentioned generally receive housing accommodations.

THE FOUR STAGES OF THE HOUSING SELECTION PROCESS Stage 1

Submit A Housing Deposit

New and returning students are required to submit a $250 housing deposit by the suggested dates.

Online: Returning students: Complete and submit the 2017-2018 Graduate Housing Deposit Form.

1. Log onto the MyHousing site via TUportal.

2. Pay the $250 housing deposit online to reserve your place in the Housing Selection Process.

New Students: Complete the Tuition and Housing Deposit Form available on our website. Mail your form and payment to the Bursar’s office.

Returning students can also submit the deposit in person or by mail: 1. Log onto the MyHousing site via TUportal 2. Download and print the 2015-2016 Graduate Housing Deposit Form.

3. Send or deliver it with a check or money order for $250, made payable to Temple University, to the Bursar’s office.

Stage 2

Complete The Housing Contract

Starting on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, and after the processing of your housing deposit, students will need to complete their housing contract in the MyHousing system via the TUportal.

There are four steps to completing the housing contract and they are: 1. Confirming your contact information 2. For students under the age of 18 years old, they will need to have a parent or legal guardian serve as a co-signer 3. Agree to the Terms and Conditions of the housing license 4. Review of the summary page After each of these steps has been completed, students can then proceed to Stage 3 (Emergency Contact Information)

Select Your Housing

Simply log into MyHousing and click on the appropriate icon for the process you are using. For example, Returning Graduate Students will select “Online Housing Selection for Returning Graduate Students” and new students will select “Online Housing Selection for New Students”.

There Are Five Steps Of The Online Housing Selection Process: 1. Booking terms: Students will select the fall 2017 and spring 2018 terms to book your housing assignment.

2. Roommates: Please email Karen Kostelny, Housing Services Coordinator at karenk@temple.edu to have your roommate assigned to your room.

3. Search for available rooms within Podiatry Residence Hall.

4. Lock your room choice for 10 minutes while you make your final decision.

5. Review summary and finish: Students can review their housing and meal plan selections and print out their summary page.

Stage 3

Complete Emergency Contact Information

You must fully complete the prior 2 stages before moving to Stage 3.

A condition of residing on campus is providing our department with emergency contact information in the event that we need to contact an authorized person in case of an emergency. After this step has been completed, students can then proceed to Stage 4 (Online Housing Selection) and proceed with booking their housing and meal plans.

POLICIES & PROCEDURES Notification About Your Housing And Move-In Details You will receive a letter to confirm your request for Graduate Housing along with important information from University Housing and Residential Life about move-in. The Graduate License period begins August 1st. Prior to arriving on campus, you must set up a Check-in Appointment. Students who move in prior to August 1 are subject to the fees and charges associated with moving in earlier than the aforementioned term date.

Summer Graduate Housing Intent As a current resident of Graduate Housing who has renewed your license for 2017-2018 academic year, you have the option to remain in University Housing through June and July for an additional charge. You will need to fill out the Summer 2016 Graduate Housing Intent Form. This form can be found online or at the Housing Office located at 1910 Liacouras Walk, 2nd floor, Philadelphia, PA 19122.

Cancelling Your Housing If you decide to cancel your housing application, a Request to Cancel the Housing License Form can be filled out online via MyHousing. Penalties are listed and are based on date of cancellation.

Staffing, Security, And Amenities Housing Staff: Several different individuals make up the staffing of each University Housing facility.

The Residential Life staff that manage the daily operations of our graduate facility include one professional Resident Director (RD), who supervises the Graduate Resident Assistants (GRA) that reside at each facility. GRA’s are student staff members who have been carefully selected and trained to assist students.

Residential Life operates an office at the Podiatric Student Residence Complex (PSRC). Additionally, Residential Life and Maintenance Staff are on-call 24 hours a day to respond to emergency situations.

Security: Our facilities offer several security features that support a safe living environment, including security screens (on first floor units), uniformed security officers and Temple Campus Police.

Amenities The location of our graduate housing provides residents with easy access to Temple’s academic buildings and libraries. Apartments at Podiatry have the flexibility of requesting either a partial furnished or unfurnished apartment.

• Podiatry offers community space for residents to socialize and plan events. On-site laundry facilities are also available.

• Electric, heat, water utilities, and cable TV are a part of the room rate.

• Landline service is not provided in your apartment. Enable WIFI calling on your cell phone when you are in the Podiatry Residence Hall. In case signal is not available, contact your cellular carrier for further assistance.

PODIATRY RESIDENCE HALL The Podiatry Residence Hall is located adjacent to the School of Podiatric Medicine and conveniently in Center City Philadelphia. This seven-story apartment building is located on the corner of Eighth and Cherry Streets on the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine Campus in Center City. The Podiatry Residence Hall offers the convenience of campus living for 127 professional and graduate students with the benefits of city life. Many of Philadelphia’s finest shops, cultural and historic attractions are within easy walking distance of the complex. Six different furnished apartment styles are offered to students in efficiency, one, two, and three bedroom configurations.

Other features of the Podiatric Student Residence Complex include: • Secured access with an attendant on duty during 24 hours a day • Carpeted living and bedroom areas • Each unit features window HVAC units • Newly renovated
