Transposing data means moving the row data to a column and a column data to a row. This is often useful for undertaking data analysis in Excel. At times, we may have to pull data from various files with different formats for analysis and preparing reports. In such circumstances, we may have to transpose some data from one file to the other.
To do this, we can make use of the Paste Special option in Excel. The steps to do this is as follows:
1. Select the data that we want to transpose and copy it (CTRL + C)
2. Then go to the cell where you want to paste this data
3. Right click on this cell and click on the option Paste Special. Alternatively you can also use the shortcut (Alt+E+S)
4. A Paste Special Window opens up.
5. Click on the option "Transpose" at the bottom right of the above window.
6. Press Ok.
Voila! You will get your data transposed.
