Bell ringing ceremony for the class of 2022

Hannah Smith, Editor-in-Chief

In the final weeks of senior year, shouts and giggles echoed from the school parking lots as the “Senior Assassin” game commenced, and one by one, seniors were left drenched by super soakers and Target-brand water guns. Amidst the stressors of the end of senior year, we, the class of 2022, found ourselves full of glee and laughter, yes, but most of all… vengeance with water guns. While silly on the surface, this light-hearted game is representative of the positivity and perseverance the class of 2022 maintained through trying times. For instance, on those fateful last weeks of high school, IB exams wreaked havoc on us seniors… and yet, we kept an optimistic attitude, playing games and making time for class connectivity.

From 2020 to 2022, our senior class took a “water-gun-game” approach to every barrier that hit us, finding optimism and laughter in the darkest of times. COVID sentenced us to nearly two years of solitude and online learning, and we still managed to laugh and learn amongst our “Brady Bunch” Zoom boxes. Not only did our senior class manage to endure COVID longer than any other high school class, demanding college selection processes, and other challenges that came our way, but we forged new traditions, embraced new beginnings, and set new records. The class of 2022, despite quarantine, completed a record total of 9,254 hours of community service, compared to AHS’s prior record of 7,464.

The 2022 college selection process was far from easy, with higher selectivity and decreased admission possibility from colleges. Still, our senior class persevered through the triumphs and feats of college selection, with students set to attend prestigious universities such as Georgetown, Stanford, Duke, and a multitude of other incredible universities. Ranging from Disney on Ice, enlisting in the military, and studying music in Berlin, several members of the class of 2022 are taking adventurous leaps into their post-secondary journeys. Athletically, the seniors in Boys Golf, Spirit & Dance, and Boys Basketball took state championship awards back home to Aspen. The vast majority of 2022 seniors partici-

pated and excelled in various sports across their AHS years, allowing this small school to hold so many titles. Academically, 32 Senior Graduates will be graduating today after taking on the rigor of the IB Diploma program. As of AHS records from 2005 to 2022, this number of graduating Diploma students sets a record. Additionally, two AHS seniors this year will be traveling to Chicago for FBLA nationals. One award in particular for the class of 2022 is not inscribed on a plaque or medal. However, these seniors are ever-deserving of it in spirit: 1st place for perseverance and positivity. Regardless of what the ambiguous future holds for us, we will confidently stride into this world of opportunity

with newfound resiliency and courage. So, emotional family and friends attending graduation today, congratulate these extraordinary graduates as we tackle this new chapter of our lives. We, the senior staff of The Skier Scribbler, leave our fellow seniors with a quote of encouragement as you embark on your post-secondary journeys: “It is with passion, courage of conviction, and a strong sense of self that we take our next steps into the world, remembering that first impressions are not always correct. You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself. Congratulations, class of [2022] -- we did it!” Elle Woods, “Legally Blonde.”
