Editorial
Wir machen Kinder stark! skate-aid steht für einen ganzheitlichen, selbstbestimmten Ansatz zur Förderung von jungen Menschen im Rahmen der Jugendhilfe, des Sports, der Kultur und Völkerverständigung. Seit 2009 nutzen wir dafür in unseren weltweiten Skateparkprojekten die pädagogische Kraft des Skateboards. Sie gibt Kindern und Jugendlichen in ihrer Orientierungsphase sinn- und identitätsstiftende Freiräume und hilft ihnen, sich auf Basis von Selbstbestimmung und intrinsischer Motivation zu starken Individuen zu entwickeln. So leistet skate-aid nachhaltige Sozialisations-, Präventions- und Friedensarbeit, wo soziale Missstände und schwierige Lebensbedingungen junge Menschen gefährden und in ihrer Entwicklung hemmen. Unsere Mission: Wir machen Kinder stark!
Aber was meinen wir mit „stark“? Was vielen Kids heute fehlt, ist Willensstärke. Und damit meine ich keine Bockigkeit und kein anerzogenes „Nein“. Willensstärke ist das, womit wir Herausforderungen meistern, Krisen durchstehen, Ziele erreichen. Willensstärke ist die Kraft, die uns durchs Leben trägt, auch wenn es mal eng wird. Willensstärke entwickelt sich intrinsisch. Das kann kein Lehrer von außen vermitteln. Das muss selbstbestimmt von innen kommen. Und deshalb ist das Skateboarden so gut dafür geeignet. Hier treffen Kids selbst alle Entscheidungen; Wann? Wo? Welcher Trick? Mit wem? Doch wie entwickelt sich Willensstärke? Voraussetzung dafür ist „intrinsische Motivation“! Intrinsische Motivation ist mehr als Bock und Spaß. Es ist so was wie ein starkes Bedürfnis, mit Begeisterung ein selbstgestecktes Ziel erreichen zu wollen. Menschen – und gerade Kids – sind imstande, Unglaubliches zu leisten, wenn sie motiviert sind – und die stärkste Form der Motivation ist nicht die durch äußeren Ansporn oder gar äußeren Druck, sondern die Motivation, die von innen heraus kommt, aus uns selbst. Ganz frei von Fremdbestimmung und Fremdeinfluss. Intrinsische Motivation lässt vieles zum Kinderspiel werden, was nur motiviert von außen zur Qual mutieren kann wie: Leistungsbereitschaft, Zielstrebigkeit, Fokus, Biss, Selbstdisziplin, Leidensfähigkeit, Standfestigkeit, Kreativität, Selbstverantwortung und Ausdauer. Und das bietet Skateboarding! Ich sage dazu gerne: Das Herz muss brennen! Euer Anstifter Titus Dittmann
We empower kids! skate-aid stands for a holistic, self-determined approach to the support of young people in the context of youth welfare, sport, culture and international understanding. Since 2009 we use the pedagogical power of skateboarding in our worldwide skateparkprojects. It gives children and adolescents orientation and identity-establishing freedom in their orientation phase and helps them to develop into strong individuals on the basis of self-determination and intrinsic motivation. skate-aid provides sustainable socialization-, prevention- and peace work, where social injustices and difficult living conditions endanger young people and inhibit their development. Our Mission: We empower kids!
But what does it mean "empower"? Today many kids have a lack of willpower. And by that I mean no stubbornness and no acquired „no“. Willpower is what we use to master challenges, endure crises and achieve goals. Willpower is the power that carries us through life, even when things going gets tough. Willpower develops intrinsically. No teacher can convey that from the outside. That must be self-determined from within. And that‘s why skateboarding is so suitable for it. Kids make all the decisions themselves; When? Where? Which trick? With whom? But how does willpower develop? Requirement for this is „intrinsic motivation“! Intrinsic motivation is more than being up for it and fun. It is something like a strong need to achieve a self-imposed goal with enthusiasm. People - and especially kids - are able to do incredible things when they’re motivated and the strongest form of motivation is not the external incentive or external pressure, but the motivation that comes from within, out of ourselves. Free from outside regulation and external influence. Intrinsic motivation can make things a breeze which can only motivated from the outside mutate to agony such as: motivation, determination, focus, bite, self-discipline, ability to suffer, steadiness, creativity, self-responsibility and perseverance. Uganda Skatepark Update Kampala/Kitintale Nachdem Anfang 2018 der erste Bauabschnitt der dringend nötigen Erweiterung des Skateparks in Kampala abgeschlossen werden konnte, ging es im Oktober 2018 in die zweite und finale Konstruktionsphase. In Äquatornähe geht die Sonne extrem schnell unter. Die zum Skaten so angenehme Dämmerung, ohne große Hitze aber mit genügend Licht, fällt fast völlig aus. Das mit unseren Freunden von Taiyo installierte Solar-Flutlicht verlängert nun die Dämmerung bis in die Nacht hinein und das ist nicht nur perfekt für die Skateboarder. Mittlerweile ist der Skatepark auch Jugendtreffpunkt und Kulturzentrum des gesamten Townships geworden.

Egal, ob Siraje (14) länger atemberaubende Airs machen kann, oder in einer anderen Ecke „Dame“ gespielt wird, alle nutzen den Skatepark. Unser Partner Jack von der Uganda Skateboard Union und viele Mitglieder der Community, ob groß oder klein, haben kräftig mit angefasst. Für 2019 haben wir weitere Neuerungen geplant, um das sehr erfolgreiche Projekt weiter auszubauen. Unter anderem arbeiten wir an einem Spielplatz für die ganz Kleinen. Auch ein Bowl sowie eine Flat-Area werden dem Park gut tun. Da der Bedarf vor Ort groß ist, soll Jack ab Mitte des Jahres von einem skate-aid Skateboard-Coach unterstützt werden. Vielen Dank an alle Supporter und Helfer für ihren Einsatz. Insbesondere danken wir Sophie, Clemens und Leonard von Taiyo, die das SolarFlutlichtsystem entwickelt, produziert, installiert und finanziert haben. Um euch einen Eindruck von der Skate- Szene rund um den Skatepark im Township Kitintale zu machen checkt unseren YouTube Channel. Wow...did you see that...yeah...LET´S SKATE!

Skatepark Update Kampala/Kitintale After completing the first phase of the urgently needed expansion of the skate park in Kampala at the beginning of 2018, the second and final construction phase took place in October 2018. Near the equator, the sun sets extremely fast. Nightfall, which is good for skating because there’s not much heat but still enough light, turns out pretty short. The solar floodlight installed by our friends from Taiyo now extends twilight into the night. This is not only perfect for skateboarders. In the meantime, the skate park has also become a meeting place for young people and a cultural center for the entire township. No matter if Siraje (14) can do some more breathtaking airs, or checkers is played in another corner, everyone uses the skate park. Our partner Jack of the Uganda Skateboard Union and many members of the community have helped us a lot. For 2019 we have planned further innovations to further expand the very successful project. Among other things, we work on a playground for the little ones. A bowl as well as a flat area will do the park good. Since the need is great locally, Jack will be supported by a skateboard coach from the middle of the year. Thanks a lot to all supporters for their help and their commitment. In particular, we would like to thank Sophie, Clemens and Leonard of Taiyo who have designed, produced, installed and funded the solar floodlight system. Manchmal laufen Dinge bekanntlich nicht ganz so, wie man sie plant. Aber that´s life und wenn man jedes Jahr zig Flugmeilen auf seinem Konto verbucht, werfen einen kleinere Turbulenzen nicht so leicht aus der Bahn. Wenn allerdings aufgrund eines technischen Defekts der Flieger erst mit ein paar Stunden Verspätung über dem Kölner Dom in Richtung Windhoek abhebt und man dann auf der Höhe von Tunesien von seinem Sitznachbar darauf aufmerksam gemacht wird, dass die Sonne sich vor ein paar Minuten noch auf der anderen Seite des Fliegers befunden hat, bekommt man schon ein etwas mulmiges Gefühl in der Magengegend. Scheinbar hatte sich das technische Problem dann wohl doch nicht in Luft aufgelöst und es ging mit einem geschmeidigen U-Turn zurück zum Flughafen Köln-Bonn, wo ich dann die nächsten 20 Stunden wie Tom Hanks im Film „Terminal“ die Zeit totschlagen durfte. 16 I skate-aid-Mag

Neben den täglichen Dreharbeiten im Skatepark stand als eines der Highlights, mal abgesehen von einem kleinen Abstecher in die Wildnis und Begegnung mit einem Nashorn, auch eine Audienz bei der Gouverneurin der Region Laura McLeod-Katjirua an. Sie steht voll hinter unserem Projekt und hat uns schon einige Türen öffnen können. Am Ende war es ein aufregender Trip und die Bilder und Emotionen die man davon im Kopf behält sind schwer in Worte zu fassen. Allerdings sorgt der entstandene Clip bei mir immer wieder für Gänsehaut und zeigt eindrucksvoll, dass wir gemeinsam viel bewegen können. Thanx an NIKON und Team Krolop für den mega Support.

Das inklusive Skatepark-Projekt am National Institute for Special Education (NISE).entstand durch eine Zusammenarbeit von „The Global Experience Münster“, „The Global Experience Namibia“, den Münsteraner UNESCOSchulen Schillergymnasium und Primus-Schule und skate-aid.
Endlich in Windhoek angekommen, erwartete uns bereits skate-aid Coach Gabu und wir konnten dann doch ein wenig verspätet Quartier in unserem Hostel beziehen. „Wir“… das waren übrigens Martin, Thilo und Thomas vom Team Krolop & Gerst, die gemeinsam mit Gabu`s und meiner Unterstützung einen Clip über das Inklusionsprojekt in Namibia erstellen sollten. Supportet und finanziert wurde das Ganze von unserem langjährigen Partner NIKON, mit dessen Hilfe wir bereits ein Video über das skate-aid Projekt in Kapstadt realisieren konnten. Wer sich mit skate-aid befasst, weiß, dass der Skatepark am National Institute for Special Education in Windhoek etwas ganz Besonderes ist, zumal hier Kinder mit Hör-, Seh- und geistiger Behinderung mit Kindern aus der Umgebung und den unterschiedlichsten sozialen Schichten zusammen kommen.

Emergency landings, Namibia, rhinos and NIKON Sometimes things do not go quite the way you’ve planned them. But that's life and if you put thousands of frequent flyer miles on your account every year, you’re not getting scared easily. If, however, due to a technical defect the departure of your flight in Cologne with direction Windhoek is a couple of hours delayed and then, finally in the air, at the height of Tunisia the plane goes with a smooth U-turn back to the Cologne-Bonn airport to finally fix the problem…that gets you thinking. The next 20 hours I felt like Tom Hanks in the movie "Terminal". Anyway…when we finally arrived in Windhoek, skate-aid coach Gabu was waiting for us and we were able check in into our hostel a little later. "we"… that were Martin, Thilo and Thomas from Team Krolop & Gerst, who, with Gabu`s and my support, created a video clip about our inclusion project in Namibia. The whole trip was supported and financed by our longtime partner NIKON, with whose help we were already able to realize a video about the skate-aid project in Cape Town. Anyone familiar with skate-aid knows that the skate park at the National 18 I skate-aid-Mag
Institute for Special Education in Windhoek is something very special, as kids with hearing, sight and mental disabilities get together with children from the neighborhood and different social classes. In addition to the daily shooting in the skate park, one of the highlights was an audience with Laura McLeod-Katjirua, Governor of the region, who stands fully behind our project and has already opened some doors for us. All together it was an exciting trip, including a little detour into the wilderness and an encounter with a rhino! The pictures and emotions that you keep in mind are hard to describe. The resulting clip has definitely goosebumps potential and shows us that together we really can move something. Thanx to NIKON and Team Krolop for the awesome support and good times in Namibia. The inclusive skate park project was implemented at the National Institute for Special Education (NISE) as a result of the cooperation of „The Global Experience Münster”, „The Global Experience Namibia”, the Münster UNESCO-Schools Schillergymnasium and Primus-School and skate-aid.

Im dritten Jahr ihrer Zusammenarbeit blicken skate-aid und innogy SE erneut auf eine erfolgreiche Saison zurück und können sogar einen Rekord vermelden: mehr als 800 Kinder und Jugendliche konnten an den Workshops teilnehmen, die skate-aid für das Energieunternehmen aus Essen während der vergangenen Sommer- und Herbstferien organisiert hat. 21 Kommunen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen und Niedersachen – von Lembruch im Norden bis Eitdorf im Süden, von Linnich im Westen bis Brakel im Osten – hatten dadurch die Möglichkeit, ein besonderes

Ferienprogramm anzubieten „Das ist ein Erfolg und macht uns auch ein bisschen stolz“, sagt skate-aid-Gründer Titus Dittmann. „Unser Ansatz, Kinder mit der pädagogischen Kraft des Skateboards stark zu machen, bei ihnen Selbstvertrauen, Eigenverantwortung, Zielstrebigkeit und die selbstbestimmte Entfaltung zu fördern, ist genau der richtige.“ Auch 2019 wird die Kooperation fortgesetzt und wir freuen uns schon auf die nächsten Workshops.
Skateboard-Workshops supported by innogy In the third year of their cooperation, skate-aid and innogy SE look back at a successful season and they can even announce a record: more than 800 kids and teenagers participated in the workshops that skate-aid and the energy company organized together during the summer- and fall holidays. Therefor 21 communities from North Rhine Westphalia and Lower Saxony - from Lembuch up north to Eitdorf down south, from Linnich in the west to Brakel in the east - were able to offer this special vacation program. “That’s a huge success”, says skate-aid founder Titus Dittmann “and we’re a little bit proud too. Our approach to empower kids through the pedagogical power of skateboarding and support their confidence, self-responsibility, determination and selfdetermined development is promising.” The cooperation will continue in 2019 and we’re looking forward to the next workshops. help across the board I 23

Mitten im Bonner Zentrum fand im Sommer auf dem Marktplatz der ehemaligen Bundeshauptstadt ein skateaid Miniramp-Workshop für C&A statt. Zur Begeisterung von Kids, Eltern und Passanten konnte sich jeder „unter fachmännischer Anleitung“ auf der Ramp austoben, die schon nach wenigen Stunden zur absoluten Attraktion avancierte. Info-Material über unsere Arbeit und Projekte wurde mit großem Interesse gelesen und somit war es ein runder, grandioser Tag mit viel Fun und Action. Im August waren wir dann im C&A Store in Köln beim "Kids Day" mit unserem Team und allem nötigen Equipment am Start, um einen „Inhouse-Skateboard-Workshop“ durchzuführen. Es hat allen riesigen Spaß gemacht! Die Kids wollten gar nicht mehr aufhören zu skaten, denn schließlich bekommt man nicht jeden Tag die Chance zu skaten, während die Eltern beim Shoppen sind und/ oder sich über unsere Arbeit und Projekte informieren konnten.

Skateboard-Workshops supported by C&A A skate-aid mini ramp-workshop for C&A took place last summer right in the center of Bonn, the former German capital. Kids, parents and pedestrians were exited to give skateboarding a try and skate the ramp under professional guidance. The spot was an immediate attraction and info material about our work and our projects caught everyone’s attention. It was an awesome day with a lot of fun and action. In August we went with our team and all necessary equipment to the C&A store in Cologne to accomplish an “Inhouse-Skateboard-Workshop”. It was just a blast! The kids didn’t want to stop skating anymore, while their parents went shopping and/or studied our magazine and info material. It really was a unique workshop but nevertheless very exciting and full of action.

Der Charity Gala-Abend ganz nach dem Motto "Feiern und Fördern" Festliches Ambiente mit Kerzenschein im Skaters Palace, bestens gelaunte Gäste, dazu bewegende Erfolgsgeschichten aus den skate-aid Projekten und Unterhaltung der Spitzenklasse: auch die 13. Auflage der „C&A skate-aid-night supported by innogy“ war ein voller Erfolg. Nicht ohne Grund waren auch in diesem Jahr wieder alle Karten binnen kürzester Zeit ausverkauft und viele Prominente der Einladung von Titus Dittmann in den Skaters Palace gefolgt, darunter Schauspieler Wotan Wilke Möhring, Comedian Simon Gosejohann, Torsten „Toto“

Heim, Kultregisseur Peter Thorwarth und die Künstler Otmar Alt und Dennis Klapschus aka „Deklart“. André Gatzke führte zur Begeisterung der Gäste bereits zum 5. Mal wortgewandt, spontan und mit dem nötigen Esprit souverän durch den Abend. Die Bundesministerin für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft Julia Klöckner sandte per Videobotschaft herzliche Grüße nach Münster und rief die Gäste auf, die gute Sache von skate-aid kräftig zu unterstützen, ebenso wie Cem Özdemir, Mitglied des Bundestages (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Frank Thelen und Skateboard-Legende Christian Hosoi.

Großen Beifall erhielt das Vorhaben, im kommenden Jahr zusammen mit SOSKinderdorf einen Skatepark im syrischen Damaskus zu bauen, um die vom Bürgerkrieg traumatisierten Kinder wieder stark zu machen. Promi-Supporter Wotan Wilke Möhring ließ es sich als „Projektpate“ bei dieser Gelegenheit nicht nehmen, höchstpersönlich auf die Bühne zu kommen und um Spenden zu bitten. Er wird Mitte des Jahre persönlich in Damaskus mit vor Ort sein. Am Ende des Abends durfte sich skate-aid mit 65.000,- Euro Spenden über ein fantastisches Ergebnis freuen. Bei all dem Fördern der guten Sache kam aber selbstredend auch das Feiern nicht zu kurz. Mit einer atemberaubenden Vertical Pole-Darbietung begeisterte das Duo Sienna aus dem GOP-Varieté Münster das Publikum.

Für die musikalische Unterhaltung sorgten fetzige Rhythmen von Percussion-Artist Hakim Ludin und soulige Klänge von Nasila & Band. Kulinarisch verwöhnt wurden die Gäste von den Maîtres aus dem Hause Böinghoff an einem Buffet der Spitzenklasse. Um Mitternacht war es dann Zeit für das große, traditionelle Finale. Als alle Gäste in den Klassiker „With a little Help from my Friends” mit einstimmten, kam noch einmal GänsehautFeeling auf. „So viele brennende Herzen“, meinte dann auch skate-aid Gründer Titus Dittmann ganz gerührt. Vielen Dank an alle Gäste, Sponsoren, Künstler, helfende Hände und alle, die diesen großartigen Abend möglich gemacht haben! Wir sehen uns am 23. C&A skate-aid-night supported by innogy A lot of celebrities walked down the red carpet on December 2nd at the Skaters Palace in Münster/Germany. The occasion was the 13th C&A skate-aid-night supported by innogy. In-between skateboard ramps and graffiti, crystal glass and candle light, the motto of the legendary charity event was traditionally “celebrating and encouraging”. 300 guests and numerous celebrities, like actor Wotan Wilke Möring and comedian Simon Gosejohann, followed the invitation of host Titus Dittmann and celebrated in this unique location. Among others, even skateboard legend Christian Hosoi sent a video message from California. At the end of the night about 65.000€ were collected for skate-aid projects. Thanks to all participants and everyone who was involved…see you on November 23 at the skate-aidnight 2019!

Nachdem wir unter dem Motto „ADHS! Na und?“ im letzten Jahr unsere Studie zusammen mit dem Institut für Sportwissenschaft der WWU Münster und der Klinik für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie der UKM begonnen haben, ging es Anfang des Jahres in die zweite Phase. Durch zwei dreimonatige, angeleitete Skateboard-Workshops (1,5 Stunden/pro Woche), wollen wir nachweisen, wie die Motorik, die kognitiven Fähigkeiten und das psychische Befinden von Kindern (im Alter von 10 bis 14 Jahren) mit ADHS durch das Skateboarden positiv beeinflusst werden kann, bzw. dass das Skateboarden durchaus in der Lage ist, ADHSSymptome zu lindern und manchmal sogar Ritalin zu ersetzen. Den Kids wurden im Kurs die grundlegenden Fertigkeiten des Skateboardens gezeigt, die sie dann selbstbestimmt weiter üben konnten. Vor und nach Kurs werden ihr Bewegungsverhalten sowie mögliche Veränderungen in ihrem psychischen Befinden erfasst. Dazu werden u.a. Fragebögen, ausgewählte Verfahren der Bewegungsanalyse und Konzentrationsaufgaben verwendet. Die Kids bekamen wieder jeweils die komplette Ausrüstung bestehend aus Skateboard, Helm & Schonern gestellt, so dass sie auch außerhalb der Kurse weiterhin die Möglichkeit haben zu skaten. Nach der Durchführung der beiden Kurse werden die Daten der Studie durch das Team um Prof. Dr. Patricia Ohrmann, Prof. Dr. Heiko Wagner und Dr. Christiane Bohn ausgewertet. Nach dem Abschluss diese speziellen Workshops ist ein Übergang in unsere anderen regelmäßig stattfindenden SkateboardWorkshops möglich. Die „Skaten statt Ritalin“ Workshops werden unterstützt durch Takko Hilft e.V.

Rather skating than Ritalin „ADHD! So what?” Under this motto we started our last year’s study in cooperation with the Institute of Sports Science of the University of Münster and the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the UKM. The second phase started earlier this year. By two three-month guided skateboard workshops (1.5 hours / week), we wanted to demonstrate how motoric abilities, cognitive skills and the psychological state of children with ADHS (aged 10 to 14 years) could be positively affected through skateboarding and that skateboarding is quite capable of relieving ADHD symptoms and sometimes even replacing Ritalin. The kids were shown the basic skills of skateboarding in the course, which they then could continue to practice on their own. Before and after the course, their physical activities as well as possible changes in their mental condition were recorded. These were, among others, questionnaires, selected methods of motion analysis and concentration tasks used. The kids were given the complete equipment including skateboard, helmet and safety gear so they can still skate outside of the course. After the completion of the two courses, the data of the study will now be evaluated by the team headed by Prof. Dr. med. Patricia Ohrmann, Prof. Dr. Heiko Wagner and Dr. by Christiane Bohn. After completing this special workshop a transition to our other regular skateboard workshops is possible. The “Rather skating than Ritalin” workshops are supported by Takko Hilft e.V.

S ACROS S R E D R ) (A O B E H T Die Flüchtlingssituation und die damit einhergehende Frage nach Hilfe sind aktueller denn je. skate-aid ist bereits seit Jahren mit vollem Engagement dabei, für Flüchtlinge in Deutschland die Hoffnung mit der Kraft des Skateboards ins Rollen zu bringen. Unsere SkateboardWorkshops ebnen dabei den Weg zu Integration, Persönlichkeitsbildung und Sprachvermittlung. Seit 2016 bieten wir im Skaters Palace in Münster durchgängig die Across the Bo(a)rders Reihe an. Ziel der

Workshops ist es, Jugendlichen mit Migrationshintergrund eine sinnvolle Nachmittagsbeschäftigung zu bieten und ihnen nebenbei die Integration in den Alltag zu erleichtern. Das Programm wird 2019 wieder auf 2x die Woche ausgeweitet und für jedermann geöffnet. Insgesamt können so bis zu 40 Kids pro Woche an den Skateboard-Workshops teilnehmen. Skate and Integrate – that´s how it works!
ACROSS THE BO(A)RDERS The situation of the refugees and, as a consequence thereof, the question for help is currently present more than ever. For years and with total commitment, skate-aid is already at it to keep the hope of refugees in Germany rolling through the power of skateboarding. Our skateboard workshops pave the way to integration, personality development and language education, Since 2016, we have been consistently offering the Across the Bo(a)rders series at the Skaters Palace in MĂźnster. The goal of the workshops is to provide young people with a migration background with a meaningful afternoon activity and to facilitate their integration into the everyday life. The program will be expanded to twice a week in 2019 and opened to everyone. In total, 40 kids per week can participate in the skate workshops. Skate And Integrate - that's how it works!

Es ist mir extrem wichtig und zugleich eine Freude, etwas Gutes zu tun, weil es so einfach ist. Ich denke da ähnlich wie Verona Pooth „Nimm dir alles, aber gib viel“ Woher nimmst du die Ideen für deine Werke? Die Ideen für meine Werke entnehme ich einfach meiner Lebensgeschichte und natürlich inspirieren mich meine Kids und meine Frau sehr ... ich bin ein sehr positiv eingestellter Mensch und das versuche ich durch meine Kunst auf die Leute zu übertragen.
Moin Dennis, wie bist du auf skate-aid aufmerksam geworden? Ich habe immer von den Projekten gelesen und war begeistert. Dann hat mich ein gemeinsamer Bekannter zur skate-aid-night mitgenommen. ...wo eins deiner Kunstwerke dann für 8000,Euro zugunsten von skate-aid auf der Bühne versteigert wurde. Dickes THX nochmal dafür! Wie wichtig ist es dir, dich sozial zu engagieren? 36 I skate-aid-Mag
Ein großer Bestandteil deiner Kunst sind Comicfiguren. Wenn du selbst für einen Tag in die Haut einer dieser Charaktere schlüpfen könntest. Wen würdest du wählen und warum? Ich kann mich nicht entscheiden zwischen Dagobert Duck und Bugs Bunny. Dagobert erinnert mich immer an meinen Opa. Sehr sparsam und bunkert die ganze Kohle im Gegensatz zu mir. Aber er ist auch ein Symbol für Erfolg und deshalb identifiziere ich mich
mit ihm. Bugs Bunny ist so der Charakter, der nicht aufgibt, immer positiv und gutgläubig ist. Eigentlich genau wie ich ... positiv naiv und immer nach dem Motto „einfach mal machen“. Das gefällt mir und so gehe ich meine Projekte auch an. Was steht bei dir als nächstes an? Ich würde zum Beispiel gerne ein deklart Artcar mit einem starken Partner designen (Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini...) und für Showzwecke benutzen, aber auch zum Verkauf anbieten. Mein Kopf ist voll... dieses Jahr wird alles toppen! Abschließend noch die Frage, ob wir uns im November auf der nächsten skate-aid night sehen? Wenn wir wieder eingeladen werden, kommen wir sehr gerne….und ich bin auch gerne wieder mit einem Skateboard-Deck dabei! Danke für deinen Support und die Einladung steht natürlich.

Moin Dennis, how did you find out about skate-aid? I have always read about the projects and loved it and then a mutual friend brought me to the skate-aidnight. ...where one of your artworks was auctioned on stage for 8000, - Euro in favor of skate-aid. A big thanx again. How important is social commitment for you? It is extremely important to me and at the same time a pleasure to do something good because it is so easy. I think similar to Verona Pooth "Take everything but give a lot" Where do you get the ideas for your creations? The ideas for my creations is simply my life story and of course my kids and my wife are very inspiring ... I’m a very positive person and I try to transfer this to the people through my art. A big part of your art are cartoon characters. If you could slip into the skin of one of these characters for a day…who would you choose and why? I can’t decide between Uncle Scrooge and Bugs Bunny.
Uncle Scrooge reminds me of my grandfather. Very economical and stashing all the money...not like me! But he’s also a symbol of success and that is why I identify with him. Bugs Bunny is a character that does not give up, is always positive and in good faith. Actually, just like me ... positively naive and always following the motto "just do it". I like that and that's how I approach my projects. What is next for you? For example, I would like to design a declart Artcar with a strong partner like Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini and use it for show purposes, but also offer it for sale. My head is full ... this year will top everything! The final question is…do we see you again at the next skate-aid-night in November? If we are invited again, we would like to come ... and it will be a pleasure for me to be back with a skateboard deck! Thanks for your support, Dennis… and the invitation still stands of course!

Wir haben es 2004 dann als "Uganda Skateboard Union" registriert und ich versuche es weiterhin immer voranzutreiben. Die „USU“ war das erste Skateboard-Projekt in Ostafrika. skate-aid hat uns seit 2010 durch all diese Jahre hindurch unterstützt und 2018 konnten wir mit ihrer Hilfe einen Ausbau des Skateparks abschließen. In Zusammenarbeit mit Taiyo haben sie auch zwei Taiyo Solar Flutlichter im Park installiert! Mein Alltag ist es, mich um den Park zu kümmern, die Kids und Jugendlichen zum Skateboarden und zur "USU" einzuladen, damit sie kriminellen Aktivitäten in unserer Kitintale-Community fern bleiben, Besucher begrüßen, die mehr über die „USU“ und die weltweiten skate-aid Projekte erfahren möchten… und noch vieles mehr…

I have been working with this social skateboarding project since the beginning of the construction of the skate park in 2003. We registered it as the “Uganda Skateboard Union” in 2004 and I am still trying to push this project further. The “USU” was the first skateboarding project in East Africa. skate-aid supports us since 2010 through all these years and in 2018 we could finish the construction of the expansion of the skate park with their help. In cooperation with Taiyo Hive they’ve also installed two Taiyo solarfloodlights at the park! My everyday life is to take care of the park, encourage youth to join skateboarding and the “USU”, so they stay away from criminal activities in our Kitintale community, welcoming visitors, who want to know more about the USU and skate-aid projects all over the world…and much more…
Douglas Mwesigwa skate-aid Freiwilliger der ersten Stunde und Mitglied der „ USU“ skate-aid volunteer since the beginning and member of the “USU” Ich fahre jetzt seit 14 Jahren Skateboard und bin von Anfang an bei der „USU“ mit dabei. Ich war der erste skate-aid Volunteer und SkateboardCoach in Dodoma /Tansania und 2012 haben sie mich zu einer Fortbildung nach Münster eingeladen. Für mich bedeutet Skateboarden Freiheit! Skateboarding hat mir schon so viel gegeben… neue Freunde, Abenteuer, Contests, Reisen, um mehr über andere Menschen und Kulturen zu erfahren und vieles mehr. I have been skating for 14 years now and I have been with the USU from the beginning on. I was the first skate-aid volunteer and skateboarding coach in Dodoma/Tanzania and in 2012 they’ve invited me to Germany for further education. To me skateboarding is freedom! Skateboarding gave me so much…like new friends, adventures, contests, travelling to other countries to learn more about other people and cultures and much more.

Uganda Skateboard Union Die „USU“ und skate-aid hatten und haben großen Einfluss auf die Jugend der Kitintale-Community. Seit dem Start der „USU“ im Jahr 2004 hat sich vieles geändert! Zum Beispiel wächst unser Skatepark stetig und wir können jetzt sogar nachts skaten! Es ist der einzige Skatepark mit Solarlichtsystem in Ostafrika. skate-aid unterstützt uns auch regelmäßig mit Skateboard-Ausrüstung für die Kids wie Boards, Safety Gear, Schuhen und Kleidung. Für die Zukunft erwarten wir ostafrikanische Skateboard-Wettbewerbe, vielleicht eine nochmalige Erweiterung des Skateparks und möglicherweise sogar die Teilnahme eines Uganda-Skateboard-Teams an den Olympischen Spielen 2020 in Japan!
The USU and skate-aid had and have a great influence on the youth of the Kitintale community. Since USU started in 2004, a lot of things changed! For example our skate park is expanding and we are now able to skate at night. It’s the only skate park with a solar light system in East Africa. skate-aid supports us on a regular basis with skateboarding equipment like boards, safety gear, shoes and clothing for the kids. For the future we expect East African skateboard contests, another expansion of the skate park to be able to empower even more children and maybe even the participation of a Uganda skateboard team at the Olympics 2020 in Japan! 40 I skate-aid-Mag

Nachdem wir uns im letzten Jahr vor Ort von der Notwendigkeit überzeugen konnten, dass die Kids der SOS Kinderdörfer Syrien und in Damskus allgemein zum einen eine weitere Möglichkeit zur TraumaBewältigung gut gebrauchen können und auch ohne Berührungsängste direkt unsere mitgebrachten Boards ausprobiert haben, ging es direkt mit Vollgas weiter. Zusammen mit den SOS Kinderdörfern weltweit konnten wir im Rahmen einer Crowdfunding-Kampagne den unglaublichen Betrag von 85.000 € sammeln um dort im März den ersten Skatepark in Syrien zu realisieren. Seit Mitte März wird jetzt gebaut und die Fortschritte sind wirklich unglaublich. Zum offiziellen Eröffnungs-Termin im Juli hat sich auch unser Supporter Wotan Wilke Möring in Damaskus angekündigt. Unser Bau-Team, das schon in Namibia unsere Vision hat wahr werden lassen, ist voll motiviert sich für die Kids vor Ort zu engagieren. Kurzum – wir machen Kinder stark!
skate-aid X SOS Children’s Villages After our visit in Syria last year we were convinced that the kids from the SOS Children’s Villages and Damascus in general Damascus need a possibility to overcome their traumas. They had no fear at all to try out the boards which we brought with us either, so we put the pedal to the metal. Together with the SOS Children‘s Villages worldwide, we were able to collect the incredible amount of 85,000 € as part of a crowdfunding campaign to build the first skate park in Syria. Since March the park is in the making and the progress is unbelievable. The grand opening will be in July and German actor and skate-aid supporter Wotan Wilke Möring has announced his appearance at the ceremonies. Our construction team, which has already made our vision come true in Namibia, is fully motivated to commit itself to the local kids. In short – we empower kids!
