One of our core values is efficiency. Our primary goal is to maximise efficiency, with a strong focus on utilising the latest technology within all parts of our systems.
An optimised propeller design is a critical factor for the overall solution efficiency. We can deliver highly efficient designs based on the most advanced computer tools, high knowledge of hydrodynamics, and a fundamental understanding of the vessel operational profiles.
We use 3D and 2D CAD and CFD tools to design and model our propellers - combined with advanced programs for analysing strength and hydrodynamics. Three-dimensional and dynamic analysis methods facilitate the propeller design process and ensure the highest level of efficiency and functionality for our propellers.
Through partnerships and being one of the industry’s strongest and technically advanced gearbox makers, we can select the most suitable gearbox based on vessel requirements. Over the years, this flexibility has proven to add value to our propulsion solutions.

- 3H - Suitable for smaller-sized displacement vessels such as fishery boats, workboats, and tugs.
- 4H - Ideal for small to medium displacement and high-speed vessels like SAR, workboats, Patrol crafts, CTVs (Crew Transfer Vessels), and fast ferries.
- 4T & 4TX - Recommended for medium to large-sized displacement and high-speed vessels, including fishing vessels, coastal liners, fast ferries, yachts, and offshore crafts.
We also offer the 4SX type specially designed for large-sized displacement vessels like fishing vessels, general cargo ships, ferries, and offshore vessels. Additionally, we provide a Manually Adjustable Pitch Propeller (APP) option for our 3H, 4H and 4T propellers. The APP is operated like a Fixed Pitch Propeller (FPP) in combination with a reversing gearbox. It can be manually adjusted to fine-tune performance according to operational conditions.

Kumera Marine was established in 2018, the result of the merger between former Kumera AS and Helseth AS. The company’s production and engineering facilities are located in Sandefjord, for the marine gearboxes and in Molde for the propeller solutions. As a subsidiary of Kumera OY, an international gearbox manufacturer headquartered in Riihimäki, Finland, the company has production plants and operations worldwide in countries like Germany, Austria, Norway, Finland, and China.
Kumera Marine prides itself on its history of over 50 years of designing and producing marine gearboxes and propellers for the maritime industry. The company’s core business specialisation includes gears and controllable pitch propellers (CPP) and manually adjustable pitch propellers (APP), with its range of CPP propellers reaching up to 4500 mm propeller diameter.
The blend of two companies’ specialties capitalized on Kumera Marine’s ability to design and develop highly competitive high-quality gearboxes and propulsion solutions explicitly suited to a broad range of vessel types. With Kumera OY’s solid industrial presence, Kumera Marine AS efficiently invests in new development projects targeted towards achieving future growth.
The Kumera Group produces over 3000 Gearboxes annually, with 10% of the total output being Marine Gearboxes. As such, being owned by Kumera OY uniquely positions Kumera Marine to deliver standardised and tailor-made solutions based on market requirements.
