Students usedAdobe Express to design creative business cards expressing their career goals.
Students experienced the digital fabrication process, from designing 3D objects to scanning 3D figures to be printed. Students received models of themselves through the MLK prototyping lab.
Students received a tour of the SJSU Wellness Center and learned about the resources available to all SJSU students. They practiced making healthy decisions by building a balanced plate and focused on the connection between nutrition and academic success.
Students learned about social justice work and its relevance to their areas of interest and other majors. They researched specific grand challenges such as homelessness, violence, and environmental decline. Students engaged in meaningful discussions about bringing change to social injustices.
Students explored their interests to find applicable majors and careers and completed a Career DiscoveryAssessment. They learned how to take advantage of connections, exercise a growth mindset, use LinkedIn, developed a career plan, and more
Students visited the SJSU Preschool Lab and observed the preschoolers in an educational environment. They identified different challenges in the classroom and acted out solutions to address them.
MESApresented about their program’s goals for equitable student success in STEM.
Students received a tour of the Engineering building where they learned about different engineering programs at SJSU includingAerospace Engineering (rockets, drones) and Chemical Engineering (wafer manufacturing).
Students received a tour of the Clinical Simulation Center where nursing students simulate real life hospital scenarios. They simulated working in a professional hospital environment. They practiced bedside manner, listened to each others breathing, took temperatures, and lifted medical beds. Students also learned about other medical and caretaking professions besides Nursing, which is currently a very impacted major and profession.
American Red Cross certified instructors taught students how to perform life saving actions from the heimlich maneuver and patching blood wounds to contacting 911.
Students completed trainings and received certification to performAdult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED.
Through the Communicative Disorders and Sciences department at SJSU, students engaged in a deep-dive intoAudiology and Speech Language Pathology.
Students participated in hearing screenings and a hearing loss simulation.They tested swallowing and eating which is essential to diagnosing communicative disorders.
Students usedAugmentative andAlternative Communication (AAC) tablets to experience one way individuals with speech impediments communicate.
