CEO FOREWORD

Welcome to the first edition of the Saint John Southworth Catholic Academy Trust’s termly review. Throughout the pages of this review, we will look back at all of the fantastic opportunities available to our pupils across the Trust

The Trust’s motto (Omnia in Uno – Everything in One) captures its foundational essence and institutional mission: just as we are all one in God, so we set out jointly to create a community of schools to give our pupils all they need to grow Through this review, we aim to demonstrate how we truly do give our pupils everything and more.

Before we move on, I would like to very warmly welcome Our Lady of Victories Catholic Primary School to the Trust The school, led by Executive Head Karen Wyatt, is a valued addition to our ever growing network of schools offering an excellent Catholic education

On the note of excellent Catholic education, St Thomas More Language College, who joined the Trust in September 2024, have just achieved an outstanding Section 48 report, which is a well-deserved result of excellent Catholic teaching, dedicated teaching and support staff, and an encouraging environment I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr Trevor Papworth, Headteacher, Fr Antony, Assistant Head, and the entire community at St Thomas More Language College on this report

The Spring Term has been a fantastic example of everything that we do to enrich the educational

experience of our pupils in the schools across the Trust. This is only thanks to the support from our community and this act of giving helps to bind our community more tightly together

Three primary schools across the Trust held Giving Days this term A Giving Day is a 36-hour fundraising marathon aimed at raising funds through sponsored pupil challenges The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School was the first state secondary school to adopt this method of fundraising in 2022, and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Chelsea was the first primary to do so in 2023 This academic year, four schools have raised a collective £150,000 in Giving Days! In 144 hours. This is simply remarkable, a tangible manifestation of community support

These funds allow us to bridge the gap between government state funding and the enhanced provision we provide within the Saint John Southworth Catholic Academy Trust Thank you for sharing our mission and allowing us to offer the best opportunities for our pupils

MESSAGE FROM THE LAY CHAPLAIN

What is the link between

a young Vaughanian humming the hymn sung during morning assembly on his way home,

And a group of St Thomas More pupils singing their school hymn in unity at the end of Mass?

... a class from St Joseph’s Maida Vale enjoying the sunshine, gazing in wonder at the plants and birds along the Little Venice canal,

And a group of parents following the Headteacher of St Joseph’s Chelsea on a pilgrimage through places rich in meaning and history, under a radiant sky?

a group of Headteachers starting their meeting with a prayer,

And parents and governors who gather each month to pray for the SJSCAT, its pupils, staff, and families?

the chocolate-stained hands of some St John XXIII pupils completing a challenge to raise funds for their school,

And a St Joseph’s Maida Vale child arriving at school, with arms full of shampoo and toothpaste, to help the homeless supported by The Passage charity?

Music, the beauty of Creation, prayer, the Common Good, the Care for the Poor

All this is good Very good Yet there is even more: there is a personal relationship and a heart that beats The heart of Christ And we are His Body

There is such beauty in our motto, Omnia in Uno a depth that invites us to glimpse its height and breadth through prayer.

"that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God," says Saint Paul to the Ephesian Church (3: 17-19)

Our community stands under the patronage of Saint John Southworth, one of the Tyburn Martyrs. Even today, in the silence of Tyburn Convent, the nuns adore the Blessed Sacrament night and day, feeling the pulse of the world in the rumble of the Underground below They breathe life into the world, praying that the sacrifice of Saint John Southworth and his fellow martyrs may bear fruit in our lives today.

Saint John Southworth had this Catholic Hope, trusting above all things, even beyond martyrdom and death, that God does not disappoint In this year of grace, this year of Jubilee, let’s remember that, even in challenging times, God is faithful and active This is true Hope

Then we can be His Body I will soon have the chance to stand on the summits of the Alps There, I will pray for each of you before the magnificence of God, radiant in the purity of the landscape Like those roped climbers, let us strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that unite our communities For just as when we are roped together, it is no longer each person for themselves; rather, with the help of the Holy Spirit, the strength of some supports the weakness of others, and the pace of our steps adjusts to the needs of the group so that together, each one may contemplate the beauty of the landscape

Let us pray: May we be Pilgrims of Hope, walking with the dignity of the children of God, serving Christ and His Church with perseverance And may every aspect of this termly review reveal the Beauty of the One who has delivered us from sin, Christ our Saviour who desires so ardently to take us to contemplate His Glory.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, beating at the centre of our Academy trust, have mercy on us

Saint John Southworth, pray for us
