St John XXIII Catholic Primary School is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ two-form entry primary school with a Nursery attached.
Our school is a wonderful family community, where our children are supported and encouraged by our parents, staff and governors. Each child's talents are nurtured and developed throughout their years with us, enabling them to reach their full potential.
We are aspirational for our children and want to ensure we are preparing them, alongside our parents, to be ready for future success. Children have excellent opportunities to participate in Spanish, French, Music, Dance, Drama, Sports, Gardening and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). We further enrich the curriculum with experience days, visits, workshops and residentials to fully immerse children in our curriculum.
Our high expectations and high standards are combined with a sense of creativity, excellence and enjoyment, firmly underpinned by our belief in the Gospel Values of Jesus Christ existing at the centre of all that we do.
Schools have seen an increasing gap between the government funding they receive, and what it costs to run them.
Why the increasing gap?
There has been an over 16% reduction in real-terms funding since 2010. Reasons for this include decreases in government funding, reallocation of funds away from city schools, alterations to Nursery funding and rising staff costs year-on year as we successfully retain our strong staff.
Costs at St John XXIII's have increased. There are three key reasons are:
During a recruitment crisis in teaching, we are successfully retaining exceptional staff. Staff costs make up an increasing proportion of our budget.
Running costs such as heating and electricity have risen.
Our extensive extra-curricular provision.
We are seeking to increase our donations to allow us to make these additional provisions each year. The Board of Governors and Headteacher will decide where these funds are best invested, for the sole benefit our pupils. This could range from classroom resources to improvements to our school environment.
We realise times are challenging for many families, and that it may not be possible for everyone in our community to contribute.
If you are able to, we would encourage you to consider making a gift at a level that is right for you and your family, taking your existing commitments into account. Your gifts, combined with those of other parents and members of our community, will enable us to maintain the exceptional standard of education offered to those who attend the St John XXIII, both now and in the future.
If you are a UK taxpayer please remember to tick the Gift Aid box on our pledge form and add 25% to the value of your gift– at no extra cost to you. This will also enable you to claim tax relief in your Self-Assessment tax return if you are a higher-rate taxpayer.
