June is the official month for summer with so many things happening in our community. Whether you are coming to SoJo Summerfest, getting your walk in, or going to an outdoor luau dance party, remember that according to the Centers for Disease Control, if you are over 65 then you are more prone to heat problems. Stay cool by wearing loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and drink plenty of water. If your living space is hot, then come enjoy the centers air conditioning and have lunch, play mahjong, canasta, or pool, and then attend the oil painting class and gentle stretch and meditation! SoJo Fire Department will be here on the 18 with some great tips on how to avoid injury but also what to do if you do get injured So this month as we celebrate Dads, Pride, and Juneteenth remember your water bottle, and maybe run through the sprinklers at the splash pad on your way into the center th

I was raised in Orem Utah a long time ago They used to say that Orem is a pretty little place From the time I can remember I wanted to be a mommy, a nurse and a dancer. I think most us girls wanted to be a mommy. I have six kiddos – 3 boys and 3 girls, 20 grands and 2 great grandchildren. I’m so proud of each one of them and their accomplishment’s We spent most of our vacations at Disneyland and Lake Powell I’m not really good at lot of things but I was the best boat driver They called me Captain Ron!
I fell in love with nursing when I got the Little Golden Book “Nurse Nancy”. Nurse Nancy inspired me to become a nurse. She had brown hair with chopped off bangs just the way my mom styled my hair I became a nurse when I was 18 and practiced until my health became a problem I loved being a nurse I loved interacting with patients and tried to make a difference in their lives. My motto was to treat your patients as you would “your own mother”. Two of my daughters followed in my footsteps and became nurses. I ended up with an MBA in Health Administration When I was 9, I took dance from a lady in the neighborhood She took my dance class of 15 little girls to try out for the Eugene Jelesnik Talent Showcase in SLC. We competed against winners from the weekly talent shows. We won the prize to be on Ted Mack Amateur Hour. My dance teacher took us all to NYC to be on Ted Mack. We performed at the NY World’s fair and even had lunch in the capital with the Speaker of the House. A prominent businessman named us The Utah Rockettes The next year 3 of us split off from the Rockettes and won again to be on TED Mack This year we were in California I continued to compete in gymnastic meets at school until I was a senior in HS In my 20’s I started golfing. I played with the “Ladies Day” and participated in team play. I had 2 holes in one and I realized getting a hole in one has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with luck.
I moved to SoJo last September. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know some the most amazing peopled I have ever known I mostly love my life today and hope to have more wonderful adventures with my new friends
