While at Clemson University, I studied psychology with the intent of going to medical school, as required by my parents. Nearing the end of my Psychology program, I was unsure what my true calling was, so I decided to finish my degree, get certified in AutoCAD, and try my hand at design. Post-graduation, I worked as a design assistant at a boutique landscape design firm in Greenville, SC, and this opened my eyes to an entirely new profession I was unaware of: Landscape Architecture. After several years of planning, an ongoing pandemic, and trying other career paths, I applied for and got accepted to the University of Maryland’s Masters of Landscape Architecture program. Now in my third and final year, I still boast a near 4.0 GPA and a passion for environmental protection and sustainability. With a strong background in residential design, I am curious how we can bridge the gap between private and public spaces and encourage homeowners to think of the long-lasting effects of their gardens. In my free time, you can find me hiking, exploring new places, reading, watercolor painting, and playing Fallout 76. While born and raised in the Carolinas, Maryland has started to feel like home in many ways.

AT THE DEALE COMMUNITY LIBRARY
My thesis project centers on providing a rural library in Deale, MD with an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly design that connects the library to the Community Park. I aim to bolster this library’s resources by providing a one beyond its’ walls.

Demonstrate sustainable and aesthetically pleasing native gardens to inspire residents to implement in their own yards.
Foster community engagement by encouraging stewardship in their community and in their properties. Teach environmental stewardship through experiential learning, signage, and workshops.


CRITICAL AREA DESIGNATIONS (LDA/IDA) AND WETLAND BUFFER
This project involved deep site inventory as the Deale Community Library is located in the Critical Area. Research was required on stormwater management practices and soil conditions. With these constraints in mind, I designed three concepts to show to the client and my committee. Eeach party preferred the Woodland Walk concept, and I took some elements from the Forested Fundamentals and Nature Nexus concept to develop my site plan.

Since my design focused on plantings and native gardens, plant palettes were a vital design element I accounted for. I focused on nine zones as well as shade and understory tree options. This is only a snippet of the plant palettes to help tell the story of this design.















This project was during my internship at Groundsmith Collective where I got the opportunity to design, sell, and install a planting plan in Silver Spring, MD. This project included providing concept design options and a final planting plan and schedule for install. Client preferred using native plants and desired to keep the existing mature trees on site. Year-round seasonal interest and deer resistant plantings were a top priority. This plan was partially installed.

The Druid Heights Community Development Corporation, a local nonprofit in the Druid Heights neighborhood of Baltimore, MD, sought to revitalize this space by incorporating more nature play activities for their after-school program.

I developed a planting plan that met the 3’ height maximum to prevent obstructed site lines.

This project was based on community engagement with local community members in Washington Grove, right outside of Gaithersburg, MD. Southlake Elementary is currently a holding school, but it was historically a staple to community events. Community members wanted to reintroduce connection to this site through the existing park and cemetery located on the west side.


Connections Through Moving:
Bring community members into this historical spot by extending the walking path into the school
Connections Through Learning: Encourage education for both students and community members through multipurpose spaces
Connections through Gathering: Incorporate multiple spaces of different sizes to accommodate events of all different sizes

Through site analysis and design exploration, my original design focused on sensible path networks and curvilinear shapes to connect the community to the site.



My site plan evolved further into a circular shape in the back that could be flexible for both school and community events.
Section A-A’ depicts the grading changes between the walking trail, community garden plots, and dry well with plantings.





















































This project was during my internship at Homestead Gardens where I got the opportunity to design and install this garden in Edgewater, MD. This project included reworking an existing area of the side driveway at the client’s full-time residence. Year-round seasonal interest was a top priority.
