SIZEWELL C UPDATE
Preparation for the Friday Street Roundabout is ongoing. A works compound has been established and the vegetation and tree clearance along the A12 is almost complete. Site preparation along the route of the two village bypass around Farnham and Stratford St Andrew is also ongoing, and Yoxford Roundabout is being prepared for construction.
Planned Openreach works for diverting cables along the B1122 will require two-way traffic signals to manage traffic flow. Work will take place between the end of May and 2 June.
A works compound has been established at the Western end of the Sizewell Link Road beside the A12. Preparation work on our two park and ride sites continues, with construction due to begin this summer. We will be installing average speed cameras along the B1122, between Yoxford and Leiston, and the B1125 from Westleston, from the end of May. The speed limit along the B1122 is 30mph and is fully enforceable.
Railway track improvements along the Leiston branch line continue. The first freight trains are set to arrive at site this summer. These trains are for the construction works and have already started. Site deliveries for works not associated with construction of the rail project will commence Q1-26.
We are aware that the Dunwich Dynamo takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July. The closure of Willow Marsh Lane will require cyclists to take the official diversion which is in place. We will actively communicate this diversion on social media. GPS maps have been updated and will enable riders to follow the designated route..
The Sizewell C team will be at the Suffolk Show on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 May. We are located at 219 Flower Show Avenue. You’ll be able to talk to the team about current works, speak to our archaeologists about what they’ve found, and you can learn more about our construction project in virtual reality. ANCILLARY CONSTRUCTION AREA (ACA)
Work continues in and around the main site. Earthworks are currently taking place on the Ancillary Construction Area on the outskirts of Leiston, and we are building roads around the site. The bus services are also up and running.
The first trains carrying ballast for the rail heads on the Ancillary Construction Area have arrived, with construction starting later this year.

TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION AREA (TCA)
On the Temporary Construction Area we are continuing with earthworks and preparations for the construction of the SSSI bridge, which includes the installation of sheet piles to protect the environment. We’ve installed acoustic fencing around protected woodlands on the Temporary Construction Area. The fencing will mitigate noise while helping to support wildlife. For example, it’s been designed to accommodate bat migration.

WORKS IN AND AROUND LEISTON
The site of the plaza roundabout, which will connect the main entrance of Sizewell C with the B1122 Abbey Road and Eastbridge Road, is being prepared for construction. Work includes site establishment, root removal from previous cut vegetation and utility diversionary works.
In June, we will start work on the new Lover’s Lane and Abbey Road junction, which enables the subsequent construction of a level crossing for the Green Rail Route.
The roundabout will be completed in early 2026.
Community Road Improvements
We are installing average speed cameras along the B1122 and B1125 to further enhance road safety in the new 30mph speed limit.
We are upgrading the temporary Sizewell C A-frame signs across the county along the A14, A12 and local roads to be permanent signs mounted on posts. An existing layby on the northbound carriageway of the A12, near the B1078, will be upgraded to accommodate Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AIL). This is to enable us to manage our wider load HGV
movements that are escorted by the police to and from site.
In Autumn 2026 we will start road improvements along the B1122 and B1078, along with the B1078/A140 and B1119/A12 junctions. Further details and updates will be given to communities as the works programmes are finalised.

TEMPORARY SEA DEFENCE
Construction of the northern section of the temporary sea defence will begin at the end of May. Sheet piles will be installed over the next few months. The public footpath will remain open throughout. We apologise for any noise disturbance.
SIZEWELL BEACH
Two small storage compounds have been set up on the shoreline of Sizewell beach. These areas have been fenced off and will not affect the public footpath. These will be used for temporary marine outfall install.

STATUTORY HARBOUR AREA
We have submitted planning permission to replace the beach sign with important information about our marine activities -as well as content contained in the existing sign. The new sign will show how these activities will be managed under our Statutory Harbour obligations.

NORTHERN PARK & RIDE
(DARSHAM)
Works on the Northern Park and Ride in Darsham continue. The first stage of construction will be to build the roundabout that will link the park and ride to the A12. From May we will be installing welfare cabins, and diverting utilities along the A12. This work will require a temporary speed reduction along the A12 to 30mph, and some traffic light management will be required. A 30mph speed limit will be introduced along the A12 north of the Darsham station level crossing to ensure road safety whilst HGV movements are made during the construction of the Park and Ride roundabout.

Our archaeologists continue their work on the Southern Park and Ride which is expected to conclude this summer. As archaeology is completed, areas will start building work from the summer. There are on-going works to realign BT Openreach network wires along the slip road, which are expected to run to the end of May.

ORWELL LOGISTICS

The Freight Management Facility at Orwell Logistics Park is now operational. The facility is a vital part of how we manage our lorries and goods travelling to Sizewell. The Freight Management Facility will be for HGVs to check-in and be security checked before going to site.
Orwell Logistics Park also has office space for the project. This helps to distribute our workforce across the region, therefore reducing the number of workers in Leiston. The first team of workers that had been based in Leiston have now started at the site.

We have now created all the required accesses at the sites to build the Sizewell Link Road, while archaeology and vegetation clearance works continue . Main construction works will commence in phases as archaeology progresses throughout the site.
A 30mph speed limit has been implemented along the A12 between Yoxford and Saxmundham. This limit is to ensure road safety as HGVs will be turning onto site at the SLR and at the Yoxford Roundabout.

Preparations for the new Friday Street roundabout have started. We have now established the required site accesses, installed fencing and built compounds for worker welfare facilitates. The archaeological works have also begun at the Friday Street site.

YOXFORD ROUNDABOUT
Early earthworks at the Yoxford roundabout will start later this year, which will include bringing the level of the site nearer to the current A12 level. During this first phase of construction, we will need to transport surplus earth to the Sizewell Link Road site along the A12.
From 31 May to 2 June Openreach will be undertaking works at Middleton Road in Yoxford to move their cable to underground. This will require temporary traffic lights which will be operational between 8am and 5pm. The lights will be manually operated to allow traffic to flow with minimal congestion. The final works on 2 June will be to remove telegraph poles.
The roundabout will be connected to the A12 later this year. The work will be completed in phases and we will keep you informed of works and dates as they develop.

RAILWAY SCHEMES
Rail works continue with the first trains beginning to move down the Leiston branch line to bring materials to the Ancillary Construction Area and Buckleswood Road compound. This will mean we can begin upgrading the track from June. We have set up a new compound for the rail works at Leiston Airfield which we will share with Scottish Power Renewables. This area, which includes welfare facilities, will be where workers park. The site will mean less worker traffic will need to go through Leiston. A programme of level crossing upgrades along the Sizewell branch line will start in August, which will be done in stages to minimise the impact on the local community.
Works on the East Suffolk branch line, which runs between Ipswich and Lowestoft, include level crossing improvements and track upgrades which were completed earlier this year. We will be conducting surveys during the summer at Darsham Station and Melton Station level crossings, where the works will start in 2026. Network Rail will also be delivering upgrades to other level crossings on the East Suffolk branch line from Q3 2025.
Essex and Suffolk Water will be carrying out works at the Saxmundham level crossing which will require traffic management and possible road closures. There will also be works carried out at the Leiston Level Crossing, which will also require traffic management.
