MONTHLY WORKS UPDATE

APRIL 2025

SIZEWELL C UPDATE

The work across all the Sizewell C sites continues to progress at pace. Preparation for the Friday Street Roundabout has begun with the creation of the works compound on the Friday Street car boot sale field – the car boot sale is not affected by the compound creation. The next steps will be to establish the Friday Street site, which will include vegetation removal and where necessary, tree removal. The works will be overseen by ecological clerk of works to ensure we do not disturb nesting birds during this time. The removal will be seen from the A12 as you proceed to or from Stratford St Andrew and Farnham village.

The Friday Street Roundabout will link the two-village bypass around Stratford St Andrew and Farnham to the A12. Preparation for the construction of the bypass also includes removal of vegetation as well as some trees. Heras fencing along the boundary of the works will also start to be erected. The railway works in and around Leiston are also moving forward. Specifically, removal of vegetation and some trees has been necessary to create the space required to rebuild the tracks

along the line and to improve the overall line for operation. Works to upgrade the level crossings in the area are also ongoing with surveys being carried out to review the work requirements in the area.

Earthworks at the Yoxford roundabout will start later this month. The work will begin away from the A12 to ensure there is no disruption along the road.

Vegetation clearance at the site for the Northern Park and Ride has now been completed as archaeology continue at the site. Our archaeologists also continue their work on the Southern Park and ride which is expected to conclude this autumn. As areas become free from archaeology surveys, we will commence building work which is due to start in phases this summer. There are on-going works to realign BT Openreach network wires along the slip road, which are expected to run to the end of May.

The refreshed Sizewell C Works Tracker was launched on 5 February. The navigation of the site has been improved, and members of the community can now sign up for email updates each time the Works Tracker is updated. Later in the year we will extend this to add an SMS service.

ANCILLARY CONSTRUCTION AREA (ACA)

We continue to progress our works in and around the main site and project offices. We are currently building the necessary road infrastructure within the ACA. The bus services is up and running and we have taken delivery of the latest hydrogen bus. The fencing around the ACA is ongoing and replacement vegetation along King Georges Avenue has been planted. At the main development site, we continue earth works and prepare for the construction of the SSSI bridge and additional welfare facilities

TEMPORARY

CONSTRUCTION AREA (TCA)

The first phase of the construction of the main access road has been completed which will take traffic through our site, past the desalination and concrete plants, and up to the bridge which will cross the SSSI. The site has recently had new offices and utilities established in order that workers are reasonably dispersed to the areas were work is occurring. Security fencing will be installed around the entire site from April and will be completed in October 2025.

MAIN CONSTRUCTION AREA (MCA)

We have begun sheet piling to start construction of the SSSI bridge that will connect the Main Construction Area with the Temporary Construction Area. This is an important piece of infrastructure that connects our network to the main site, alongside this we built construction compounds to carry out this work. We continue to carry out earth works on the MCA including stone crushing.

WORKS IN AND AROUND LEISTON

There is a continued increase of work around Leiston. You can stay up to date by checking our Works Tracker.

Road improvement works

Work has now started on building a new roundabout to improve safety and connectivity between the B1122, Abbey Road and Eastbridge Road along with the main Sizewell C entrance.

This will be constructed in the field between the B1122 and Eastbridge Road. The roundabout is expected to be completed in January 2026. There will be traffic management required around the area in order to prepare the site, including along Eastbridge Road and occasionally along the B1122.

Rail works

Rail works also continue at pace with the first trains beginning to move down the Leiston branch to bring materials to the Buckleswood Road compound and laying of tracks. Vegetation clearance and where necessary tree removal continues along the track as we upgrade the route.

CAMPUS & NORTH PLAZA

Campus

We have started archaeology work at our accommodation campus in preparation for the main construction works, we are in the final stages of design which will be presented to the community forums when complete.

North Plaza

From March to early May, works will take place on Abbey Road between Rowley Mews and Eastbridge Road. Road closures will be in place overnight and traffic management in place during the day. Overnight closures will run between 19:00 – 05:00.

Residents living within the road closure will still have access.

SIZEWELL BEACH

Free parking at Sizewell Beach

Visitors to Sizewell Beach will benefit from free parking for the next year. The twelve-month trial is intended to encourage year-round use of Sizewell Beach and relieve possible pressure at more ecologically sensitive areas such as Dunwich beach, RSPB Minsmere.

Habour Master

Neil Glendinning has joined the Sizewell C team as harbour master. Neil is the contact person for the maritime community. Sizewell C will bring in a large proportion of its construction materials and plant by sea. Neil will oversee this and ensure that we comply fully with Port Marine Safety Code.

Wave Walker

The Wave Walker jack up barge can be seen from the beach at the northern end of the Sizewell C site. The Wave Walker is carrying out seabed surveys along the shoreline over the next month.

NORTHERN PARK & RIDE

(DARSHAM)

We have now begun works on the Northern Park and Ride which is due to be partially operational early 2026. This first part of construction will be the roundabout that will link the park and ride to the A12.

We are aware of the restrictions impacting pedestrians and cyclists due to the closure of Willow Marsh Lane. The road closure is necessary to ensure a safe construction site and we are aiming to reopen as soon as possible. We are working with Suffolk County Council to improve the footpath along

the A12 between Yoxford and Darsham to ensure pedestrian and cyclist can still access Darsham station.

From March 2025 there will be utilities diversion works being undertaken including internet fibre installation along the path of A12, realignment of water pipes and overhead power lines.

ORWELL LOGISTICS

K

We have recently taken tenancy of the Freight Management Facility (FMF). The facility can be seen from the A14, works continue to establish two additional warehouses. The FMF is a vital part of how we manage our lorries and goods travelling to Sizewell. The FMF site will be for HGVs to check-in before proceeding along the A12 to site, the warehouse will increase our storage capacity for materials. HGVs will access and leave the site from the eastbound side of the A14.

SIZEWELL LINK ROAD

Archaeology and vegetation clearance works are continuing our Sizewell Link Road sites. Main construction works will begin once areas of archaeology are complete. We will be starting to construct access and compound to the west of Sizewell Link Road, just off the A12 on Town Farm Lane at the end of March

This includes creating a site access, erecting fencing, building compounds including workers facilities, vegetation clearance and tree removal and archaeological investigations. There will be significant removal of hedges and trees along the A12, which will require brief nighttime closures to ensure safety from 31 March for five days, traffic management will be in place during these times. BT Open Reach continue to realign the cables which include traffic management along the A12.

RAILWAY SCHEMES

The rail works continue at pace with ongoing enabling works, the laying of tracks, including the removal of lineside vegetation, essential to create a safe space to construct and operate the improved rail infrastructure. and January saw the first trains beginning to move down the Leiston branch to bring materials to the site, with 14,000m of rail dropped along the route. April will see further deliveries to both Buckleswood Road compound and the Ancillary Construction Area. As we work to improve the line, there will be some required road closures required at level crossings where level crossings are located. This will include Knodishall (as outlined in the below map) for three days in

mid April (14 April – 17th April), Leiston level crossing on Abbey Road, from 22 April to 25th April and Saxmundham Road level Crossing from the 28 April – 2 May.

Further works on the East Suffolk Branch line (Ipswich –Lowestoft) include track and level crossing improvements. This work is being led by Network Rail, during March and April surveys will be carried out at Melton Station level crossing, the works are expected to start on the crossing in summer early 2026.
