The University’s NCAA Division I men’s and women’s athletic events are free for students.

Freshmen live in suite-style units in one of three residence halls. Two people share a room, with four people sharing a bathroom. Graduate students and upper-class students (sophomore and above) have two options for living on campus: Evergreen Hall and Cougar Village. International students may prefer Cougar Village, because it offers a full kitchen to prepare meals.

The International Hospitality Program This community organization welcomes and helps international students at SIUE. Members sponsor events, picnics, dinners and holiday gatherings, and assist with temporary housing.

ESLI Program Non-native English-speaking students can study English through the English as a Second Language International Language Center located on the SIUE campus with conditional admission to an SIUE degree program. Career Development Center Students have access to internship and cooperative training opportunities at many technical, industrial and professional companies located in the metropolitan area. SIUE international students have gone on to jobs with IBM, Dell, Monsanto, Intel and Microsoft, to name a few.

Curricular Practical Training Qualified students can gain work experience through an internship, cooperative education or any other employment that is related to the student’s degree program.

Optional Practical Training The U.S. government allows international students to apply for work experience in their field of academic study. This form of employment occurs after graduation and allows work permission for 12-36 months depending upon your field of study.

English Language Verification International applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency. Applicants to an undergraduate program who hold a U.S. high school diploma and applicants to a graduate program who completed an undergraduate degree at a U.S. university are not required to provide additional documentation to demonstrate English proficiency. Official score reports must be sent directly from the testing service (ETS) to SIUE Admissions. The institutional code for SIUE is 001759.
