Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The DMA stadium. Our visitors are Guernsey which is why this is an early kick off. It gives them plenty of time to get their flight home. Welcome to their players, officials and supporters. A welcome also to this afternoons match officials. It’s good times for The Brickies at the moment. Four wins out of our last five games, making progress in the FA Cup and a great performance and result in our last match at Ramsgate. We all knew it was going to be difficult for the first couple of matches of the season with some of our key players missing and so it proved. Now though with the presence of George and Jono back in defence we look a much better side. Unfortunately we are now missing Ollie Brown and Jake Beecroft for a couple of games. What has been pleasing though is the performance of some of our younger players who have excelled. Conrad Lee has been great for us since he joined in the middle of last season. He improves with every game and I am sure he is one of the first names on Nick’s team sheet. Seventeen year old Jack Steventon is another to greatly impress me. He is going to be a very good player indeed. Fred Obasa is fast becoming a supporters favourite. His never say die attitude catches out many teams and he is one of those exciting players we all like watching. Stefan Wright is not only a great character but is a hand full for opponents.

in the FA Cup. Seven Acre & Sidcup had defeated big spending Sevenoaks Town in the previous round and although being two leagues lower than us had some players who are more than capable of playing at a higher level. We started off well enough stoking the ball around nicely and went one up with an excellent strike from 30 yards by Conrad Lee. Seven Acre then got an equaliser when it looked like we were in control. As the match wore on we looked much the fitter side and attacked more and more. Hicham Akhazzan got the winner near the end of the game. A competent workman like performance in what was a tricky game. On Monday we visited Ramsgate and came up against or old managers, The Wards, who took many players with them when they went to Whitstable Town and took the same players to Ramsgate at the beginning of this season. If we thought this was going to be a difficult game we couldn’t have been more wrong! Ramsgate were never in it. Our team , spurred on by magnificent support from the travelling Brickies, scored three but it should have been many more. A very enjoyable day! Congratulations to George Crimmen and Tom Brunt who have now played over 100 games for The Brickies. In fact today will see George Crimmen’s 104th appearance and Tom’s 102nd. Next Saturday we have our first qualifying round Emirates FA Cup match away at Metropolitan Police. Obviously a very important game for us. This match is worth £3000 to the winners – a lot of money for us! Before that we visit Whitstable Town for the return league game. This is next Tuesday.

Our last home game was against Whitstable Town. A competitive game as always against the Oystermen was settled by an excellent strike from Ollie Bankole. Unfortunately this continued Whitstable’s losing sequence and resulted in Will Graham leaving. A shame re- Enjoy the game! ally as Will had to rebuild when the Wards John took many of Whitstable’s players to Ramsgate. Then we had a real “Banana skin” match

Guernsey A BRIEF HISTORY Guernsey Football Club was formed in 2011 to offer the island's elite footballers the opportunity to progress and test themselves on a regular basis outside of the Channel Islands. The proposal to establish the club and seek to join the English national league pyramid system was developed by the Guernsey Football Association in an attempt to further advance development opportunities for the island's current and future players by playing at higher levels on a regular basis. We are an independent, community amateur football club which play in the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South at Step Four on English football's non-league pyramid system. The club is owned and run for the benefit of the local Guernsey community and it plays its home games at the Footes Lane Stadium. The club's vision is to create, develop and maintain a sustainable, successful, financially viable, democratic football club that creates and maintains real and lasting benefits to its members and the local Guernsey community. We are a registered charity and will remain a non-profit organisation with any financial surpluses being re-invested for the future viability of the club and hence the benefit of the local community. All club officials and staff are volunteers. The initial idea to establish Guernsey FC was developed during the 2009-10 season when Guernsey's Senior County Division One representative side enjoyed a successful run in the FA National League System Cup (for league representative sides at Step Seven on the non-league pyramid system and below, since renamed the FA Inter-League Cup), culminating in Guernsey beating the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 in the final in May 2010. Along the way, Guernsey defeated representative sides from the Kent County Premier League, the Northampton Premier League, the Southern Amateur League, the Hertfordshire Premier League and the Dorset Premier League. The final was held in Guernsey in front of a crowd of over 2,500 and was the first time ever that the FA had allowed one of its competition finals to be held outside of the UK mainland. Following a 1-0 victory over Jersey to reclaim the Muratti Vase in May 2010, the prize for winning the FA National League System Cup for this same squad of players was to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup preliminary round in Croatia in September 2010. This was a fantastic experience for the players and coaching and medical staff and, although Guernsey enjoyed mixed fortunes by beating Wales 3-0, drawing with hosts Croatia 1-1 and losing to group winners Turkey 3-0, it provided football at a higher standard, was very motivational and gave our players a great desire to improve further and to play more regularly at higher levels. Over the course of the following few months, the club's founding directors, Steve Dewsnip and Mark Le Tissier, received encouragement from the Football Association, the Guernsey FA, the Combined Counties League (which we were introduced to by the FA), our former official main club sponsor Sportingbet, the island's government (the States of Guernsey) and the island's local football community to develop our plans for the new club further and were delighted when the member clubs of the Combined Counties League voted by a significant majority on 20 June 2011 to allow Guernsey FC to join Division One of their

league. Although our club is very young, football in Guernsey has a long history dating back to 1893 when the Guernsey FA was established and since then has produced several players who have graced the highest levels of the English professional game, including Bill Spurdle (Manchester City), Richard Le Flem (Nottingham Forest & England U23), Ron Farmer (Coventry City), Len Duquemin (Tottenham Hotspur) and, more recently and more famously, our former club president Matt Le Tissier (Southampton and England). Saturday 6th August 2011 was a historic day for Guernsey FC and the island in general when the club played its inaugural game at Footes Lane against Knaphill FC in the Combined Counties League Division One. That historic day turned into an historic season with the club winning the league title, having lost only 2 of its 34 league matches, with a 7-1 win against second-placed Bedfont Sports in front of 2,143 supporters at Footes Lane in March 2012 and then going on to secure the double in its first season by winning the Combined Counties Premier Challenge Cup following a 2-0 victory after extra-time over Premier Division side Colliers Wood United. The 2012-13 season was a tough campaign. The Green Lions reached the semi-finals of the FA Carlsberg Vase in the club’s first season in the competition, breaking its record attendance twice in the historic run. A crowd of 4,290 was at Footes Lane for the semi-final first leg against Spennymoor Town. The league campaign saw countless postponed fixtures due to adverse weather and the cup run. In April, Guernsey FC played a staggering 16 games in 30 days. The May bank holiday weekend saw GFC play four games in four days and remarkably secure all 12 points to finish second in the Combined Counties Premier League and gain promotion to the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South. The club's first season in the Ryman Isthmian Leagues was a constructive campaign and had plenty of highs. The club finished in a respectable fourth place but lost 32 away to Leatherhead in the play-off semi-final. The Green Lions also became the first team from the Channel Islands to play in the FA Cup during the 2013/14 season, when they took on Crawley Down Gatwick away on 31st August 2013. GFC won the game 3-1 and eventually went out of the competition in the 2nd qualifying round, after losing 3-2 to the Conference South's Dover Athletic. Guernsey's second season in Ryman South was much tougher. Injuries and unavailability left the Green Lions struggling though October and November and it wasn't until just before Christmas that results picked up. Any hopes of sneaking into the play-offs late on were dashed with a run of four defeats in five games in March. The Green Lions eventually finished 10th in the league before many of the squad were part of the Guernsey FA goldmedal winning side at the 2015 NatWest Island Games in Jersey

The Chairman’s Column In my last programme notes for The Whitstable game I was hoping for three wins out of three for that week and wow I got my wish! In terms of results it was the best week I have had as Chairman. Two league wins and an FA Cup victory was just fantastic for everyone. When you get a week like that the results are more important than how we played. It was a professional performance against the oystermen and whilst we were not great in the cup a goal like our first one should be part of a win. I missed the BH Monday game and I understand we played very well. If we can get some consistency and some regular goals from the forward players we will do just fine this year. I write these notes as the transfer window closes in the professional game and wish we had something similar in our semi pro game. Nic has worked hard this year to retain the better players from last year and add some new ones that lifts us a further notch up. As a Chairman the more successful we get does bring enquiries about our players and as always we will do our best to retain them. We welcome Guernsey here today and they are a great addition to football at this level. Very friendly club it will be great to meet them again. Finally thanks to all our fantastic supporters for cheering us through this great week! Let's hope our crowds continue to increase and we do what we do best cheer the brickies to victory. Match Reports by Tony Rickson Friday 28th August 2015, FA Cup Preliminary Round. Seven Acre & Sidcup 1 Sittingbourne 2, att 152 How many times has Hicham Akhazzan coolly scored a vital goal for Sittingbourne over the years? Just four minutes after coming on as sub, he won this FA Cup preliminary round tie which nets a bonus of just under £2,000 for the club. But what hard work of it Sittingbourne made against a team who play two levels lower, in the Kent Invicta League. Seven Acre & Sidcup have only entered the grand old competition for the first time this season, qualifying because they now share Thamesmead’s ground, which is more than good enough for staging FA Cup ties. They were obviously going to battle and run themselves into the ground, and that’s just what they did, running out of steam in the last 20 minutes or so when Sittingbourne at last made their superiority count. Sittingbourne went into the match with just one change from the team that beat Whitstable 1-0 just three nights earlier, Ollie Brown coming in as the play-making midfielder in the absence of holidaying Jake Beecroft. But also back for the first time this season was Jono Richardson, and when he came on in the second half it was immediately as if he’d never been away. Seven Acre got a couple of early corners but it was Sittingbourne who took an 11th minute lead with a super first goal for the club by the quiet man, Conrad Lee. He advanced up the left wing, cut inside, and when no-one came out to challenge him, hit a superb 20-yard shot inside the near post. And with his right foot, which normally doesn’t get much of an airing. What an asset young Lee has become since cementing his place in the team towards the end of last season. Nick Davis almost scored a second with a header from a long Jack Steventon throw-in, and Harry Smith and Adam Williams had shots saved, but Sittingbourne didn’t really build on their one-goal advantage. They were guilty of running into trouble with the ball, and not playing at a high enough tem-

po against a team who might have been expected to struggle against extra pace. A poor passage of play by Sittingbourne was capped by conceding an equaliser eight minutes from half-time. Ole Bankole was caught in possession in midfield, and with the Sittingbourne defence already pushing forward, Seven Acre took full advantage to send Foncal clear down the middle. He neatly rounded Adam Molloy and slotted home to make it 1-1. Seven Acre had made a game of it in the first half but were gradually pushed further and further back as the game went on, and surprisingly didn’t refresh their team with any substitutes until too late. Sittingbourne’s substitutions gave them another dimension, introducing the pace of Fred Obasa and the craft of Akhazzan, and the chances began to be flow. The winner came with 83 minutes played. Steventon, who I thought did excellently at rightback, pushed forward and found Obasa, and he pulled the ball back low across goal. Bankole miscued but the ball rolled onto Akhazzan, who made no mistake as he fired high into the roof of the net from beyond the far post. It was a first goal of the season for the long-serving Akhazzan, who was sporting a smart new haircut, and means nine Sittingbourne goals have been shared by eight players so far this season. The victory makes it four wins out of five for Sittingbourne, and although they were not quite as convincing as they would have liked, the cheque for making it into the next round is in the post. Their opponents in the first qualifying round are Ryman Premier side Met Police, who will have home advantage when they play Sittingbourne on Saturday, September 12th. Sittingbourne: Molloy, Steventon, Lee, Davis (Richardson 53 mins), Crimmen, Bankole, Brunt (Akhazzan 80 mins), Brown, Smith, Williams (Obasa 58 mins), Cornwell,

Nick’s Notes I write these notes on the back of what has been a tremendous week for the club on the field. Having picked up two wins in the league against two of our Kent rivals and progression in the FA cup and much needed prize money the players have showed great togetherness and commitment. Beating Ramsgate in the manner we did and to near enough dominate the game from start to finish is the biggest compliment we can take away from the performance. We can’t now rest on our morals and we need to show consistency again this week where we have 3 really tough games. Guernsey are a good side and play some fantastic football and we are going to have to be out our best to keep our run going, however if we show the same attitude and application we have recently I am confident in getting a result. We then have another Kent Derby away to Whitstable and only having played them last Tuesday this is somewhat a strange fixture to have so soon after playing them at home. Then onto the big FA cup game away to Met Police, again a really tough draw but one we are really looking forward to. I want to finish with thanking all the supporters that turned out In force away to Ramsgate. There was a real buzz and fantastic atmosphere and the 40 plus who travelled and sung their hearts throughout really helped us getting the result we did. You really were a credit to the club. NICK

Ryman South Matches Today

Match Reports by Tony Rickson Tuesday 25th August 2015 Ryman League South Sittingbourne 1 Whitstable Town 0 Att 158 A magnificent display by central defenders George Crimmen and Nick Davis was the backbone of a narrow Sittingbourne win over Kent rivals. The pair repelled everything that was thrown at them, particularly in the second half when Whitstable, who have yet to win a point this season, mainly dominated possession. Manager Davis has now started three games for Sittingbourne this season and only one goal has been conceded in more than four hours that he’s been on the field. He’s still an excellent defender who more than merits a place in the team. The third Sittingbourne hero on the night was Harry Smith, who worked tirelessly, both in attack and helping out the defence, and never shirked a challenge or a run to close down an opposition player. Sittingbourne made two changes from the team that lost disappointingly at Carshalton on Saturday, Davis and Miles Cornwell returning to the starting line-up at the expense of Stef Wright and Hicham Akhazzan. There were positional changes, too, with captain Tom Brunt starting in midfield and youngster Jack Steventon switching to right back, where he started nervously against tricky winger Campbell but settled into it well. The first half was pretty even, and pretty scrappy at times, but it was Sittingbourne who had the better chances. Brunt, who is always a threat from the edge of the area with the ball on his right

foot, thumped a drive against the post as early as the fourth minute. Adam Williams was narrowly over with a shot from distance, Crimmen went close with a header from a Jake Beecroft freekick, and Smith got the ball in the net but was ruled offside. Whitstable worked hard enough, with the impressive Heard patrolling midfield, but hardly threatened the Sittingbourne goal, so skilfully were they held at bay. They forced a long succession of freekicks and throw-ins throughout the second half, but Crimmen, Davis and Smith led the rearguard action and kept out everything. And then Sittingbourne nicked it in the 69th minute. A right-wing break ended with Smith bursting into the area to find room for a low left-foot shot. The diving keeper saved it but couldn’t hold it, and Ole Bankole ran in the loose ball for his second goal of the season. At the other end, goalkeeper Adam Molloy made almost his first save of the match when he dived to his left to keep out Smith’s shot, and soon after exSittingbourne favourite Nick Treadwell headed just wide. But generally Whitstable, for all their possession, were kept at arm’s length and it was often Sittingbourne who provided the bigger threat on breakaways. Sittingbourne: Molloy, Steventon, Lee, Davis, Crimmen, Bankole, Brunt (Brown 80 mins), Beecroft, Smith, Williams (Wright 74 mins), Cornwell (Obasa 83 mins). That’s three wins out of four games for Sittingbourne now as they begin their climb up the table after a slow start to the season

FA CUP Preliminary Round

320 teams took part in the Preliminary round of The Emirates FA Cup each hoping to win the money prize on offer of £1,925. This round up will concentrate on Kent sides and those from the Ryman South. South Park were the biggest scorers managing to put ten goals past SCEL Holmesdale in front of 54 spectators. Karl Parker hit a second half hat trick for South Park. Molesey were close behind hitting seven against fellow Ryman South side East Grinstead Town. Reis Stanislaus scored four goals for Molesey. Other all Ryman ties saw Herne Bay, Tooting & Mitcham, Cray Wanderers, Whitstable Town, Worthing and Heybridge Swifts all win. Ex-Brickie Mark Lovell scored twice for Herne Bay who also missed a penalty in their 3 -0 win over Peacehaven & Telscombe. Tooting & Mitcham visited Ramsgate where Ramsgate thought they had earned an early penalty when the referee seemed to award a spot kick but then changed his mind after consulting an assistant. A 14th minute header by Jamie Byatt was enough to put Tooting & Mitcham through to the next round. Another ex-Brickie, Jie Taylor, hit the woodwork. A Ryman South V Ryman North clash saw Cray Wanderers get a narrow win over Three Bridges with a single goal from James Duckworth. 125 attended this match. Whitstable Town overcame the loss of their manager who left on Friday by beating Walton Casuals by three goals to nil. Walton Casuals had three players dismissed and Whitstable Town one in an exciting tie. Worthing beat the other Walton side, Walton & Hersham, by four goals to two on their new artificial pitch. An all Ryman North tie saw Heybridge Swifts beat Redbridge two goals to one. The winner coming in the 93rd minute. We, of course, fought off a spirited challenge from Seven Acre & Sidcup on Friday evening in front of 152 spectators to win by two goals to one. Goals from Akhazzan and a wonder strike from Con-

rad Lee did the damage. Phoenix Sports lived to fight another day when a last minute equaliser denied our visitors this afternoon, Guernsey. The replay was last Wednesday at Lewes FC as Guernsey have to play their FA cup matches on the main land. Hythe Town continued their dismal start to the season with a defeat at home to Combined Counties League side Chessington & Hook Utd. Hythe missed a penalty in the 2-0 defeat. A surprising result was at Pagham where the home side beat Corinthian Casuals who have started the season so well. Pagham won by three goals to one. Another to succumb to a “lower league” side was Chipstead . The 1-0 win by Rochester United prompted Chipstead manager, Simon Colbran, to resign! Faversham Town ,Dorking Wanderers , Hastings United , Chatham Town and Carshalton Athletic were five sides that beat their “lower league” opponents. Faversham Town beat Bexhill 5-0. Wayne Wilson scored two goals for Faversham in a tie that was due to be played at Bexhill but had to be switched to Faversham because cricket took preference at Bexhill! Dorking Wanderers beat Canterbury City by six goals to two continuing Dorkings impressive start to the season. Hastings United beat Cray Valley by three goals to nil. Veteran defender and ex Hastings manager Sean Ray scored two goals. Chatham Town won comfortably by four goals to nil at Chichester City. Carshalton Athletic played Erith & Belvedere on Sunday and beat them by three goals to one. Erith & Belvedere were disdainful of what they saw as “poor” football from The Robins. Complaining about Carshalton’s long ball game. In the other ties involving Kent clubs Tunbridge Wells drew with Croydon 1-1 in front of 255 spectators. Deal Town drew with Horsham (1-1) on Saturday but won the replay by two goals to one on Bank Holiday Monday in front of a crowd of 241. Another to draw was Whyteleafe who shared two goals with Eastbourne Town.
