Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary

Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to Woodstock Park Our visitors are Faversham Town who have had a great season under manager Ray Turner. Welcome to their Players, Officials and supporters and also the match officials. These notes were written before our match in Guernsey. If we got anything out of that game it would have continued a good run that we have been on recently. Up to that match we had only one defeat in eight matches. Our problem of scoring goals continues though with five draws during that time. This is shaping up to be another really difficult game today against an in form team. Faversham Town have been the second most consistent team in this division after Burgess Hill Town. They are In the play offs and have a great chance of getting promoted. Faversham have come a long way in the past few years and have overcome adversity to be where they are today. Just shows what can be done with sensible leadership. We may have a new signing available to us today if we have beaten the registration deadline of last Tuesday. He is Kieran Oliver who has played for today's visitors and was previously with East Grinstead Town. Nick has signed a number of youngsters recently who have slotted in well. At the last home game SFM (106.9 and www.sfmradio.com) broadcast match commentary of the entire match. They felt it was a great success and they have had lots of positive feedback. It will be a regular feature. Only one home match left for us and that is on Saturday April 18th when our visitors are Three Bridges. Please try to get along for that match. Next match for us is at Chipstead next Saturday. It’s Player of the year voting time so don’t forget to pick up your voting slips from the bar. The presentation evening will be Saturday 9th May. Keep an eye on the web site and Facebook for more details. Enjoy the match!

Faversham Town A BRIEF HISTORY The club's origins go back to 1884, and subsequently entered the Kent League in 1894. The club name however was not really consistent, and turned out as Faversham Town, Faversham Invicta, Faversham Services, Faversham Railway and Faversham Rangers along with others, before being disbanded a few years before the second world war. Faversham Town reformed after the war, and entered the Kent League in 1947, and moved to their current home, Salters Lane in 1948. The club had a decent amateur side, but found the going tough against some of the professional Kent League clubs. Nevertheless, they won the Kent Amateur Cup in 1957 and 1959.

"double". The Kent League was won yet again in 1990 season, but league form dipped in the 92/93 season and was to stay that way for several seasons. The team did manage to reach the final of the Kent League Challenge Cup in 2000, but things were in rapid decline. Matters reached crisis point in 2003, when the KCFA suspended the club for non payment of fines, with the club's operators blaming just about everyone for the mess except themselves.

In the following months, the once proud Salters Lane was systematically wrecked by vandals. Meanwhile, the club trustees led by businessman Ray Leader, fought a desperate battle to heal a widening rift With the Kent League folding in with the previous regime over the 1959, the club had spells in both the ownership of the club and ground. Aetolian and Greater London In a separate development, the Faleagues. However, the revived Kent versham Town Independent Supleague was joined in 1968. The Kent Amateur Cup was Town. Nick’s Notes— (as told to Tony Rickson)

I write a these notes before we embark on our furthest trip of the season on Saturday morning away to Guernsey, followed by our local derby at home to promotion chasing Faversham. Two really tough games and it will be a big ask for the team to keep our recent unbeaten run going over this demanding Easter period. However If we continue to show the resilience and work rate we have produced over the last 6 weeks we are confident in getting a result in both games. We showed great character to go through the month of March unbeaten and once again the team showed great team spirit and togetherness in not losing any ground to the teams below us all of which are fighting for their lives and who are all throwing ridiculous amounts of money in trying to keep their Ryman league status alive. We have during this time managed to score in six consecutive games and this came to an end against Tooting last Tuesday and Worthing on Saturday. We played Tooting who were in middle of an 8 game unbeaten run and even though they had the better of the early exchanges we dominated for large periods in the second half and creating a number of chances. Then on to a well drilled young and enthusiastic Worthing side who had come of the back of a 7-0 away win at Sout Park. Again a huge credit to the team for keeping a clean sheet and although we didn’t have too many clear cut chances we did manage to get into good attacking areas where we should have hurt them but our final pass and decision making letting us down. The importance of home form is critical for any team at any level and this was something that had to be addressed when I arrived back at the club. Whatever we achieve going forward will have a huge bearing on this and this will determine where we finish off the season, and now more importantly where we are next year. To be unbeaten in 5 now at home collecting 9 points and conceding 3 along the way gives us a huge platform to build upon as we try and make Woodstock our fortress. Our aim for the remainder of the season is to accumulate as many points as possible and climb as high up the table as we can, this in turn will put us in a good place to start planning and adding additional personnel to our young and ever improving squad for next year. Once again we thank you for your continued support. Happy Easter From the management team The Offical Sittingbourne FC Website for up to the minute news and stats.

From the Programme editor Good afternoon everybody and welcome to this penultimate programme for season 2014 –15. Because of the Easter holidays this programme was printed before our game in Guernsey. This has been my first season as programme editor and I must say that the earlier editions were a struggle but now I’m using a different publishing package and its much easier, (but still very time consuming—good job I’m semi retired!!) Special thanks to our chairman Maurice Dunk for arranging printing of the programme at zero cost to the club. The last programme of the season will be that for the game versus Three Bridges, and time permitting I’ll put together a review of the season in that one. Our last game of the season though is on Saturday 25th April away to Merstham who some of us believe was the best side that we have faced this season!!! Something that all supporters can do for the club is to try and bring in some more programme advertising for next season as every penny counts towards the running costs of the club. There is an article further on in the programme about Greg Dyke’s statement that prize money for the Trophy and Vase is likely to be cut, and although all we earned this year was £250 as a part of the losers pot! in past years we have had as much as £10,000 which gives us a good foundation for fhe season, so any reduction in prize money is a kick in the teeth for non league football. The FA Trophy final by all accounts was an exciting final with the Vanarama Conference North side North Ferriby United defeating Wrexham on penalties. The FA Vase destination is not yet decided as the final is on 6th May between Glossop North End v North Shields. Glossop North End defeated Cornish side St Austell in the semi final on aggregate 2-1 whilst North Shields defeated Wiltshire side Highworth on aggregate 3-0. So its not been a good non league cup year for Southern sides! Today’s game will be a real test for the lads so please get behind them with your usual support!! PETER

Match Reports by Tony Rickson Tuesday 24th March 2015 Ryman League Div 1 South Sittingbourne 0 Tooting & Mitcham Utd 0 Att 92 Sittingbourne’s decent run of results continued with their first goalless draw at home since the opening week of the season. It means they’ve lost only one of their last seven games, and – as goalkeeper Adam Molloy points out! – they're among the top eight teams in this division for goals conceded. Holding Tooting & Mitcham to a draw is no bad effort, as the visitors have now gone eight games unbeaten and showed themselves to be a speedy and clever team with all the players very comfortable on the ball. They easily beat Sittingbourne in the reverse fixture back in October so the Brickies can be pleased at making it four home games in a row they haven’t lost since that crazy 4-3 defeat by Walton Casuals. On a chilly night Sittingbourne made three changes to the team that started at Redhill in a 1-1 draw, with Peter Smith and Alastair Gordon returning in midfield and Harry Smith preferred up front after scoring Saturday’s late equaliser. Out of the starting line-up were Billy French, Adam Williams and Connor Leon. Sittingbourne played well enough in the first half, but they failed to trouble Tooting’s defence much, going closest when Hicham Akhazzan got clear but smart keeper Kocakis saved at his feet.

At the other end Tooting’s busy approach play wasn’t matched by their finishing with the best chance wasted by Moriarty when he raced clear but then blazed over the bar. The main danger was created by Lalor-Dell out on the left wing but when he got cleverly through into space just before half-time he finished with a shot straight at Molloy. Sittingbourne were much more positive in the second half, taking the game to Tooting almost throughout, though they had to be on their guard against quick breaks from the speedy visiting forwards. The Tooting keeper made a good save from a Javlon Campbell header, diving late to his left, watched as Jono Richardson volleyed over, and then was in the right place to save a Williams header just after he came on as sub. Molloy twice made excellent saves, timing his race out of goal superbly to save from Summers and then Lalor-Dell as they got through for one-on-one chances. Sittingbourne rang the changes to try to create more chances but Tooting defended solidly and in the end a point each was more than fair for a lot of endeavour but not much in the way of quality finishing. Sittingbourne: Molloy, Brunt, Lee, Richardson, Crimmen, Smith, Gordon (Pilcher 58 mins), Cornwell, H Smith (Wright 79 mins), Campbell (Williams 66 mins), Akhazzan

Faversham Town—A Brief history Continued from page 6 An interim club committee was formed, and the long road to recovery was started. The revival was slow, but things started to happen. The ownership dispute was finally settled, and access to the ground was obtained. Volunteer workers however were confronted with completely smashed and vandalised buildings, and grass that reached shoulder height in places on what had been the pitch. A massive clear up operation began, but it was back breaking work. Meanwhile, paperwork was put in order with a new club constitution written and agreed. The KCFA allowed the club to retain their coveted senior status, subject to several conditions. Local authority grants were applied for and secured, sponsorship deals were obtained, and the club embarked on a range of fund raising initiatives. Slowly but surely, Salters Lane emerged in its former glory, and then went even better with the erection of brand new floodlights. The revival of club and ground from the jaws of death was nothing short of a miracle, with a story that would surely rival the efforts to revive both "The Valley" at Charlton, and Accrington Stanley F.C. The first season back in 05/06 was in the Kent County League, where the runners up spot was achieved. Having passed various ground inspections, promotion to the Kent League was obtained, and Faversham Town had at last "come home". Season 2007/08 saw the arrival of Justin Luchford taking over the management with Jimmy Strouts with Town second bottom of the league. The pair then took Town to the bottom before gradually moving up to mid table. Strouts soon left for personal reasons and Luchford, along with Clive Walker, took Town to the Kent Senior Trophy final in season 2009/10, beating Greenwich 2-1 to lift the trophy. A week later, they were crowned Kent League Premier Division champions. Towards the end of his first season in the Ryman League, and with Town within touching distance of the play-offs, Luchford resigned. His place was taken by his assistant at the time, Ray Turner. Turner took charge of the last seven league games securing eighth spot and the position of the highest Kent team at this level. Having consolidated their position, as a mid-table Ryman South side during the first two years of Turner's reign, Faversham embarked on one of the best seasons in the club's history during the 2012/13 season. The Lilywhites lost just three away league games all campaign on their way to finish in third position and reach the Ryman South play-off final against all odds. However, at Maidstone United's newly-built Gallagher Stadium in front of a 2,226 strong-crowd, Town were unable to pull off one final upset. Maidstone cruising to a 3-0 victory to deny Faversham their first taste of Ryman Premier League football.Town spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign just outside the play-offs, and ultimately, had to settle for tenth position in their fourth season in the Ryman South

THE beautiful game can often be cruel and is well versed in kicking you when you’re down – just ask Conference North side Hyde. Last week the poor Tigers were finally put out of their misery with the hugely impressive 1-1 draw at high-flying AFC Fylde not enough. Despite their stark improvement since the return of Gary Lowe – who led the club to the Conference North title in 2011-12 – in early January, there was just too much to do and the Tigers’ second straight relegation was confirmed. The game against the Coasters, rather aptly, came almost two years to the day since one of the best evenings in Hyde’s recent history. Jamie Milligan’s late penalty at Kenilworth Road secured the club a famous 2-1 win at Luton Town and Hatters fans even clapped Scott McNiven’s men off the pitch. Fast forward to now and Luton are in the hunt for promotion to League One while the Tigers prepare for Step 3 next season. It just shows you how much momentum, or lack thereof, matters in football. League winners, especially in Non-League, often challenge again the following campaign as they ride a crest of a wave. Those unfortunate to suffer relegation can sometimes find themselves in another scrap despite the drop in quality of opponents. Losing, just as much as winning, can become a habit that’s tough to shift. That’s what makes Darrell Clarke’s job at Bristol Rovers so impressive. Rovers could become the first side to secure an instant return to the football league since Carlisle a decade ago. Bashley, much like Hyde, look set to experience two straight relegations. The New Forest club suffered the drop from the Southern League Premier last season and now sit bottom of the Southern South & West. Their total of eight league points surely point to more problems than just on the pitch but hopefully Bash can consolidate at Step 5 and make a return. At the other end of the scale, AFC Fylde and Chorley are both doing well in the Conference North following promotion from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League last season. We are now entering the final stretch of this season which seems to have come round ridiculously quickly. It feels like only yesterday had we just seen the back of the dreaded pre-season friendlies! The run-in showcases why we all love football: the unpredictability. Struggling teams find a new lease of life from somewhere and defy their lowly standing. Clubs at the top chasing for promotion start slowing down as the pressure cranks up and you start seeing results you just wouldn’t predict. Last Saturday in the Conference South, bottom club Staines at the very least put relegation to Step 3 on hold with a fine away victory at leaders Bromley. As any manager will tell you at this time of the season, there are plenty of twists and turns still to come and would us punters have it any other way? STEVE CONEY

SOME damaging news for our non-league game came out last week. After his highly controversial League Three and B Team ideas, Grteg Dyke has turned his attention to our cup competitions. Firstly it must be said that it’s good news that the FA want to introduce 35 new coach educators across the grass-roots and professional game. To find the £2.7m to pay for them, however, he has looked in entirely the wrong place. The prize money on offer for both the Trophy and Vase are set to be cut 15 per cent to help cover the shortfall. That may not seem too bad but when you factor in that the prize money is already, in my opinion, extremely modest, there are problems. Let’s not forget that both finals will be televised on BT Sport and while it’s great exposure, none of the four competing clubs will receive a penny. I spoke to Mike Amos, chairman of the Vase-loving Northern League, last week and he was understandably disappointed and worried. First prize money has been cut but what’s next? Will the Wembley finals be taken off us as well? Amos made a great point in saying: “The most worrying thing about it is that it shows the top brass at the FA don’t really appreciate how important the Vase, and Trophy, are to clubs.” And he’s completely right. Both competitions allow our clubs the chance of fulfilling a lifelong dream to walk down Wembley Way as well as provide them with a bit of extra cash. While the FA Cup will always be the jewel in the crown, the Trophy and Vase hold a very important place in our game. Surely some other parts of the FA budget could have been cut? I also chatted to last year’s Vase winning manager Dave Diaper following reports of the proposed plans. After deducting costs, Sholing won very little on their way to Wembley. They received £25,000 for winning the final, with the Trophy winner picking up double that amount – still not a life-changing fee. “We won the Vase last year but after taking away all of the expenses, we made around £2,500 from it,” Diaper said. “We also had a trip to Dereham this season in the Trophy and the prize money for winning that didn’t cover the travelling. Some clubs budget for Cup runs, as silly as that is, and these cuts could really affect them.” The FA chose not to comment when asked about Dyke’s plans although national game chairman Roger Burden has reportedly written to FA councillors to inform them of the concern about the lack of consultation and fears of what the cut might do to Non-League clubs. Let’s just hope they see sense and realise that these plans could have a very unwelcome impact on clubs below the Football League. But even if they do, this charade has once again shown us that the Non-League game is just an afterthought – to the bigwigs at the FA at least. STEVE CONEY

Our core business is to provide cost management services to the construction industry. Our client base includes subcontractors, contractors, corporates, private businesses and public sector organisations. We adopt industry accepted approaches to cost management/ procurement. We apply these diligently and conscientiously to each project. Our staff regularly undertake CPD training and university studies in order to keep abreast of developments in the industry. In addition to our collective experience and expertise, Our software systems enable us to deliver efficient services to our clients. We are also currently looking at ways in which we can further benefit our clients using Building Information Model [BIM]. Many of QS Consults’ clients are already involved in the construction industry with our services complementing their own. By way of example with public sector clients we can prepare cost studies (including market testing) to enable them to make more informed decisions regarding proposed projects and estates strategies. On the other hand for contractors and sub-contractor’s we provide estimating and tendering services allowing them to focus on their core business of delivering construction projects. Just some of our projects are shown below: Some clients we work with may have never been involved in construction before and may be considering a one-off construction project. As quantity surveyors we can provide guidance on managing costs and how to minimise costs risks associated with construction projects. Match Reports by Tony Rickson Saturday 28th March 2015 Ryman League Div 1 South Sittingbourne 0 Worthing 0 Att 106 Draw specialists Sittingbourne made it four stalemates out of five in March as they were held to their second home goalless draw in five days. It was a good battling performance by Sittingbourne against tough opponents who still harbour outside dreams of making the final play-off place. That looks tougher now for Worthing after dropping points here but they have only themselves to blame after wasting three glorious chances. Sittingbourne went closer still when George Crimmen hit the bar, but the worry for them is they’re not scoring enough goals - only one team have scored less in Ryman South this season. For this match Sittingbourne made two changes from the team that drew with Tooting & Mitcham in midweek, Stefan Wright and Adam Williams called up for starting places ahead of Alastair Gordon and Javlon Campbell. On a windy Woodstock afternoon, Worthing started as if they meant business with an attacking free-kick and a couple of corners, but Sittingbourne retaliated and Harry Smith had a shot that was kept out by the keeper’s feet. Worthing had a great chance to take the lead when Pope had a clear shooting opening a few yards out but the ball bobbled as he went to hit it and he skied it over the bar. Both sides were giving it their all and referee Bonneywell felt obliged to call both captains together after 20 minutes, presumably to tell their teams to calm down. He soon produced his first booking, for deliberate handball against Worthing centre-half Heath, and it could have been

a second yellow for the same player a minute later as he kicked Smith in the head with a dangerous challenge. The referee let the youngster off with a warning, but the Worthing management had obviously feared the worse and immediately substituted him. Smith shook off any ill effects by immediately setting up a shooting chance for Crimmen, who from the edge of the area hit the top of the bar with his measured shot. Worthing looked certain to score after 35 minutes when O’Neill was set up with an open goal at the far post but he recklessly scooped his shot narrowly over the bar. Sittingbourne responded with a 25-yard Hicham Akhazzan shot that the keeper saved but couldn’t hold, but no-one was on hand to follow up the loose ball. Despite some decent approach work, Sittingbourne didn’t create much in the second half, Akhazzan first-timing a shot wide and Adam Williams missing the far post with a low drive. Worthing were generally well held by a determined Sittingbourne back four, in which Crimmen was again outstanding, but sub Gerry missed a great late chance when he shot over the bar from close range after a corner. Just six games left this season now for Sittingbourne to try to secure a top half finish, and although they’ve got much harder to beat – that’s one defeat in eight games – they’ll want to round it off with the flourish of a few more goals. Sittingbourne: Molloy, Brunt, Lee, Richardson, Crimmen, P Smith, Wright (Pilcher 57 mins), Cornwell, H Smith (Campbell 66 mins), Williams, Akhazzan (Leon 80 mins)
