StIvesTownFCwasbornin1887inapackedroom attheUnicornHotel,wherefortylocalsagreedto createateamthatwouldcarrytheirtown’spride. Fromthestart,theblackandwhitestarshirts becameasymbolofambition.Theearlydecades deliveredtrophyaftertrophy—SeniorCups,Junior Cups,leaguetitles establishingtheSaintsasa forceacrossCambridgeshireandbeyond.Even throughleaguechanges,setbacks,andwartime interruptions,theclub’sidentityhardened:resilient, restless,alwayspushingformore.

Everythingchangedintheearly2000s.Neville Nania’sarrivalaschairmansparkedarevolution, pairingclublegendWarrenEverdellwithJezHall andErrolMcGammontounleashafearlessnew erabuiltonyouth,hunger,andbelief.Promotions followed,cupfinalsbecameroutine,andhistoricFA VaserunsdrewrecordcrowdstoWestwoodRoad. ThemomentumcarriedintotheRickyMarheineke era,wherearebuiltsquaddeliveredthe unthinkable promotiontoStep3viaaplayoff epicagainstRushden&Diamonds.TheSaintswere nolongerjustcompeting;theywererewritingtheir ceiling.

Recentyearshaveonlysharpenedthatedge.A pandemiccouldn’thalttheclub’srise,andby 2023/24StIveswerehittingtheirhighestStep3 finish,smashingin87goalsandwatchingJonny EdwardsclaimtheGoldenBoot.Withastrongcore retainedandnewexperienceadded,theSaints standonthebrinkoftheirnextchapter.The ambitionisclear,thebeliefisreal,andthetargetis unmistakable—breakintothetopsixandkeep climbing.

CabinsGBhavebeenontheballsince2010,growingfromalocal supplierofrefurbishedportablecabinstoatrustednameacross England,Scotland,WalesandIreland.

Imustbeginbyofferingmycongratulationstothereserveteamontheir5-1 winatBugbrookelastweekendtoprogressthroughtothefinaloftheleague cup.StaroftheshowwasRubenHugginswhoscoredasecondhalfhat-trick withtheothergoalscomingfromSamParkerandOliverGaillard.Our opponentsinthefinalwilleitherbeDesboroughorHarboroughunder21’s. WhilstthereservesweresecuringvictorylastSaturday,thefirstteamwere experiencingsomethingofanightmareintheirhomefixtureagainstBury Town.Leading1-0inthesixthminuteofthenineaddedon,theysomehow managedtolose2-1toourSuffolkvisitors.I’vewatchedplentyoffootballfor manyyears,andI’vebeenscratchingmyheadthisweektryingtothinkof whenIhavewitnessedsomethingsimilar.I’mstrugglingtothinkofsuchan occasion.However,thesethingshappenandthat’swhatmakesfootballso greatandultimatelysounpredictable.Thefirstteamareontheroadat Alvechurchthisafternoon.

Lotsgoingonaroundtheclub,andtheboardroom/VIProomiscurrently experiencingsomethingofamakeover.Manythankstoeveryonewhois helpingwiththistask.Theideaistogetitsprucedup,soitismoreinvitingto sellhospitalityandfunctionstothepublic.Hopefully,theeffortswillbe rewarding. 7

Elsewhere,wearemakingplansforsomesummerfundraisingactivities.These includethepotentialofbeerfestivals,worldcupscreenings,andcharity footballmatchespluslotsmore.Wewillalsobelaunchingthenewclublottery on01May,andyoucanregisteryourinterestbyscanningtheQRcodesonthe postersthatyoucanfindintheclubhouseandelsewherearoundtheclub. OnedateforyourdiaryforafundraisingeventisFriday13Marchwhenwe hostanotherofourpopularquiznights.Thecostis£25.00perteamwitha maximumofsixoneachteam.Thecostofentryalsoincludesacheeseboard. Finally,itwaswithsomesadnessthatIlearntofthenewsthisweekthatClub PresidentNevilleNaniawouldbesteppingdownfromhispositionwith immediateeffect.Thedecisionhehasmadeispersonalandnotconnectedin anywaywiththefootballclub.Whilstitissadheissteppingback;hehas madeamassivecontributiontotheclubinrecenttimes.Nevillehasbeena greatguytogettoknow,hasbeenincrediblysupportiveandalwaysoffers constructiveandexcellentadvice.Iwillmisshisinput,buthealsoknowsthat hewillalwaysbewelcomeattheQuattro-TechWestwoodRoad. Ouryouthsetupformsavibrantandsteadilyexpandingpathwaythat runsfromtheyoungestagegroupsthroughtotheclub’sU18s,giving localplayersaclearrouteintoEasternJuniorAllianceandThurlow NunnYouthLeaguefootball.Theprogrammefeaturesmultipleteams acrossU10–U16level,eachcompetinginstrongregionalleaguessuch astheHuntsYouthLeague,andtheEasternJuniorAlliance,with additionalgirls’sidesplayingintheCambridgeshireGirls&Women’s League.Thisstructurecreatesacompetitive,development‑focused environmentsupportedbyregulartraining,opensessions,andaclub culturethatvaluesprogressionandcommunityidentity.

Ithasbeenathrillingseasonso faracrossallagegroups,with ouryoungplayersshowing incredibledeterminationand sportsmanship. Weareespeciallyproudto highlightourU14Girls,whohave beeninsensationalform.They remainundefeatedafter10 gameswithastaggering55 goalsscoredandonly3 conceded.Theirsuccess continuesinthetournaments aswell,havingsecuredspotsin theLeagueCupquarter-finals andtheCountyCupsemifinals.

StIvesTownReservesbookedtheirplaceintheLeagueCupfinalwithanimpressive 5–1winoverBugbrooke,aresultbuiltonpatience,quality,andadominantsecond halfdisplay.
