Matchday Programme 2025/26-Redditch United

Page 1

FROM THE BOARDROOM

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. A special welcome goes to our friends from Redditch who are having a much better seasonthisyearcomparedtolast.

It was disappointing to lose at strugglers AFC Sudbury on Tuesday night. In mitigation, we had a number of players missing. Ethan Creary, Theo Alexandrou and Liam Cross were injured. Jordan Williams and Duncan Idehen were unavailable whilst Jahrel McKoy was recalled by Cambridge United for their aborted FA Youth Cup trip to Tiverton. With wholesale changes, it was always goingtobeatoughaskandletushopewecanreturntowinningwaystoday.

The last two home matches have been successful with a victory against Banbury and a point against Needham Market. With the latter, we had a decent crowd, and they were treated to a last minute leveler from the Ives to maintain our unbeaten homerecordintheleaguesofarthisseason.

Regarding the last two games, they have benefitted from live coverage on Clubber TV. If you have subscribed, then I hope you enjoyed what you saw. We will be live again on Monday night when we host Leiston and it is great that we are getting thesegamesasitwillonlyincreasetheexposureoftheclub.

At the Needham game, we had several people redeem the half price voucher that has been included in the official club brochure that has been distributed to 5,000 households in the town and surrounding area. Hopefully, we may see a few more today, and equally those who came last week for the first time will come again afterenjoyingwhattheysawpreviously.

Also, about the Needham game, I was delighted to welcome a groundhopper to the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road who is rating each of the grounds in our league. I had a good chat with him, and he scored us quite high with our award-winning food getting top marks. The video of his afternoon with us is available on the club socialmedia.

FROM THE BOARDROOM

Thereislotshappeningaroundtheclub.Wearelookingatexpandingourmerchandise offering so we have more items in the ground to sell on a matchday. Don’t forget that withChristmascomingupwedohaveaclubshopfacilityonline, butitishopedthatwe can move forward with actual merchandise in the ground in the early part of the new year.

Meanwhile, we are in the early stages of exploring the possibility of installing two new padel courts at the ground. This will see the club benefit financially from their usage. There is a long way to go with this, but if it happens, it will clearly bring an improved revenuestreamtotheclubaswellenhancedcommunitybenefits.

I mentioned in my notes for the Needham Market game about how we are looking to bring in more matchday mascots, and I am delighted to say that today we welcome representatives from our Under 10’s who will be mascots this afternoon. I look forward to meeting them and I hope they have an enjoyable afternoon at the Quattro-Tech WestwoodRoad.

With Christmas on the horizon, this afternoon we start our Mulled wine and Mince Pie offering for supporters. You can buy both for £5.00 from our refreshment outlets. A glass of mulled wine will be the perfect way to warm up on what is probably going to be acoldwintersafternoon.

Since taking on the job of co-Chair back at the start of October, I have tried to get round and talk to as many fans as possible. Matchdays are incredibly busy, but both Mark and I are always free if someone wants a chat. I caught up with many of our fans in the bar after the game last Saturday and it’s great to talk to you all and as I have saidbefore, weallneedtofeelthatthisisourclub. Therearenobarriers, andweareall inittogether.Unityplaysabigpartinsuccess.

Good luck to our reserve today who are in UCL action at Wellingborough Town. They havehadabitoflullinactionaftertheirgamelastweekwaspostponed.

But it’s the first team who are centre stage at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road this afternoon. Redditch will be tough opposition, so your support will be vital as we strive tokeepourhomeunbeatenrecordintact.

The Reds came into this season on the back of an indifferent campaign which saw the midlands-based outfit finish just above the relegation zone having accrued 49 points from their 42 fixtures. ,Manager Mike Fowler, who was appointed following the completion of the Southern Premier Division Central season, will be very happy with how his side have started this season, with Redditch sitting pretty in 5 place having picked up 29 points from their opening 16 fixtures.

Following a fairly poor start to the 2025/26 season, Fowler’s men have picked up some good form as of late, with the Reds managing to win four out of their last five league games.

Unfortunately for Redditch fans, they will have to wait until next season to get another chance at a deep cup run, with Fowler’s men exiting both the FA Cup and Fa Trophy at a fairly early stage. Reds got to the Fa Cup 2 Qualifying Round before they were beaten 3-0 by Buxton and were knocked out of the Fa Trophy at the First Round Proper stage, losing 2-1 to Gainsborough Trinity.

UNITED REDDITCH UNITED

THIS SEASON! THIS SEASON!

The 25-year-old striker is a well-known talisman around the Valley Stadium, having spent multiple seasons as a Red, including our play-off campaign where he scored 15 League goals, finishing as our second highest top scorer behind the recently re-signed Reece Flanagan. His third spell with the Club was cut short during the 2024/25 season when he opted to move to Halesowen Town; however, he returns for another spell as his Redditch United story continues.

The striker has already managed to bag himself seven league goals so far this season as will be setting his sights on adding to that tally when he and his teammates make the trip to Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon.

IVES VS LEISTON LIVE ON CLUBBER TV!

St Ives Town will welcome Clubber TV back for their home clash with Leiston next Monday evening.

The match follows the successful streaming of previous home matches against Banbury and Needham Market.

It’s all part of an agreement with the Trident Leagues that will see over 100 Southern, Northern Premier and Isthmian leagues games live streamed on ClubberTV this season

Ives Interim Co-Chairman Andrew Dunn said:

“We are delighted to once again welcome Clubber TV back to the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. The first two games against Banbury and Needham Market saw goals and were entertaining, and we are hoping that the match against Leiston will provide exactly the same”.

Tickets for the clash are available to purchase on our ticketing site!

HISTORY OF REDDITCH UNITED

The History of Redditch United

1891

The Reds are one of the longest established football clubs in the Midlands, starting out as Redditch Town in the Birmingham Combination League in 1891

1893

The club’s debut campaign in 1893/94 began in the 1st Qualifying Round with a 4-1 win at home against Singers FC who five years later would change their name to Coventry City. However, Redditch Town withdrew before facing Hednesford (Town) in the 2nd Qualifying Round, a pattern repeated the following season with victory over Stafford Rangers and withdrawal before facing the original Coalville Town. The reasons for the withdrawals have not been identified, but it wasn’t uncommon for clubs in the 19th Century to either struggle to fund an away trip, find enough available players, or have more important competitions to focus on.

1894

Redditch Town were crowned first winners of the Worcestershire Senior Cup in 1894.

1896

Redditch Town not only dropped its suffix at the end of the 1896/97 season, but also dropped down to compete in local league football, not stepping back up until joining the Birmingham Combination for the 1908/09 season. This was followed two years later by a return to the FA Cup, but Redditch were well beaten 6-0 by league rivals Willenhall Pickwick in the 1910/11 Extra Preliminary Round. The final few years before the outbreak of World War I would witness just one FA Cup win for Redditch, 1-0 at Willenhall Swifts in the 1914/15 Preliminary Round, but this would lead to the club’s heaviest FA Cup defeat of all time, 8-0 at the hands of Cradley Heath St Luke’s.

1930

The club prospered in the 1930s and again 20 years later when they were Birmingham Combination champions in 1952 and 1955.

HISTORY OF REDDITCH UNITED

1971

In 1971, United was added to the name and in November of that year, the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history. A record crowd of 4,500 rammed into the Valley Stadium to see the Reds draw 1-1 with Division Four side Peterborough United before losing 6-0 in the replay.

1975

The club joined the Southern League and were promoted to the Premier Division at the end of the 1975-76 campaign having scored more than 100 goals in the process.

1977

The current Cedar Road and Town End Stands were erected and opened for the start of the Anglo-Italian Tournament. Redditch United featured in the alongside some giants of Italian Football and hosted Lecco and Cremonese

1979

United were founder members of the Alliance Premier League at the start of the 1979/80 but struggled against the likes of Barnet and Yeovil Town in what would evolve into the Football Conference, now The National League.

1989

The club then plied its trade in the Southern League for more than 20 years the highlight of which was another run to the first round of the FA Cup in 1989 before losing 3-1 to Conference side Merthyr Tydfil in front of another sell-out crowd.

1997

The club made the headlines at the end of the 1997-98 season, playing nine games in nine days due to a backlog of fixtures brought about by the poor weather and the then grass Valley Stadium Pitch.

2003

At the end of the 2003/04 season, the Reds clinched an historic double promotion under the guidance of manager Rod Brown. Having secured the Southern League Western Division, the club then won two play-off matches to secure a place in the newly formed Conference North, where they stayed for seven seasons. The Club entered financial troubles and drop from the National League North in 2011.

HISTORY OF REDDITCH UNITED

2011

The Reds won the Worcestershire Senior Cup and a number of players made the move into full-time football including Jermaine Hylton who joined Swindon Town and Omari Sterling James who went to Cheltenham Town.

2014

Having just missed out on the play-offs in 2014/15, the club finished runners-up the following year only to lose out to Leamington in the play-offs.

2016

In 2016, the club worked with Redditch Borough Council, the FA and the Football Foundation as a £900,000 investment programme was carried out which saw a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface installed as well as substantial upgrades to changing facilities. The new-look facilities were officially opened by Sports Minister Tracey Crouch. A full time Academy was developed which enables scholars to take part in College and University level education alongside an elite football programme. Since its formation several players have developed through the pathway to senior football at Redditch United and other local Clubs.

2018

Redditch United Women’s Team does the double, as they are crowned League and Cup winners.

2020

Covid-19 pandemic rages through the globe meaning that he 2019/20 season is cut short due to national lockdown and Redditch are saved from near certain relegation. A new season starts later than normal in September 2020 with a new Chairman and Manger. United start strong under Matt Clarke only for the campaign to be delayed in November and eventually curtailed in February after just 8 games had been played.

2021

United Invest in new classroom facilities and add to their education offer with the formation of a SEND education programme with Heart of Birmingham Vocational College.

2022

Redditch United become the home of England Walking Football Community hosting both their training sessions and international match days. In September the club hosted a Tournament with teams travelling from Northern Ireland, Wales, The Isle of Man and Peru. In this year the club also suffered the devastating loss of 1st Team player Tom Rankin. A permanent memorial for Tom was unveiled the following season in their League game against Rushden & Diamonds, this is the side that Tom played his last game for United.

2024

Redditch United’s turns into the home of fictional team Avon FC for a week as the Valley Stadium becomes the set of BBC series Shakespeare & Hathaway.
