Neville Nania
A fewweeks back I had a conversation with Club President, Neville Nania who informed me that he would like to step down from his role with immediate effect.
Neville is stepping back due to personal reasons, and his decision has nothing to do with St Ives Town, a club that he has been part of for manyyears Neville returned to the club to become President a couple of years ago. This was his second stint in an official capacityafter he previouslyheld the role of Club Chairman.
Neville has been a joyto work with. His knowledge, advice and experience have been welcome, and I have often leaned on his advice on various matters in recent months The good news is that Neville is still engaged with the club and I was delighted to see him at Bishops Stortford last week He will continue to be a regular watching the Ives and of course at Selhurst Park watching his beloved Crystal Palace!
Marina Howlett
Marina has been part of the St Ives backroom staff for manyyears, and after such lengthy involvement last week contacted me to saythat she would like to step down from the board. Up until last season, Marina was Secretaryof the club before leaving that role to her husband Nigel who took over in the summer.
This season, Marina has been overseeing safeguarding administration at the club and all the policies that surround that As with Neville, she has been incrediblysupportive and always been on hand to give some great advice.
With the departure of Marina, we welcome Steph Gillett who will become the newWelfare Officer at the club. Welcome to the team Steph, and it’s great to have you on board!

The third change to tell you about is that Ollie Jones will be stepping down from his role as Director of Marketing at the club at the end of the season. Ollie has been involved at the club for the last fewyears and has moved the social media and marketing operation forward considerably during that time. Having worked closelywith Ollie before I took on the role of co-Chair, I can tell you he is incrediblytalented at what he does and will be a big miss to the club. However, Ollie holds a full time Communications role at Cambridge United and has found that his spare time has become restricted as a result. Ollie is around until the end of the season when he will officiallyleave his role

Today’s opponents have made a superb start to life at step three following their successful campaign in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division last season, which saw the Reds crowned champions with 103 points. Quorn currently sit sixth in the Southern League Premier Division Central with 50 points to their name, having spent plenty of time in the league’s top four spots. Manager Ryan Beswick’s side don’t tend to draw many, with his men taking 45 out of their 50 points from wins, drawing five and losing 11 in their opening 31 games this season. With the midlands outfit sitting just a single point behind the promotion places, it’s exciting times for the Quorn faithful, who will be hoping their side can find enough consistency to find themselves in amongst the top five come the end of April.
As well as their more than decent start to life in the Southern Division, Quorn also enjoyed a very credible run in the FA Cup, which saw Beswick’s team make it to the Third Qualifying Round. Enfield Town brought the run to an end in late September as the step two side ran out 5-1 winners.
Quorn’s run in the FA Trophy was less fruitful, with Reds coming undone against Corby Town in the 3 Qualifying Round, losing out 5-3 on penalties. Today’s visitors may still yet have a chance to get their hands on some silverware before the end of the season, with Quorn making their way through to the Leicestershire Challenge Cup semifinal, defeating Aylestone Park 2-1 in the Quarter Final.
Zak Goodson has been a thorn in the side of many teams across Southern League Premier Division Central and has continued his goal scoring form right up to today’s match, with the right-sided forward netting three times in his last five league appearances for Reds. Goodson has applied his trade for clubs across the NonLeague pyramid, including Altringham, Boston United, and Ilkeston Town, where his goals proved instrumental in propelling the Robins to step three in the 2023/24 campaign.
The former Derby County academy man made the move to Leicestershire in July 2024 and has since become an important figure in this impressive Quorn squad. The 25 year-old has already racked up 14 league goals this season and will no doubt be looking to add to his tally when he arrives at quattro-tech Westwood Road this afternoon. One to watch for anyone in attendance today.

Bishop’s Stortford v St Ives Town

Pitching-In Southern League Premier Central 21-02-2026
Written by Nigel Howlett
Saturday 21th February
What looked like it was going to be a dour goalless draw between two sides low on confidence ended up going against the Ives courtesy of two penalty kicks. The opening spot kick just after half time was awarded when Duncan Idehen bundled over the bustling Frank Norris as he forced his way into the box Cole Dasilva stepped up nervously and side footed his effort at a nice saveable height to Ollie Taylor’s right The keeper guessed correctly and made a good save but Dasilva pounced on the rebound to put his side in front The second spot kick of the afternoon was also correctly awarded by referee Nathan Oakes fifteen minutes from time when Idehen’s powerful downward header from Dan Lawlor’s free kick struck the hand of Brad Russell on the six yard line. Jonny Edwards, who had endured a torrid afternoon up to that point, but was always so deadly from the spot during his previous spell with the Ives, looked as nervous as had Dasilva as he stepped up He decided to go for power but blazed his effort high over the crossbar to mark the end of what must be termed an underwhelming loan spell from Hednesford Town with manager Ricky Marheineke immediately replacing him with Kellan Hickinson.
The afternoon had started brightly for the visitors, in only the second minute the lively Tyrone Baker fired a low cross shot across the face of goal that was only just out of reach of Edwards and Mark Jones both arriving at the back post.
The Blues, off the back of a 5-0 home beating from Real Bedford four days earlier looked the least confident of the two sides but they were the first team to force a save from the keeper, albeit a routine one In 15th minute Norris got on the end of Obi Onyeagwara’s cross from the left but could only direct his header straight at Ollie Taylor in Ives goal. The lively Baker forced the first save out of Taylor’s opposite number, Adam Hayton, three minutes later as he got down the left before cutting inside and forcing a diving save out of Hayton at his near post

Saturday 21th February
The hosts just about edged the remainder of the first half without testing Taylor. Midway through the that first period a Dasilva corner caused Ives problems with the ball ricocheting around the box before falling to Fabio Virciglio who fired wide from 15 yards. Norris should also have done better two minutes later when he managed to escape his marked to get on the end of Jack Smith’s clip in from the right But his free header from twelve yards went straight into the arms of the grateful Taylor The same player again went close ten minutes before the break as he got fed in through the left channel by Virciglio but fired wide from the edge of the box.
After that very cagy first period most of us expected more of the same to follow, but the second half was only ninety seconds old when Norris tried to bustle his way through only to be hauled down by Idehen to concede the spot kick that decided the game Referee Oakes was in the perfect spot to see the offence and had no doubt. It is harsh to criticise Taylor who made an excellent save but unfortunately his parry went straight back to Dasilva who gleefully took his second chance by firing into the roof of the net.
Falling behind stunned the Ives and with their central strike pair of Jones and Edwards both struggling they were unable to create anything of note in the next twenty minutes. The only noteworthy effort on goal in that period coming from the hosts just after the hour when Virciglio was perhaps a little unlucky to see the sting taken out of his 25 yard effort as the ball cannoned into Ryan Fryatt Taylor was initially wrong footed but recovered to make a comfortable save
A couple of minutes later Jones limped out of the action to be replaced Jahrel McKoy and it was the Cambridge United youngster who had Ives first attempt on goal of the second period in the 72nd minute. His powerful 30 yarder was always rising and flew into the grandstand behind the goal without troubling Hayton
Then came the drama of the second penalty. Lawlor delivered an inviting free kick from the left to the back post where Idehen rose above the crowd to power a header down into the six yard box The ball clearly struck the hand of Russell and once again the excellent Mr Oakes was in the perfect position to see the offence and award the spot kick We have all seen Edwards take penalties for Ives and they are always confidently slid in to left, or right, of the keeper This time inexplicably he went for power and cleared the crossbar by about half a metre to leave him bereft with his head in his hands. Manager Marheineke’s instant response said it all.

Saturday 21th February
The introduction of Michael Richens for the tiring Jernade Meade came at the same time and these replacements did spark a little bit of life into Ives previously pedestrian front pairing. Moving Baker into the centre added more life that had not previously been seen. But all that Ives had to show for this extra energy and endeavour were a 25 yarder from Alfie Shepherd straight at keeper Hayton with ten minutes to go and a couple of occasions when they did put pressure on Hayton’s goal but every time that a shot came in there was a defender willing to throw themselves across the line to preserve their lead.
The closest that the visitors came to an equaliser was from the very last kick of the game when an Aaron Smith long throw was knocked back to Lawlor on the edge of the box and he carefully curled his effort inches wide with keeper Hayton struggling to get across
The Blues first win in nine games lifts them ten points clear of the drop zone and they will hope on the way to safety. Ives sixth defeat in a row leaves them a precarious three points above the bottom four and with their next four games all against teams in the top six things are definitely looking tough

Since our last edition of the match programme, the reserves have been in action as they made the trip to Bugbrooke St Michaels on Valentines day. Unfortunately there weren’t able to get the desired result as the hosts ran out 3-1 winners on the day.
They had the opportunity to put things right against the same opposition just seven days later as they hosted Bugbrooke last Saturday afternoon. However, the Ressies suffered the same fate as the visitors on the day took all three points with a narrow 2-1 victory at quattro-tech Westwood Road.
At the time of writing, the scholars will be making a return to league action having gone without a game for a couple of weeks. They welcome Milton Keynes College Academy to quattro-tech Westwood Road on Wednesday night and we hope for a positive result!
The U18s have not been in action since our last edition despite being scheduled to take on Holbeach United U18 on Thursday evening which has been voided. The U18s still remain firmly top of the Thurlow Nunn Youth Football League with a 12 point gap to Deeping Rangers F.C U18 in second place.
Since our last edition of the match programme, the ladies side have not been in action but have unfortunately slipped down the Alan Boswell Group Cambridgeshire Girls and Women's Football League Women Division 2 table due to results elsewhere. They currently sit in seventh place with eight points from nine games played.

The first football club in Quorn was established in the early 1880s, with the current club founded in 1924 by attendees of the local Wesleyan Chapel and, accordingly, was named Quorn Methodists FC , changing its name in 1952 In 1937 the club joined the Leicestershire Senior League Immediately after World War II they played in the Central Division, and then from 1948 in Division 2 after a league re-organisation
Over the next fifty years the club moved up and down between the divisions on four separate occasions, finally cementing their place in the renamed Premier Division in the late 1990s, before claiming the league title and, with it, promotion to the Midland Alliance in 2001. In 2003 the club was the only one at its level to sell a player to a Football League team, when Luke Varney moved to Crewe Alexandra for £50,000.
In the 2006/07 season they finished 3rd in the Midland Alliance and, due to the expansion of the Northern Premier League First Division into two regional divisions, were accepted into the Northern Premier League Division One South In May 2007 the club received a £500,000 windfall after Luke Varney’s £2,000,000 move from Crewe to Charlton Athletic
In 2011 Quorn won the Westerby Cup for the first time with a 5–4 victory over Hinckley United at Walkers Stadium under the management of Dougie Keast, but were relegated from the Northern Premier League Division One South during the same season.
John Folwell was appointed as their new manager in May 2013, joining from local rivals Barrow Town. He resigned in January 2015, with two time former manager Dougie Keast taking over, initially, until the end of the 2014–15 season.
Dougie Keast remained at the helm until December 2017, when former Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott was appointed, joining the club from Northern Premier Division Market Drayton Town On Wednesday 8 May 2019 – Carl Abbott left Quorn AFC to join Evesham United FC
Following The COVID-19 Outbreak – The 2019/2020 playing season was expunged Quorn was in first place in the United Counties league (Step 5) when the football season closed Officially on 16 March 2020 Former Burton Albion and Scunthorpe United Midfielder –Cleveland Taylor was appointed as 1st Team Manager on 1 May 2020 but left his position on 14th October 2021.
Richard Lavery, who had been Assistant Manager at Nuneaton Borough, took over with the club languishing at the wrong end of the table in the UCL Premier North. Fortunes turned immediately, with the club recovering to finish in the top half of the table The following season Lavery led the side to the playoffs in dramatic fashion, as an injury time winner in the final game of the season lifted the club in to second place

There was still work to be done though and a long journey to the Essex coast saw Quorn triumph 5-0 away to Great Wakering Rovers in the inter-step playoff, catapulting the club back up to step four, the highest level the club have achieved to date
2023/24 saw a successful return to step four football Despite Manager Richard Lavery’s departure in February, the club went on a superb run to finish the season, edging local rivals Loughborough Dynamo for the final playoff spot in the NPL Midlands Division Ant Carney had taken over the Managerial reigns, but despite taking the lead, the Reds would succumb to a 3-1 defeat away to Anstey Nomads in the playoff semi-final Carney stepped down shortly afterwards, with Ryan Beswick named Player/Manager.
The 2024/25 season started with a 24 match unbeaten run in the league, building a 20 point lead by the start of January. The Reds wrapped up the NPL Midlands Division title on the 22nd of March with a 3-0 win at home to Wellingborough Town, earning promotion to step three for the first time in the history of the club
