WELCOME TO THE UC DAVIS COMMUNITY The Services for International Students and Scholars welcomes you to California and UC Davis. SISS assists international students and scholars, as well as their families, with visa and immigration issues. SISS provides orientations, assistance, and information to international students, faculty, and researchers regarding financial, personal, cultural, and academic concerns. We also coordinate social and educational programs and events for international students, scholars, and families. We are here to help! IGSPA Event

International Grad Students’ Partners Association

Spouse Event Networking: An essential skill to master in the U.S. Where: SISS University House Annex (behind SISS Main office) When: Friday, June 5th Time: 4:00 - 5:00 pm You do not realize how valuable your network was until you have moved abroad. The good news is that this workshop will give you some tips to master networking skills and help you create your network faster. Networking is normally related to job hunting, but actually its same strategies are useful for socializing in a new culture like in the US. Catalina Gerstmann, MSc Ag. & Res. Economics and MSc Intl. Ag. Development, who came to the US with her husband, will teach us about strategies to build a successful network with professional or personal benefit. Come and participate in this hands-on workshop about networking. Refreshments will be provided. Read more about IGSPA on the last page of this newsletter!

Juneteenth

Juneteenth 2015

Join Friends of the Davis Public Library on June 14 in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas were finally liberated, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and began their journey toward equality under the laws of the United States of America. Juneteenth is a free family-friendly event featuring music, dance, poetry, arts and crafts and potluck dining. Look for the celebration on June 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Davis Veterans Memorial Center and the Davis Branch Library. Sponsors of the event include the Friends of the Davis Library, the Yolo County Library and the City of Davis, Culture Co-op and private donors. Mail donations to Friends of the Davis Library, P.O. International Festival

How would you like to share your culture with the Davis community? On Sunday October 4, 2015 from 12 to 4pm, International House will host the International Festival. We are currently looking for eager volunteers to share their cultural pride in one of two ways.

1) Join the Parade of Nations where you can walk your country’s flag. 2) Join the Cultural Ensemble where you can showcase some ethnic attire from your country along with a song.
