The Start of New Possibilities
DID YOU KNOW?
Singapore has one of the most robust electricity systems in the world, with an average interruption time of less than one minute per customer per year.

The first power plant in Singapore to use natural gas (which was piped) began operations in 1991. Since then, the Country has transitioned almost completely from oil to natural gas, with more than 95% of Singapore’s electricity today being generated using natural gas.
With such a high reliance on natural gas, the Singapore Government saw the vital need to strengthen the Country’s energy security by diversifying its fuel supply sources beyond pipelines, and gaining global access to competitivelypriced gas.
In June 2009, Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) was incorporated to build, own and operate the Country’s first open-access, multi-user terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The SLNG Terminal plays a key role in supporting Singapore’s energy diversification strategy and enhancing its Energy Security. It also serves as a platform to help grow existing and new LNG-related businesses and advance the LNG Eco-system; as well as facilitate Sustainable energy developments and innovations.
SLNG is guided by its core values of being Forward-looking, Collaborative, Courageous, Engaging, Enterprising and Energising, as it pursues its vision to Catalyse New Possibilities in the Energy Transition.
Commitment to Energy Security
The Four Switches
Natural Gas
Solar Regional Power Grids
Natural gas is one of the four Switches of Singapore’s Energy Future. As such, the SLNG Terminal is a critical infrastructure that helps to strengthen the Country’s energy security by enabling LNG to be imported from anywhere in the world; and by ensuring undisrupted supply of regasified LNG for the domestic market.
Located on a 40-hectare plot of reclaimed land at the southern-most tip of Jurong Island, construction of the Terminal began in 2010. Just three years later, on 7 May 2013, we started commercial operations with one jetty, two storage tanks and an initial gas supply capacity of about 3.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Throughout the different construction phases of the Terminal, we maintained a safety record of some 28 million man-hours worked on site, without a Loss Time Injury.
SLNG’s core business is to provide Throughput (send-out) and Spot Throughput Services for end-users in Singapore, who are mainly the power generation companies.

Today, the Terminal operates with:
Two jetties that are able to accommodate a wide range of LNG vessels from 2,000m3 to 265,000m3 in size
Three storage tanks of 180,000m3 each;
A fourth storage tank of 260,000m3 (amongst the largest in the world); and
An annualised average gas supply capacity of 9Mtpa, with a peak capacity of up to 11Mtpa.
These services are regulated by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), and involve the berthing and unloading of LNG vessels, storage and regasification of LNG, and the send-out of regasified LNG to end users, via the Gas Network.

The Terminal has sufficient capacity to supply all of Singapore’s current gas demand, and has the scalability to further expand its infrastructure if needed. Its masterplan allows up to four more LNG storage tanks and a third jetty to be added in the future.
SLNG is constantly striving to not just meet, but exceed our energy security mandate. In this regard, safety and reliability are top priorities for SLNG. We are fully committed to ensuring that our facilities are designed, our people are trained and our plant is operated to strict safety standards and to deliver the highest reliability and availability in the supply of natural gas to the Singapore market. When called upon to support our Nation’s energy security needs, SLNG is ready to go the extra mile to implement new or additional initiatives.

Progressing the LNG Eco-system
DID YOU KNOW?
SLNG carried out what is believed to be the first LNG transhipment operation in Southeast Asia, in December 2017.
The SLNG Terminal also serves as a platform to support Singapore’s ambition to become an LNG hub for the region; and central to achieving this, is the establishment of a progressive LNG eco-system in Singapore, and beyond our shores.

Hence, SLNG is helping to catalyse a coherent national-level LNG strategy for Singapore. We are looking beyond “business-as-usual” to explore new and innovative ways of using LNG.
We are working with regulatory authorities and engaging in cross-industry dialogues to develop new initiatives and explore new approaches to grow the LNG eco-system.

LNG
DID YOU KNOW?
SLNG completed the first cargo reload for the FueLNG Bellina, Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel, in March 2021.
Gassing-up / Cool-down (GUCD)
LNG carriers that are newly-built, fresh out of dry-dock or completely emptied at their previous discharge port can have their cargo tanks cooled from ambient to cryogenic temperatures at the SLNG Terminal, before loading their next LNG cargo. SLNG provides convenient and cost-effective GUCD services, especially if the carrier is already in one of Singapore’s shipyards, or if its next loading port is in the region.

Advocating Sustainability & New Energy Development
SLNG is committed to doing our part to help address the impact of climate change and has embraced Sustainability as an integral part of our growth strategy. Underpinning our efforts in this aspect, is a Carbon Roadmap to materially reduce our carbon emissions by 30% by year 2030, and to attain carbon neutrality by 2050.
DID YOU KNOW?
SLNG has installed solar panels on the rooftops of several buildings in the Terminal, which can generate around 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy.

Along with a 5-year Terminal Efficiency Roadmap, SLNG has embarked on several Green projects with like-minded partners to explore the use of greener energy sources, like hydrogen and ammonia. The Company also has a Cold Energy plan to fully utilise both the high and low quality grade cold energy from our Terminal operations for data centre cooling, natural gas liquid extraction and carbon dioxide liquefaction and storage. As we drive the sustainable use of cold energy, it is our aim to further facilitate the diversification of Singapore’s energy mix while reducing the carbon footprint, and be a key contributor to a sustainable circular economy on Jurong Island.

Catalysing New Possibilities
As the energy transition progresses and the global energy landscape evolves, SLNG will continue to play key roles in fortifying Singapore’s Energy Security, facilitating the growth of the LNG Eco-system and furthering new innovations and approaches for a more Sustainable future.
