INFERNO. In occasione dei settecento anni dalla morte di Dante Alighieri, dal 15 ottobre 2021 al 9 gennaio 2022, verrà presentata la mostra Inferno, a cura di Jean Clair alle Scuderie del Quirinale a Roma. Un’esposizione potente, ambiziosa e spettacolare, capace di condurre il visitatore in territori inattesi attraverso la forza delle immagini e la profondità delle idee. La mostra racconterà la persistenza dell’iconografia del mondo dei dannati dal Medioevo ai nostri giorni. Accompagnati dalla parola dantesca, i visitatori attraverseranno i luoghi terrifici e le visioni laceranti dell’Inferno così come sono stati rappresentati dagli artisti di tutte le epoche, dalle schematiche scene medievali alle sublimi invenzioni rinascimentali e barocche, dalle tormentate visioni romantiche fino alle spietate interpretazioni psicoanalitiche del Novecento. Un’intera sezione sarà dedicata alle varie traslitterazioni dell’esperienza dell’Inferno in terra: la follia, l’alienazione, la guerra, lo sterminio. Oltrepassato il culmine del Male, la mostra troverà la sua conclusione con l’evocazione dell’idea di salvezza, affidata da Dante all’ultimo verso della Cantica: e quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle. Grazie al supporto straordinario della Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, per le prime settimane della mostra sarà concesso in prestito il capolavoro più celebre ed emblematico di tale iconografia, la voragine infernale di Sandro Botticelli. Più di duecento le opere d’arte concesse. Tra i capolavori, opere di Beato Angelico, Botticelli, Bosch, Bruegel,

On the occasion of the seven hundred years since the death of Dante Alighieri, from 15 October 2021 to 9 January 2022, the Inferno exhibition will be presented, curated by Jean Clair at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome. A powerful, ambitious and spectacular exhibition, capable of leading the visitor into unexpected territories through the power of images and the depth of ideas. The exhibition will tell the persistence of the iconography of the damned’s world from the Middle Ages to the present day. Accompanied by Dante’s word, visitors will cross the terrifying places and the lacerating visions of Hell as they have been represented by artists of all eras, from the schematic medieval scenes to the sublime Renaissance and Baroque inventions, from the tormented romantic visions to the merciless psychoanalytic interpretations of the twentieth century. An entire section will be dedicated to the various transliterations of the experience of Hell on earth: madness, alienation, war, extermination. After passing the culmination of Evil, the exhibition will find its conclusion with the evocation of the salvation’s idea, entrusted by Dante to the last verse of the Canticle: and then we went out to see the stars again. Thanks to the extraordinary support of the Vatican Apostolic Library, the most famous and emblematic masterpiece of this iconography, the infernal chasm by Sandro Botticelli, will be loaned for the first weeks of
