FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT
You don't have to get out of town to enjoy some good food! Jessamine County is expanding and getting more places to eat! What is your favorite? I'm a simple chicken and veggies person, but I wouldn't mind a good seafood place! Tell the powers that be! Here are 2 obvious favorites though!
April 19: Merchants’ Spring Open House
April 30: Coaster Car Derby on E. Main
May 3: Community Flower Sale and the Farmers’ Market and Caboose Railside Museum open for the season
As much as I love a cozy winter, I am ready for singing birds, crisp mornings and warm days. There’s just something about Spring that reawakens our hearts, and re energizes our spirits. One thing I love about Kentucky is that we actually do get all of our seasons. Some are longer than others, but one thing is for sure, I’m always ready for the next one when the time comes.
Spring is a time for cleaning, opening windows, porch sitting, and finally getting your hands dirty in the garden and landscape. The warm sun and cool breeze will inspire you to tackle that new home project you’ve been putting off during the cold.
This issue, I hope to engage you with ideas for your Spring 2022 season! Jessamine County is alive with events to get you outdoors! You’ll also find out where to attend Easter service, and who we recommend around town for you to continue to do business here locally throughout the year.
Lastly, I just want to take a second to thank you for reading and loving Jessamine County Christmas! It’s because of you that Jessamine County Spring, Summer, Fall and Christmas now exist at all. Remember to love on our advertisers, too! They need and appreciate your business so much. See you in the Summer issue (coming in MID MAY!)
Happy Spring, Britt

After your lawn and landscaping have been dormant under sheets of ice and snow all winter, they are left weak and ready for sunshine and fertilization. Here's how to get them back and fuller than ever.
Do a little Spring cleaning. Clean up twigs and leaves -- anything that may have gathered over Winter. Apply the right fertilizer early on They make some that help grass and landscape grow, and some to hinder weeds and crabgrass
The earlier in the season, the more often you should mow. searshomeservices com says that mowing too often (once a week) allows the grass to grow too much before mowing it, in turn stunting the roots. Pick a good mulch.
Trim the trees
Decorate your lawn with flowers and lighting!

EasterinJessamineCounty
Easter commemorates the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead, on the 3rd day, after his crucifixion by the Romans. Easter is the oldest festival of the Christian church. In Jessamine County, our local churches would love to have you visit, and celebrate the resurrection of Christ with them. This is a great time for you and your family to get back into church, or to simply celebrate that He is Risen!
This year, Good Friday is Friday, April 15, and Easter Sunday is Sunday, April 17, 2022.

HOME ENERGY SAVINGS
When it comes time for you to build your new home, or improve your existing one, it's important to keep in mind the energy-efficiency aspect Lowering your energy bills and output makes a huge difference not only on your bill, but also in the environment Energy gov states that when remodeling your home, "optimizing home energy efficiency requires a whole-house systems approach to ensure that you and your team of building professionals consider all the variables, details, and interactions that affect energy use in your home In addition to how you use energy, the conditions of where your home is situated, and the local climate "
You should be looking at the following areas to check your energy output:
Appliances and home electronics
Insulation and air sealing
Lighting and daylighting
Space heating and cooling
Water heating
Windows, doors, and skylights
Taking care of one of your biggest and best investments should be a priority This Spring, make a plan with your family about how you will incorporate energy savings to your home

Did you know that the industry standard fiberglass roll can allow air to infiltrate your home or business? Lets face it, framing contractors are human and lumber is hardly ever perfect, so the chances of that roll insulation fitting just perfect and being air tight, is slim to none. Why would you trust your largest investment to an industry standard? Spray foam provides an air tight seal, in every cavity of your walls, crawlspace or attic, giving air no chance at coming in. This means, higher efficiency on your HVAC unit, lower energy costs and a much more comfortable indoors.

Spray foam insulation not only provides you with a higher and more accurate R-value, but it also provides an enhanced structural integrity, higher air quality, noise reduction and a moisture barrier. In the case of closed cell foam, you can actually strengthen your structure by up to 300%!!! What better way to protect your largest investment? 15

NEUTRAL COLORS IN THE SPRING?
When brides and guests think about a typical "Spring" wedding, often we think of pastels, bright florals, and invitations with flowers printed ever so delicately. However, it's a nice change in expectations when your guests see your neutral color palette for your decor, florals, and invitations. One thing that probably won't change, though, is the fresh springtime menu.

Community Spotlight: Meet Todd and Casey Johns from Revive Life House
Revive Ministries began in 2014 after Todd and Casey Jo goal? To create a nonprofit focused on meeting people i unconditional love while building relationships of trust in House officially opened it's doors on April 8, 2016, it bec men’s residential addiction recovery center. Over the pa grown to a three phase program with over 65 beds avail year the Revive Outpatient Center began accepting both men and women.
Every step Revive takes to invite people into the journey of healing is rooted in the guiding principles of dynamic recovery, restored lives, inward journey and life-long wholeness
“Our mission is simple," Todd Johns says, "We are a beautiful people-centered, life giving addiction treatment center in Central KY, where the overdose mortality rate has increased over 50% We treat over 400 clients per year through our dynamic recovery programs that now serve both male and female clients. We do this by creating a safe and welcoming environment where persons suffering from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) can find help, freedom and purpose for their lives.”
As Revive Life House has grown, so have the opportunities to expand services into the larger community The opening of the Outpatient Center last July was one of the first steps toward initiatives like the Common Ground Community Center and NextGen program
"The ROC (Revive Outpatient Center) and Common Ground Community Center are places to find healing, health and wholeness that each and every person deserves no matter their struggles or background," Johns said. And while still in the early stages, Revive is already preparing to incorporate programs at the future Community Center with its NextGen program. NextGen will create space and resources for children and youth in the area, especially those who are impacted by addiction in their home or family.
"We exist to help people move forward in true-life transformation that’s rooted in faith, hope and love," Johns said "And it's through the support of our community that we're able to help rebuild lives; reconciling people to their families, their communities, and restoring their sense of purpose "

Filing Taxes?
Here are some things to remember this tax season
Filing taxes comes back around so quickly and if you're anything like me, you really dread this time of year Something about having to retrieve all the necessary paperwork, making sure all your i's are dotted and t's crossed, and sending up silent prayers that you won't owe anything to Uncle Sam this year, just makes it, um, not my favorite. But, it's not all bad! Sometimes some of us get some money back, and it's a great time to take that trip you've been thinking about, or renovating your bathroom or kitchen that you keep putting off "until you have the money." Just make sure you have all the necessary documents I'll go ahead and list them here from nerdwallet com for you so that you've got them on hand.
Income reports (W2 and/or 1099)
All social security numbers of both you and your dependents
Deduction Reports as they apply (don't forget retirement account contributions, educational expenses, medical bills, property taxes and mortgage interest, charitable donations, state and local taxes)
Tax Credits
Payments
I also looked up the top 6 mistakes people make when filing taxes on turbotax com, here's what they had to say:
Mathematical Errors
Choosing the right filing status for you
Missing out on tax deductions
Forgetting important paperwork
Entering the wrong routing/account #
Paper filing blunders

Indoor vs Outdoor?
Beginners should probably start outdoors to get some help from Mother Nature.
When you are gardening inside, you have to be extra mindful of shadow and light, and constantly remember to water the plant. Outside, you'll get natural shadow and light (check to see what's best for individual plants), as well as natural watering from rain.
Just be mindful of pests. Indoor gardens are a can-do, just remember to water, and place plant next to windows or doors.
You can't mess it up
Probably best to start with a "fool proof" crop. Remember in the Christmas issue I told you I couldn't kill the cactus? Well, that story has taken a turn. Anyway, you can often find crops such as herbs, and fruit, and vegetables that are beginner friendly at nurseries. These plants are known to be gardenerfriendly, and quick to bounce back if you let it go through a, um, "dry season."
Know WHEN to water
One of the biggest mistakes new gardeners make is not knowing when to water their plants, or HOW MUCH to give them when it's time. Often, people tend to underwater plants outside, and overwater plants that are inside. Plants that are outside are "out of sight out of mind," while plants that are inside feel like you should be watering them if you see them. A good rule of thumb is to put your finger in the soil. If it comes out dry, it needs water. If it comes out wet, you're good.

When the weather permits, it’s so fun to have guests over for food, games, a pool party, and a refreshing drink To take entertaining seriously, means you consider it all – the tablescape, the theme of the food and drinks, the party favors, and what you’ll use as a wow factor. I find that charcuterie boards always impress, even if you don’t know 100% what you’re doing.
Spring is for florals and pastels. Contact your local florist for a beautiful table centerpiece, or even small bunches of flowers as plate decor I usually send flowers home with my friends It’s a great, “Thank you for coming!” and it saves you from having to keep flowers alive Win-Win!
As for the food, keep it grilled, keep it light, and keep it cute Nothing better than an Insta-worthy spread that tastes as good as it looks Try a few of the following recipes for a cheat sheet I go with simple, so I’m putting simple in the magazine Feel free to make it as complex as you wish!

The Family That Cares For Yours
Over 10 years ago, the Hill family started Comfort Independent Living, a non-franchised business with a mission to provide high quality in-home care that promotes independence and improves quality of life for individuals needing extra assistance in everyday life Comfort Independent Living strives to provide the highest standard in personalized service to encourage independence and improve the quality of living for those needing assistance with daily life tasks.
Adam, Alecia, Kayla, and Haley have a long history of non-medical care through different avenues Adam's parents owned a handicapped adult daycare center for years, which is where they originally saw the urgent need for in-home, non-medical care in the Central Kentucky area Adam Hill said this about working with family, “Working with family is the most rewarding and, at the same time, challenging things we have ever done
But sharing the same goal of spreading kindness and hope as a family has brought us closer than ever When I was 14 I helped take care of my grandfather as we were lucky enough to have him home for his final resting moments It was challenging for my family but we all came together as a team for him daily This stands true for my family today We come together as a team to provide help for families and allow them to continue to love each other in the comforts of their own home We strive to be a helping hand to every family we meet ”
Recently, they opened a location in Brannon Crossing here in Nicholasville. “We originally came to Nicholasville because of it’s small town charm and close-knit culture, which are things myself and Alecia highly sought after for a place to raise our children," said Adam Hill, owner "Additionally, what better of a place to start our family owned small business! We wanted to start off in a community we knew valued family as much as we do ”

YOUR HEALTH…
TIPSFORCLEANINGUPYOURDIET
The first place my mind goes when someone tells me to clean up my diet is, "I don't need that type of negativity in my life" However, the tips I'll share with you here are such that you will be able to easily incorporate into your daily eating habits, to make slightly better choices, that result in positive healthy changes
You've heard it before but "Eat Your Veggies!" It's an easy way to "add" to your diet without having to restrict Then limit your processed foods Processed is really anything that isn't in its most natural state For example bread is made out of several ingredients Each ingredient in bread is the whole food form Bread itself is not in it's whole food form it is processed
Which leads me to my next tip: eat foods that are whole Like I said up there, whole food is the most natural form of the food The potato is the whole food, the chip is not If the food you're about to eat has been modified in any way from its original version it's not a whole food and it's makes the biggest difference in cleaning up your diet
I'll stop here because I wholeheartedly want you to live your life and enjoy yourself this Spring! Local farmer's markets are a great way to find and enjoy fresh, locally grown, food

Often, many organizations need monetary help in order to get the resources they need and rely on us for assistance.
Many organzations need clothing to assist those in need. Generally seasonal clothing, blankets, socks, underwear, and shoes go a long way.
Money Clothing Blankets
In colder months, blankets and coats are hugely important for keeping people and animals warm as temperatures drop.
Volunteer Time
Having a charitable mission often means that because money is limited and the aim is to give as much money back to the cause as possible, charities rely on volunteers to help their organizations run smoothly
Food
Many charities strive to provide food for community members who have trouble providing meals for themselves and their families Many charities require non-perishable canned goods. Animal shelters may need food for their strays in the form of dog and cat food. Best to call local charities to get their exact needs.

The 7Cs of Marketing
How to Create a Comprehensive Marking Plan
As businesses fight to create a place in the market for themselves, the key to success falls into a necessary evil: marketing. Marketing is the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising. In order to market your goods and services effectively, it's crucial to understand who you're talking to and why. With remembering these 7Cs, you'll be able to successfully market your business, and know that you understand what you're trying to do, and not simply throwing money here and there... We've all done it. So, I'm here to help.
Clients - Before you can sell what you've got, it's imperative that you understand your audience. Who are you trying to target? What do they look like? What do they do for a living? What is the key demographic? Niche it down as much as possible, because if you're talking to everyone, you're talking to no one.
Convenience - In today's fast pace world, customers want to do business as easily as possible. When asking someone to do business with you, make it as convenient as possible for them so that they are more likely to take action, over and over.
Competition - The fancy pants word I use for this is USP (Unique Selling Proposition), but simply put: why should I do business with you and not your competitor? You should not only know who your competitors in the market are, you should know how you differentiate yourself from them. Research them, what are they doing that you like? What are they doing that you can do better? What can or will you say that your competitor can't or won't?
Communication - This is something you start in-house and work into your marketing efforts. With whom do you like doing business? I'm willing to bet they are transparent and honest. Start communicating with your current and potential customers early and often.
Consistency - With radio, I preach this a lot! Your potential customers aren't 100% in the market for your product or service all the time. The market ebbs and flows. You can advertise your washers and dryers to me all day, but I'm not in the market for one right now. However, since your advertising remains consistent, you'll find that once I'm in the market for that, I'll think of you first. Don't get discouraged because you "tried" a medium out for a while and didn't get the results you wanted. Stick with it. Promise.
Creative Content - Here's another one that gets me going in radio. The most important aspect of any marketing campaign is a great creative! What you say and how you say it makes all the difference in brand likability, retention, and if your call to action inspires people to move toward doing business with you!
Credibility - You can build this with an effective marketing strategy! You are an EXPERT in what you do! Show us! Tell us why! Once you build the coveted credibility front, you then have to keep it, and that ensures long term success and helps your whole marketing strategy WORK!
