THE EDITOR

When I first had the idea for a Christmas magazine, I was so excited to showcase the magic of Christmas to Jessamine County through print, locality, and highlighting our local businesses

From a young age, I was taught that local business is the heart of the community, and I've made it my life and career to help build the dreams of others, in turn making my own come true When Mom started in radio over 20 years ago, I never would have fathomed that I would work alongside her daily in radio, and also build a publication
None of this magazine would have been possible without a few awesome humans One, my mom Thank you for giving me creative freedom, a great company to work for, and the greenlight on my ideas To Ronda May: Thank you so much for instantly seeing the vision with Jessamine County Christmas and working tirelessly with me for 3 weeks to see that this magazine came to life This truly could not have been done without you Finally, to the advertisers: Thank you from the bottom of my heart You took a chance on Jessamine County Christmas' first ever edition You believed in what we were doing here, and invested in us Without you, this magazine wouldn't exist
To the readers: because of you, we are able to do something so special for our community Jessamine County is an incredible place that we are lucky enough to live, shop, eat, and enjoy Thank you for picking up this first edition of Jessamine County Christmas! I hope you find favorite passages and activities, and look for us again -year after year

Merry Christmas, Britt

A Brief History of Jessamine County

Jessamine County came into being on December 19, 1798, six and a half years after Kentucky became our country’s 15th state in June 1792. Prior to being formed into the state’s thirty-sixth county, the land contained in Jessamine County was part of Fayette County, which had been one of the three original counties (Jefferson and Lincoln being the other two). The county was named for Jessamine Creek, which, in turn, was likely named in honor of Jessamine Douglas, by her father who settled the land at the head of the creek, or, alternatively, for the jasmine flowers growing along the creek’s banks.
Nicholasville, the county seat, was named in honor of lawyer George Nicholas, who was part of the committee that drafted Kentucky’s first constitution. He was Kentucky’s first Attorney General, as well as the first law professor at Transylvania Seminary (now University). Nicholas County is also named in his honor. Wilmore, the county’s other incorporated town, was created by the Cincinnati Southern Railroad in 1876, when the engineering-marvel High Bridge Railroad trestle spanning the Kentucky River was constructed, pushing the rail line southward.

Christmas is a season for giving. Jessamine County has families, children, and furry friends who are unable to meet the needs required for Christmas this year. Some children not only need gifts, but also coats, shoes, and other toiletries. Animals need food, a furever home, blankets, treats, and more. Here, you'll see a list of local organizations who are donating goods to these families and pets in need. To help these charities on their mission, please call, stop by, and help in any way you can.

Simple Crafts for the Family

Some of my favorite Christmas memories involve making crafts. More specifically... ornaments! My mom would go gather pine cones and we would paint them gold, red, or green The best part was when we got to put glitter on them before letting them dry and gently hanging them on our tree The tree was just that... ours. Our pine cones and macaroni angels made it that way. Here's to hoping you find ornaments to make with your family this year Memories last much longer than homemade ornaments do

Christmas beginswith.. Christ

Luke 2:11 tells us that, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." As Christmas rapidly approaches, I hope you'll take time this season to reflect on the true meaning and miracle that is the reason for the holiday season. Take time to teach little ones the meaning of Christmas, because it's so much more than toys and department stores. Below, you'll find some local churches who are celebrating the birth of Jesus this Christmas. Jesus
