Earth Tones

If quarantine has taught us anything about our homes, it’s the importance of providing ourselves with a welcoming and cozy space to spend our time indoors. What better way to create a comforting living space than to bring the colors of nature inside? Earth tones can create a soothing and versatile atmosphere, but it’s important to use this palette in a space with a lot of light. Working with a palette based on the colors of nature can quickly turn dark and moody, but utilizing a room with an abundance of light is the perfect way to keep the space soft and calm. To start building this palette, pay attention to the tones of wood already present in the space. For example, light, cooltoned woods pair nicely with duller, cool-toned greens. Wood accents can also be an optimal use of bringing in other earthy tones without introducing too many colors at once. Picture frames, accent tables, and chairs are all options to utilize wood as an accent. Sticking with cool neutrals, such as whites and grays, are suitable complimentary colors to use with more pronounced earth tone colors. Try playing around with accent pillows of two or three of the differing colors in your palette. And if we’re going to talk about truly “bringing nature inside,” we might as well suggest bringing actual plants into the indoor space. Not only will greenery add dimension — it will also help to offer a combination of organic colors from nature without requiring too much effort.
