Christmas is just the best time to renew our relationship with our Lord and Savior. As I experience it through the eyes of our grandchildren it makes me smile. For instance, my nativity set is often rearranged because Daisy said, “everyone wants to be close to baby Jesus.”
Gary and I marked our 35th wedding anniversary. Time goes so fast. We enjoyed traveling to Florida this winter and Kodiak, Alaska in August to visit my nephew Stephen and Kelli Foreman. Farming and Foot care at Sioux Center Health consumes most of our time. One leisure activity we enjoy is riding our e-bikes! Makes riding bike so much more fun!
Our kids all live close so we enjoy spending time together and watching the grands grow up. Brad and Amanda have Daisy who is 5yrs old and attends preschool at Early Childhood Center. She loves to paint, dot-dot, and play dough. Her sister, Rylee is 2 1/2 and loves kittens and puzzles and books.
Jacob and Courtney have a son, Rees who will turn 1yr on Dec 15. He is getting close to walking and loves to wink and say,”Hi” to everyone.
Tara and Jordan have a son, Luke, who will be 3 in January. He loves tractors and riding horse with his mom and dad. He will become a big brother in March as they expect baby #2. It’s a girl! Tara is also starting her own business doing freelance Graphic Design from home beginning in January.
Dana, is a sophomore at Dordt. She is studying Ag Business. She is letting basketball go and now doing softball playing 3rd base. She is becoming an avid gardener and loves to make healthy recipes.
We had enjoyed many blessings and yet we also experienced sudden loss of life with my sister-in-law, Cheryl Palsma on Oct 21. How quickly life can change. We cling to our faith when no answers are given. We know of others this year who also experienced loss and we pray God will give them all strength to trust and endure the emptiness death can leave ...always reminding ourselves of the HOPE we have in Jesus.

As I write this letter on a cold, snowy Saturday morning, I can happily say my “harvest widow” days are over. We had a safe and bountiful harvest, even with little rain. Andy got all the anhydrous put on before the Keira (freshly 5) started preschool at MMCRU in Remsen this fall, going 4 full days a week, which was an adjustment at first, but I can happily say she’s made friends and loves her teachers. She continues to amaze us with her wide vocabulary and large imagination and creativity, she has also become helpful with
Abram (soon to be 3) spends countless hours in the combine and tractors, most that he can’t recall (Zzzz’s). He is such a sweet, tender hearted boy who loves everything “farm”, and is very helpful in the garden picking all my green tomatoes, and a few red ones too ;). I am very thankful he isn’t lost while Keira’s in school, he plays well independently.
Rewind to the beginning of the year, we did some butchering, we tried our hand at sausage, which we have some fine tuning to do. I am very thankful for our freezers full of meat. We enjoyed a trip with the kids to Florida in March, the beach was a family favorite, the kids talk about it often and want to go back. We enjoyed 3 camping trips this summer, a couple with my family. Enjoyed the state fair on one camping trip. I stay busy keeping people’s hair in tip top shape. We cherished this last year watching our kids grow and mature, and look forward to adding another child into our family in April, Lord willing. We hope you have felt God’s blessings as much as we have.

We started 2021 off in true pandemic fashion by quarantining with COVID for the first two weeks of the year. We were thankful to have mild symptoms, meals from friends and miraculously peaceful girls for that time. Continued work from home allowed us to get back to our daily routine pretty quickly. Chris continues to work in outside sales for Diamond Vogel, and Jess is in her ninth year recruiting for Grant-Shannon Staffing. Being in “customer facing” jobs has looked very different this year--more Zoom and less visits. Having home and office be one and the same for both of us has been a really unique journey that we can truly say has brought us closer together. Chris is a very dynamic coworker, and Jess does have to shoo him at times. He makes up for hovering with his top-notch pour-over coffee, which has become a recent hobby that nobody complains about. Outside of work, Chris still thrives on Flowerstalks, cycling and now paddle-boarding which is the perfect pastime in Minnesota- land of 10,000 lakes! Jess fills her spare time with coffee dates and perfecting the McDonald’s breakfast sandwich at home (it worked!)
As usual, our year was broken up with visits from family and travel. Jess’ parents visited for a week in February, and we traveled to Florida for 10 days with the Vogels in March. The boat ride to hunt for shells on a barrier island was a highlight. We took a staycation in May to a local waterpark, and visited IA over Memorial Day, which included a stop in SD to see a Laura Ingalls homesite. Summer always feels like one long vacation to us- and even more so now that we’re working from home. We spent a lot of time at the local sandy beach jumping off the dock and playing on the inflatable obstacle course. Jess and the girls traveled to IL for a week in June for “Nature Camp”/VBS at Grammy and Papa’s church. We spent the 4th of July weekend in IA. Another summer highlight was friends hosting a backyard pool party for both Jess and Chris’ birthdays- separately! We felt pretty spoiled. We joined friends at a cabin for boating and tubing in WI in August, and went to Luverne for Labor Day. Jess’ parents visited in September, and Jess traveled to Boston with a friend in October for a long girls weekend. We took our first-ever family vacation, just the four of us, to AZ in October and discovered we loved it. Chris spent a week in Oct and in Nov working in the paint manufacturing plant in IA to help with the staffing shortage. Thanksgiving was spent in IA with Chris’ family, and Christmas with Jess’ family in IL.
Our most notable “event” of 2021 was hosting Jess’ niece, Lauren, for three months in the summer/fall during her travel nursing assignment in MN. It was a total joy to have her in our home. We enjoyed many late nights drinking tea and talking, days at the beach, swimming lessons for the girls and local adventures. God is so good to provide these opportunities!
Ruth (5) started the year with three days per week at Abby’s, then spent the spring and summer with regular care from a friend Julia, and is now in 3-day PreK at a local church. She tried gymnastics for 12 weeks and has moved on to ballet at her school. If she doesn’t know you’re watching, you might catch her practicing with the church pew as her barre, or twirling across the house- she’s graceful! Ruth loves taking care of our friends’ kids, mothering her dolls and singing. She is genuinely funny and crosses her eyes better than anyone I know. She’s an avid swimmer and a very fierce protector of her sister.
Willa (7) started the year in 3-day Kindergarten at Avail Academy, and graduated to first grade in the fall. She will tell you she loves everything about it- especially her teacher and a handful of friends (all boys) whose names we hear on repeat. Willa continues to narrate her life in song and wow’s us with her sweetness and stubbornness every day. She tried gymnastics too and managed to nail a cartwheel and hand-stand after a lot of practice and coaching from Lauren. She did summer t-ball, which was not a hit :) Willa joined CREO Dance in the fall and is doing ballet/tap in hopes of performing in her first recital in June. She also loves to swim and could listen to books on tape all day if we let her.
It’s hard to overstate how much joy we derive from our church family at Good Shepherd. God has blessed us with a strong network of friends to do life with here, and we continue to grow in knowledge of God through our relationships with his people. Chris teaches a high school Sunday School class, and Jess continues to serve on the Women’s Ministry team. We’ve been blessed immensely by the discipleship and bible study groups we’ve been a part of this year.
We’re grateful to know that, despite the tumultuous year Minneapolis has had, we are called to be here. Will you pray with us that God will continue to open doors for relationships with our neighbors that would glorify Him? Know that we pray daily for “our family and friends far away,” and that’s you. Have a joy-filled Christmas and New Year.
With love from The Vogels - Chris, Jess, Willa, Ruth, Quincy the cat and 8 fish

Psalm 128:6 says “may you live to see your grandchildren,” and we were blessed tospend time with all 12 of our grandkids! We added two granddaughters in 2021- Aylaon Jan. 4 and Jessica on July 21! We enjoyed family time at the Black Hills in August,as we camped, rode horse, dirt biked and the cousins played and raided Grandma’scamper for “snacks!” Other adventures included quick trips to Pierre to Julia, SiouxFalls to Tiffany, beach time at the Bible Camp in Okoboji with Trevor, and CO. to visit oursons, Tim and Jayden. Jayden took Gene biking on the nearby mountain trails. We arediscovering new trails with our e-bikes on summer evenings. Thelma has taken a fewtrips to the WA., visiting with her Mom and family and a Sisters’ Trip through Montana andYellowstone Park! One of the sister’s sons flew in and gave an aerial view over the GrandPrismatic Spring! Beautiful! In July, we both visited Gene’s sister, Gayle, in MI. andattended a great nephew’s graduation party. Other days, we found ourselves busy withlife on the farm, substitute teaching, kids coming home and riding our horses at NewtonHills and Yankton Parks. Wishing you the blessing of “His peace that will guard yourhearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” this Christmas and in 2022!

2020 was a rather significant year for Wanda and Leroy. As many of you already know we moved from the acreage to the Regency Retirement resident in Sioux Center. The Regency is located along Highway 75 on the south side of Sioux Center. There are 21 different size apartments and 27 people live here. We make our own meals. The moving process becomes complicated. The word downsize swept the Intveld household the later part of 2020. With a lot of family help we moved to our new home on January 28, 2021. Covid-19 controlled us most of 2020 we stayed home most of the time that year. We received the Moderna vaccine, and in November of this year the booster shot. We are very thankful that we didn’t have Covid-19. We had 3 deaths in our immediate family. Leroy’s sister died November 2020 and her husband Arnold Menning died Aug 2020, both had Covid-19. They lived in Arizona. Brother-in-law Al Boeve passed away as
near Rock Valley, Terry & Stacy are in Iowa City, and Jeff and Janet Saar
Our children still live in the same places. Sue and Mark Siemonsma
in Omaha. We have 6 grandchildren and 6 great-greatchildren.
We wish you all a happy

HAS BEEN A YEAR OF HIGHS AND LOWS FOR US!
We ended 2020 saying goodbye to Jordan’s Grandpa Felten on December 6. He was
such a loving, faithful, strong in his faith, and kind grandpa. Jordan shows many similar
characteristics of him and he will truly be missed! We look forward to seeing him in
heaven again someday.
January we celebrated Jordan and Luke’s birthdays and took a vacation to Florida
with my family. We enjoyed time relaxing, spending time together, seeing Luke’s
excitement for the sand and beach, and experienced parasailing for the first time. We
had a great trip!
Luke turned two in January and we love seeing life go by through his eyes! He is so
much fun to be around, and the bright spot in our day. He loves going to the farm, riding
in the trucks with Jordan or Papa Paul, and playing in the mud and on the sand pile. He
started riding horse on his own this year. We are very proud parents! In June we had to say goodbye to our dog Bubba. He got hit on the road. We were
devastated. He will be a hard dog to replace. The weekend of the fourth of July we
took our annual trip to Sheyboygan, Wisconsin to celebrate with Jordan’s relatives.
The evening of the fourth we got a message from Jordan’s sister Danielle, saying
they couldn’t find her baby’s heartbeat. We were so sad to hear this news. We left
Sheboygan immediately and headed home to be with Danielle in the hospital as she
delivered her stillborn baby boy, Colt Paul Kooiker.Summer went by too quickly. We enjoyed lots of time outside, going to the park, riding
horse, and a family vacation to the Black Hills with Jordan’s family. We also announced
in August that we are expecting a baby, due in March! Luke is excited to be a big
As we look ahead to 2022, we have some big changes ahead. I have decided I am
going to start my own business called Simplistic Design. I’m looking forward to working
from home. I am excited to start this new venture in my life. I will hopefully enjoy more
time at home with Luke and the new baby, while also being more flexible to be around
when they need me. I will be doing Graphic Design. So if anyone needs any wedding
this past year. We have faith that he will bless us as we look forward to a healthy baby,
stationery, holiday cards, announcements, business stationery, etc. let me know. I would We continue to trust God through all the ups and downs that he has lead us through
and a new business venture for me. We are thankful for wonderful friends and family to
have around to support us and help us out when we need them most.
