In this issue showcased are two homes designed by the architect, Cliff May, who was credited with creating the California Ranch Style Homes in 1932. His MidCentury homes combined Spanish Colonial Revival with abstract Adobe Ranch and Modern Architecture. Suburban Ranch 1932-1980. This also started the Atomic Ranch craze. His ―passion was not in the style but the way people lived‖. Growing up in Sunny California where the lines between outside and inside living can blur, due to the almost year round beautiful weather, his homes reflected this. Open environment in an enclosed space.
The two homes used in this article are his Design #2805 Five Star feature in the Better Homes and Garden Magazine and Design #3212. Both were used in his infamous Long Beach Housing Development, which is sought after by many Mid-Century architectural enthusiasts who restore and register their home with preservation communities

Homes had street side privacy, low pitch roofs, attached garages with minimal ornamentation, and were usually single story (some had basements). Close to the ground with no foundation. Asymmetrical and many times rambling, with shapes varying from I-shaped with wings, to L-, U- , or H-. As a family grew, so did the house.
Other Features: -Functional vs. Visually beautiful wasted space -Flowing structure -Vaulted ceiling -Clean Line -Exposed beams -Large open spaces -Large open window -Texture vs. Clutter -Natural lighting -Natural building materials and textures (brick, wood, stucco) His designs incorporated ―planned zones‖ to separate living space from quarters.

By: Greencats It‘s the groovy ‗70s, and fashion photographer and style icon Cassandra Iannucci is looking for a beachside getaway. Cassandra‘s fashion tastes are eclectic, but when it comes to interior design, she knows exactly what she likes: bright colors, modern furniture, and lots of light.
The house Cassandra has chosen is the Semitropical Abode at 36 Paradise Circle, Sunlit Tides. Here‘s why: 1. Fashionable and convenient open-plan living 2. Sunny interiors to show off the bright colors popular in the ‗70s, and to prevent the darker, bolder tones from becoming oppressive 3. Space for a large kitchen to reflect shifting contemporary attitudes to food preparation

The rising popularity of open plan layouts resulted in houses with large, open living spaces divided into multiple sections or areas. This half-wall, already in place when Cassandra moved in, makes a great room-divider White accented with bright colors was a popular combination. Here I‘ve chosen red and sunny yellow. Modern light fixtures in shiny chrome, a linoleum floor, beanbags, and modern, curvy sofas, show off Cassandra‘s up-to-the-minute tastes.

As in the living room, white contrasts with bright colours: red, orange, and (on the ceiling) the ‗70s favourite avocado. Exposed brick walls reflect the ‗70s trend for using outdoor materials indoors. The dining room makes use of popular acrylic materials for its table and chairs.

By the ‗70s, the idea of the kitchen as the solitary retreat of wife and mother was being increasingly called into question. Children came into the kitchen to help out; friends, to chat, eat, and be entertained. Breakfast bars and kitchen tables grew in popularity, and meals were just as likely to take place there as in the formal dining room. Cassandra has a very large kitchen, and has set her Island breakfast bar up for hosting friends and colleagues. The sight of run-down old kitchens in brash greens and yellows may have put us off these color combinations, but in ‗70s they would have seemed exciting and innovative to many people.

Cassandra wanted to go all-out; so her appliances, utensils, wallpaper, counter-tops and cabinets are all in avocado and mustard yellow. Her counter-tops are laminated, in keeping with prevailing fashions. Despite the vogues for brightlycolored linoleum floors and deep-pile carpets, wood remained a favorite choice. This kitchen has exposed planks in an especially popular shade.
Recipe books and cooking programs like those of Julia Childs were very successful in the ‗70s, and kitchens tended to have a lot of storage space for the requisite ingredients. Cassandra has plenty of overhead cabinets, and you should be able to spot her piles of recipe books on the counter. Cassandra‘s kitchen has the latest gadgets of course: a dishwasher (now more affordable than ever) and a counter -top microwave (first made commercially available in 1967). To arrange the clutter objects as I have done, I place each on its own display pedestal, then used ‗Move Objects On‘ to position the pedestals wherever I wanted under the counters.

Studio and Darkroom Since Cassandra is a professional photographer, I have converted the house‘s second bedroom and en suite bathroom into a studio and darkroom.
To position the clutter objects, I used the same technique as in the kitchen, placing each on its own display pedestal, then using ‗Move Objects On‘ to position it how I liked.

The 80‘s weren‘t just about Madonna and Michael Jackson, some people were rocking to a whole different beat. Back then Punk was just coming to the scene, now it‘s all over and expressed in different ways. This issue Miss E will show you how to accomplish that perfect punk rock 80‘s look. So get out the liberty spikes, converse, ripped jeans and short shirts because it‘s time to rock!
Miss E‘s Style Tips
Look for inspiration all around. Fashion mags, the internet, even people you pass on the street can inspire a new look for your sims. Don't get too hung up on getting the perfect look. For example, with trying to get a punk feel, I was really lamenting the lack of specific jewelry types and perfect shoes. Once I accepted the limitations of keeping my Sims CC free and worked with what I had, the ideas really started to flow! Do tell your friends when you add new styles to your studio – it's a good way of getting feedback and exposure. Just remember to credit any patterns uploaded by fellow simmers – it's great to pr0omote their work too

Style it F O With the Create-A-Style tool, the possibilities in the realm of Sim fashion are endless. You can use the same article of clothing over and over again for different eras and events. Soon every Sim will be knocking on your Sim‘s door for style tips. For the ladies, take that plain off the shoulder shirt (Master Suite SP) and spruce it up for Valentine‘s Day, Spring, the 70s, and the 90s. For the men, dust of those faded jeans (Diesel SP) and recolor to your heart‘s content. Your Sims will be fitting into these themes in no time.
Love Is In the Air It‘s Valentine‘s Day and you want to take your sweetheart for a private dinner date. What to wear? Animal prints can be sexy for both men and women, if used correctly. Pair the print with a solid color and use variations and hues of that color to create a chic unity throughout the outfit.

April showers bring May flowers! Springtime is all about the pastels and patterns. Think light, fresh colors and muted patterns – don‘t let them overtake the outfit. Put on a comfortable, color coordinated hat and your outfit is complete.
Spring Fever
Groovy Baby Going to a Psychedelic 70s party? Go absolutely crazy with your patterns – don‘t worry if they don‘t match either. Indulge in it all! Bright colors, flares, and corduroy were the styles of the 70s.
Radical Grudge Smells like…plaids, plaids, plaids! Headed to a tribute to Nirvana? Throw on your hole-y jeans, plaid shirts, bowler hats, and your converse. Shy away from the bright colors; go with darker, muted hues – like reds, blacks, and greys. This will throw you back in the 90s where you can just imagine jammin‘ next to Kurt Cobain. Rock on!
Marie Antoinette Born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria, Marie Antoinette helped provoke the popular unrest that led to the French Revolution and to the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792, in part with her famous quote addressing the starving French populace: 'Let them eat cake.' As a 20-year consort to Louis XVI, she was beheaded nine months after he was by order of the Revolutionary tribunal.
This issue I interviewed pepper090889, who is the creator of Purely Simpired . PS is a wonderful site with lots of different things to enjoy. There is even a store where you can purchase CC and CC free creations with PS Coins. The atmosphere there is fun and carefree, so hopefully after reading this interview you will join the fun. 1. What inspired you to create Purely Simspired?
2. How long did it take you to get everything setup?
TattooedLioness and I came up with the idea when we were working on sites for Simultitude. We wanted a place where magazine fans could talk to one another and with the staff, but we wanted it to be more than just a site for the magazine. We wanted it to be fun for everyone so we added more features to the site. We wanted to build a community that was more personal than the officials so we could get to know our readers and simming friends better.
I would say about three or so months. At first we just tossed the idea around, without any real plans and over time we brought it up again. For the first month or two we tested different host sites, trying to find one that fit what we wanted for our site. Finally we tested Forumotion and it seemed easy enough to maneuver and had all the features we needed to start out with. After a few weeks of setting up the layout and the forums, we decided to officially open the site in April of 2012.
3. What was the easiest part about making the site?
5. What fun things can we expect in the future for PS?
For me, I think it was coming up with the name. When it comes to creating the site, I would say the easiest part was the layout. We knew our color palette and we knew our theme. Everything else was just choosing fonts and creating buttons and other graphics. Though the layout has been changed a lot since then and it‘s a lot easier now because I have a better knowledge of what I need when updating.
We have a game that the other admin, TrinkaLs, has been working on since last year that I feel is going to be a huge hit. I can't give out too much info on that just yet, but I can say that the game will officially open February 22, but you can join at any time. We have a few other events in planning that haven't been officially announced yet. We're working on holiday games and some pretty big contests that will hopefully be announced in the coming months; as well as updating the content in our store.
4. When people join the site, what do they enjoy the most?
6. Where did you get the name for the site?
New members seem to enjoy the games section of our forums the most. It's the most active forum at the moment. Members have also commented on the other members of the community. Everyone gets along well and they welcome the new members. Some other features our members enjoy are the PS Store and our achievements system.
TattooedLioness and I were throwing out names; mostly just random things we thought would be fun or comical. Eventually, she came up with Purely Simspired and we thought about other names for a while before finally going back to Purely Simspired because we both really liked the name because we wanted the site to be creative and inspire the members in one way or another.
Hidden Springs Review By: DolphineQ Hidden Springs is probably one of the most beautiful and serene looking Worlds for Sims 3.
Situated at the foot of a mountain, with several roads leading up to lots on the mountainside, it's green and calm essence makes you feel right at home.
The middle of town is filled with great looking buildings and rabbitholes, the Spa being one of them. It's big, gorgeous to look at and behind it are two large pools for your Sims to enjoy, once they have had their beauty treatments in the Spa rabbithole.
Most of the Ambitions buildings are already placed in the World, such as the Fire Department, the laundromat and the Junk Yard. All the community lots for Hidden Springs have received a make-over, making them fit into this quiet and calm mountain town.
On the outskirts of town and up on the mountainsides, you will find some rather cute homes, many of them accessible by small dirt roads, which gives the World a little bit of an old -fashioned feel in many ways. The rustic street lamps, the iron rod mailboxes, it all adds to the charming mountain town lifestyle.
There are many interesting things about Hidden Springs.
One of the advantages this town has is the variety of lots and homes available for purchase. Another is the view from many of the mountainside lots. Looking down from one of the picnic parks, you get a stunning view of the waters surrounding Hidden Springs and the mountain range on the opposite side of the waters. And as far as hangouts go, you have a few really nifty choices. Larss Disco-Tech is great if you fancy some vibrant nightlife entertainment, Meadow Beach is a good place to catch some sunshine and the museum is also a fun place to explore, with three floors filled with objects to look at. Personally, I enjoy just taking a stroll around town, which in itself is a gem in regards to beauty.
The special object you get with Hidden Springs is the Fountain of Youth. Sadly it's not so affordable for the common Sim, so I strongly recommend placing it on a community lot for all Sims to be able to enjoy. Placing it near the waterfalls is always a good idea and going there to drink the drops of youth can be a really nice outing for your Sims. All in all, Hidden Springs is one of my favorite worlds for this game, because it leaves me feeling like I could settle down there, if I found a place like this in real life.
