PLANT ROOM

UPGRADE 2023

As part of the BCP Council Climate Action Strategy we are always investigating opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and utility costs across all council owned facilities.

In March 2023, £478k of funding was successfully obtained to upgrade the Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex swimming pool plant room. Implementation is currently underway, and these upgrades will significantly reduce annual utility costs and carbon emissions.

Following the unprecedented rise in energy costs, the recent failure of plant items together with their inherent inefficiencies compared to modern alternatives, the plant room at the 2RMLC required refurbishment. This includes installation of new controls and monitoring to enable full control of all the operational plant within the centre to reduce overall energy consumption but also create a platform

WHY WERE THE PLANT ROOM WORKS REQUIRED?

The existing boilers were non-condensing with an efficiency of 75% based on gross calorific value changing to condensing boilers will improve the efficiency to 96%, a saving of 21%. This work will also dramatically reduce our carbon emissions. In addition, we have replaced our pool cover. The new, modern version of our existing foam cover is easy to operate to ensure the heat of the water is retained and humidity within the Pool Hall controlled, again bringing about immediate savings .

GOAL!

newly resurfaced 3G pitches welcome players back!

The synthetic turf football pitches at 2 Riversmeet Leisure Complex in Christchurch are ready for the new season following their recent refurbishment.

The improvement works, which placed the 3G pitches out of bounds for five weeks, saw a full resurfacing in line with FA regulations.

Kick boards were also added around the perimeters to help stop the rubber crumb spreading beyond the pitch.

Funded by BCP Council’s Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy Fund using monies from the Future Infrastructure Programme Board, the maintenance was undertaken to ensure the pitches remain match fit.Councillor Millie Earl, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Connected Communities commented:

“As part of our Playing Pitch Strategy we’re continually improving and maintaining our facilities, enabling active, healthy lifestyles amongst our residents. Our synthetic turf football pitches at 2 Riversmeet Leisure Complex are very popular with over 50 regular adult and junior teams using these pitches each week, alongside many ad-hoc bookings, our seniors walking football group, and Monday night adult leagues, so this maintenance was very much needed. These pitches benefit a huge footballing community and we’re keen to encourage more local schools and colleges to make use of them. “

Christchurch Beachcombers Walk ing Football (pictured) commented:

“Our twice weekly walking football ses sions are very popular with the over 55s age group. We currently have around 60 members signed up to the team and we play in all weathers, so these resurfacing works are very much welcomed by all our members!”

AWARD WINNING #TEAM2RM

Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex has been recognised as the best in the south at a prestigious awards ceremony.

This year, 2RM were awarded Community Leisure Centre of the Year in the 2023/24 Prestige Awards for south England. These awards celebrate small and medium-sized businesses who have thrived in a competitive area and have proven their success.

This honour follows on from the complex being named as the south west Leisure Centre of the Year, for three years running. In addition, 2RM has been shortlisted for two awards in the 2023 National Fitness Awards in the Best Membership Campaign category, and the Local Authority Leisure Centre of the Year, with the outcome being decided at the awards ceremony in November.

Simone Hudspith, Business Development Team Leader at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex said:

“This award and the additional nominations are a great testament to the work of the whole Two Riversmeet team. “Despite being honoured in the Prestige Awards previously, this year’s award holds the most pride for all of us as delivering the community-based element is what many in the team find most rewarding and it’s great that this has been recognised. “The judges also commented on our social media interaction and the events that we run at short notice to help out in the community such as the women’s world cup football final which we held in our main hall earlier this year, to opening up our sports hall and providing last minute ‘inflatable fun days’ for schools that have been let down on their school trips. “We strive to be a valuable community asset and will work hard for this accolade to continue.”

Councillor Millie Earl, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Connected Communities, BCP Council said:

“This is absolutely fantastic news for the 2 Riversmeet team who are all passionate about delivering such an excellent leisure facility here in Christchurch, contributing so much to the local community. I congratulate each and every one of them on this award and the nominations as well – they should all be incredibly proud!”
