2014 Summer Conferences Applicant: Thank you for considering a Summer Conferences position. Summer operations are a vital component of our College, providing quality accommodations and service to more than 1,000 guests each summer. The summer at Simmons is a very active time in the residence halls, featuring activity from mid-­‐May through Move In Weekend. Our staff works hard to provide quality accommodations and services to groups who stay on campus. The success of our summer operations depends on staff members who are committed, dedicated, and available to work hard to meet the needs of our summer guests. We are equally committed to making the summer employment experience as positive and rewarding as possible for our staff! The Summer Conferences Staff Selection Process consists of three components: 1. Application-­‐ Submit a current resume and completed application by Friday, April 4 at 4:30pm to Sara Smith in the Buildings & Grounds Suite in E-­‐008 (basement of MCB). Any incomplete applications will not be eligible for an interview or for hire. 2. References-­‐ Request two individuals to serve as references for you. Both references should be able to speak to your work experience or skills (i.e., a past employer or supervisor) and preferably one is a Simmons College faculty or staff member for whom you have worked. Friends or family members are not acceptable references, nor are faculty members who can only speak to your academic skills. A reference form is included at the end of this application. It is your responsibility to confirm that your references have completed the Reference Forms and submitted them by the deadline (4/4 at 4:30pm). All reference forms must be inside a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature across the envelope seal. 3. Individual Interview-­‐ Sara Smith will contact candidates for interview April 7-­‐15. Not all applicants will be granted an opportunity to interview.

CONFERENCES OVERVIEW Conference groups come in all sizes and types, ranging from small high school groups to large national associations. Groups range in size from 5-­‐500 people. Average conference stays are around a week; however some groups may stay several weeks or just overnight. Conferences staff set up rooms with linens and prepare access cards and room keys for all participants. SUMMER CONFERENCES ASSISTANT POSITION DESCRIPTION General Responsibilities ü Prepare for visiting groups by preparing guest rooms, distributing linens, preparing and posting signage, and preparing registration materials. ü Manage check-­‐in & out process for conference guests including distributing keys, access cards, and housing registration forms. ü Provide on-­‐call coverage during evening, weekends and holidays. ü Perform tasks related to the closing and opening of the residence halls ü Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service. Position Requirements

ü Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at Simmons College. • Full Time Position-­‐ability to work 25-­‐35 hours/week from May 14 – August 31, 2014 including daytime shifts and evening on-­‐call coverage • Part Time Position-­‐ability to work 10-­‐25 hours/week from May 14 – August 31, 2014 including daytime shifts and evening on-­‐call coverage • Per Diem Position-­‐ability to work Reunion Weekend (May 30-­‐June 1), Orientation Week (June 16-­‐20), Move In Day (August 31) and other dates TBD to assist with busy times on campus. ü Must be enrolled as a Fall 2014 resident student or have a reliable off-­‐campus place to live between August 8-­‐August 31.

ü $8.50/hour, paid biweekly ü Free on-­‐campus housing. Housing assignments will be in a double room, and not guaranteed to be in a single-­‐sex building. There is a possibility that staff will be housed in the same building as Summer Conference guests, with expectation of sharing common areas and kitchen. ü 5 days of unpaid vacation may be requested but must be submitted in writing to the Manager of the Summer Conferences by the first day of employment. All requests will be reviewed by the supervisor and approved on a case-­‐by-­‐case basis. 3
