Peabody Hall FAQ W here is Peabody Hal l? Peabody Hall is located directly across the street from North Hall (#10 on the Residence Campus Map). It is a very short walk to Bartol (#15), the Holmes Sports Center (#12), the Residence Life office (#11), and the Health Center (#11). Pilgrim Road, which separates the Simmons College Campus from Wheelock campus is a very quiet residential street, and easy to cross to get to the residence campus. The entrance to Peabody Hall is 210 Riverway, Boston MA, 02215. W hat d oes a Peabody Hall r oom look like? Peabody rooms come in a great variety. There are some double rooms joined by one bathroom, some standard double rooms and some large standard triple rooms. Each student will have their own bed, desk, dresser and a shared closet. Students can rearrange their room however they like when they get to campus in order to make the space more comfortable to them. W hat are t he benefit s of living in Peabody? Peabody Hall provides a variety of housing options. The first year rooms are a mix of doubles and larger triple rooms, either adjoined by a common bathroom, or sharing a bathroom with a small number of friends in the hall (between 4-6 students are assigned to each bathroom). The 4th and 5th floor of Peabody not only have the best views in the building, but residents also have access to an elevator (making move-in day especially easy). Peabody Hall also has overhead lighting. The in building security desk with guest sign in is also a great resource to the Peabody residents. W hat is t he makeup of s tuden ts at Peabody? The Simmons’ floors, on the 4th and 5th floor of Peabody will be a mix of first years and sophomores. Simmons residents will have the opportunity to make friends with their peers in the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) by meeting female residents at Wheelock College who will also share the 4th floor with us. Floors 1-3 are filled with other Wheelock students, mostly women, and a few men (under 20). We are excited about this opportunity to bring these two COF schools together, as students always tell us that they would love to see more COF connection and activities.

Can resident s selec t a gr oup of st ud ent s they would wan t to share a bat hroom with? Should students find others they’d like to share a bathroom with, they can preference it on their housing application and we will do our best to accommodate. If they’ve already filled out their application, we can adjust their preferences on their Housing Application Change form which can be found on our website under the “New Student” section on the left. W ill I have acc ess t o the S immon s R esidenc e Camp us if I live at P eabody? Peabody Hall residents are just as much a part of the residence campus as any other resident student! They eat at Bartol Hall, work out at the Holmes Sports Center and can visit other residential friends. However, just like any other resident student, you will only have access to your own hall after 11:00pm at night. You are also welcome to come to the res campus through the Simmons Hall entry door after hours (after 10:30pm) to study in Bartol or Quadside. How does laundry work for residen ts? Washers and dryers are on the first floor of Peabody Hall. All laundry machines are equipped with LaundryView technology; students are able to check machine availability and the status of their laundry through www.laundryview.com. The laundry system is the same as the Simmnos res campus in terms of cost ($1.50 for wash and $1.50 for dry), uses LaundryView and Fenway Cash.

Double Room

Floor Lounge W hat is housekeep in g like at Peabod y? Wheelock will be responsible for cleaning of all public space within 4th and 5th floors including cleaning hallways and common areas and those bathrooms not located within suite-style units and for trash removal from central receptacles. Students with bathrooms located in “suites” (two rooms connected by a bathroom) will be responsible for their cleaning (similar to the Simmons res campus). How does t he gues t p olicy w ork at P eabody ? All resident students with visitors must sign in their guests at all times with a Public Safety Officer at Peabody Hall and receive a guest pass. Similar to Simmons policy, all visitors must be escorted in and out of the residence hall. Guests must also carry their pass with them at all times. Wheelock allows visitors to stay in residence halls for no more than three consecutive days and nights in any ten-day period. After staying in Peabody for the maximum amount of allowable time, a visitor is not allowed to stay overnight as a visitor of any Simmons resident student. Extended stays by visitors will be granted only on a limited basis at RD/RLC discretion after evaluating the specific circumstances of each request. W hich item s are pr ohibited? In addition to the prohibited items outlined in the Simmons College Undergraduate Housing license, items not allowed in Peabody Hall include: hotpots and coffee pots (except Keurigs), electric blankets, extension cords, decorative holiday lights, wireless routers and external flags hung from windows.

W hat is t he S im mons staffing at Peabody? Peabody hall will have 3 Simmons RA’s living on the floors with the Simmons students. They will share various responsibilities including programming, hall council, conflict mediation and more! A full time Simmons professional staff member supervises the RAs and oversee the residential students in coordination with the Peabody professional staff. How does Public Safety w ork at W heeloc k? Wheelock Public Safety officers are on duty 24 hours a day to help provide a safe campus environment. Students should immediately ask for assistance from a Wheelock Public Safety officer whenever they feel their safety is at risk or security within a residence hall has been jeopardized. Wheelock Public Safety officers may be reached on campus at extension 617-879-2151, or by pressing the red emergency button on any call box (call boxes are located outside the residence halls). Simmons College Public Safety is also available for all students. If a student needs to report a situation but not in immediate need of physical presence of a Public Safety officer, students are asked to call Simmons College Public Safety at 617-521-1112. Is t her e wireless in Peabod y? A / C? Peabody is equipped with wireless internet for both residents and guests. Unfortunetly there is not A/C, however, it is not needed the majority of the academic year. We recommend students bring fans for September and May.
