PIERIS By SulziSim

SIMStyle had the privilege to interview and catch up with the amazing Maxis match CC creator, Pierisim to find out more about his creations and even get some sneak peeks on what he is currently working on. Tell the readers more about yourself—the person behind Pierisim, where you are from, do you have any pets, etc.

I’m Pierick, a 27-year-old French guy. I come from the southwest of France, but I live now in Paris because of my job. I’ve made 3D modelling studies and I work now as a 3D modeller for animation movies. I have one pet, a big ginger cat who’s named Arnold. Apart from 3D, I really like drawing even if I don’t have a lot of time for this, meeting my friends, walking or hiking. I also used to be into photography a few years ago, and I really miss it! How did you get into creating custom content? I start creating cc during my master's degree, at the end of the first lockdown in France. During this time, I just started downloading cc, and as I was making 3D studies, I decided to

7

SUPSTYLEMGZ

try it too after following a few tutorials, and I really fell in love with creating content for a game I love since my childhood. I remember my first item was a broom, and it made my friends laugh because sometimes they call me a housekeeping maniac and my first CC pack was cleaning related. How hard do you find creating custom content and how do you stay motivated when anything goes wrong? I really wanted to make Maxis match cc and I found it hard at first to get the maxis to look, especially when their style is also evolving through the years. But it’s not as hard as getting special animating or function for an item that requires to know well the Sims 4 Studio, the software used to create cc. I’m still not really confident with this part, that’s why I keep making more “classic” items. I’m also really bad at coding and modifying the specificities of an item. I think that can be the most frustrating part because sometimes you really want to make something but you’re stuck and have to modify your plan. Did anyone help you learn to create

SIM CC?

It’s something I’ve started alone, but I’ve asked LittleDica for some help, and now with CharlyPancakes we share a lot of the new features we can discover and learn from each other a lot, especially during our first collab (Precious Promises)! Where do you get your inspiration for new packs? It comes from a lot of places, like the street

when I’m walking, shops I go through, and a lot from Pinterest, Instagram, magazines like Architectural Digest, or even movies sometimes. What programs would he suggest are the best for creating CC? There’s no “best” software, it depends on which is the most comfortable for you. For example, a lot of people use Blender as it’s free and very good, but I learn and work with Maya, so I keep using Maya for CC too. Same with Photoshop or other editing software! The only one everyone would require is Sims 4 Studio to import items in-game. What is your first gaming experience? I think it was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS1! What do you think of the Sims kits? Do you think they are worth the price for the content they have? I think I like the idea of kits, as it is a small addition and its easier to decide to buy it or not. I mean sometimes you buy an expansion

9

SUPSTYLEMGZ

pack for some build items or CAS items or gameplay, but you don’t like most of the rest of it. But some kits can be worth the price and others not because of the amount of content. Kits really look like the cc pack marketplace. Should The Sims do more collab with CC and mod creators? Yes, that’s a really good way to include people working around The Sims into the game, and it brings really fresh content to the game!

Who would you like to see do a collab with The Sims (other than yourself of course)?

community or in your personal life? Tell us more about why this person is so important to you.

That is a real hard question, but I think CharlyPancakes, LittleDica or Max20.

Unfortunately, I don't really have a big male figure. There is my stepfather and grandfather that I really like and I use to enjoy time with them or ask for advice, but not a strong male figure, it was more, my mother, that always try to do the best for me.

Do you have any WIP you can share with the readers? I have some WIP of the MCM House bathroom, I’m really excited with some items from this set! This month, we celebrate male figures because it's the month of fathers day. Do you have male figures you look up to in the

We thank you so much for the opportunity to interview and chat with you abut your custom content making journey and I can’t wait to see what lies in store for you in the future.

As we celebrate men in this month’s magazine issue, one of the people we got to feature is McLaynesims. He is an amazing and dedicated CAS CC maker who has created a lot of men’s attires inspired by different styles. Let’s get to know more about McLaynesims. Kindly describe who you are as McLaynesims. Ummm.. For me, As McLayneSims, it's fun and exciting because people get to know you, you get to know a lot of people, and most of all I make a lot of friends. Where are you from? And what is your nationality?

answer this! But, it depends on your mood if you’re productive or not. 3 if you’re inspired and 8 if, you know? Haha and also, depending on the CC you’re making! :D But overall, I’m in the safe zone - it’s 6. Can you give us a background or story behind why you focus on male outfits? I noticed it when I started playing TS2. Come on! It’s very obvious hahaha men’s clothing is really lacking in The Sims game. Like tshirts and jeans then that’s it! There is no variety. And only very few actually make men's clothing, which is sad.

I’m from the Philippines and I’m a proud Filipino. What inspired you to be a custom content (CC) maker of The Sims 4? Too many. I would say “who”. I was really inspired by other CC Creators like Harmonia, Birba32, Shakeproductions, Remaron, and my TSR family. I remember thinking to myself, I’m going to be one of them. Thanks to them for being a great inspiration. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being very easy and 10 being very difficult, can you please rate CC making? Why so? Hahaha, wait I don’t know how to

SUPSTYLEMGZ

16

Where do you get inspiration for CC making? My kiddos and of course, The Sims Community inspire me every day. How is your experience with every custom content you create? Sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s easy. There are times when you don't know what you’re actually doing but, vrrrooomm!! just go ahead hahaha What are the challenges and rewards of being a CC maker? The challenges? Hmmm I think for me, the challenge I’m facing in making CC is that “WHAT CC I’M GOING TO MAKE” haha. Rewards? Of course, it’s the recognition from the players and the community. What are tips you can give for newbies trying to make custom content? Go for it. Experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new things! Explore your creativity! What can we expect from you in the coming months as a CC maker? Hmmm… haha I don't know yet because I'm not the type of person who plans things right away. But I can only say one thing, I will make sure you’ll like whatever it is. Hehe. SALAMAT (Thank you)

So as you can guess, I have a lot of questions for you! But first, I would love for our readers to know more about the person behind the creator. Who is MyCupOfCC, where are you from, what are your hobbies outside of CC creation, what is your star sign, favourite food, and if you could choose anywhere in the world for a holiday, where would it be and why? I’m from Belgium, but moved to the UK 2 years ago. So I’m sorry for any spelling errors I might make! I used to have more hobbies including theatre and running, but sadly as I grew older, work and studies got more in the way of those. Currently, I spend most of my free time (when not working on CC) on my cats, reading graphic novels, playing games and watching anime. My zodiac sign is Virgo, I assume that is the same as a star sign? My favourite food depends on the mood I’m in, I think currently tomato risotto or vol-au-vent. And my ultimate holiday destination at the moment would be one of the Norway fjords. I just love being close to nature and taking long hikes with amazing views. Now for the bit, I know our readers will be eager to know. How did you find The Sims, or as I always feel is more correct, how did The Sims find you? I think it was through one of my friends who had The Sims 1 at the time. I just fell in love with the game and never stopped playing, to be honest. What is your favourite part of The Sims franchise, and what do you think

21

SUPSTYLEMGZ

needs the most improvement?

MYCUPOFCC

My Cup Of CC is an amazing Build/Buy CC creator that has been in the CC creating community for a while now. Our very own Sami had a chance to chat to her.

For me it’s always been Building. When I was younger, I really wanted to be an architect growing up, so being able to create my dream houses and then play with them was amazing. I personally think The Sims franchise has lost a bit of its charm along the way, it became more hollow. Even when Sims have more emotions they lack the depth they once had, they used to have all these very quirky things Sims would do or a variety of different reactions. I hope for the future they might go back to their roots and add those in fromboth The Sims 1 and The Sims 2. Build/buy wise I personally love The Sims 4 the most, I just love the aesthetic, the only complaint there would be not a colour wheel but the separate swatch system The Sims 2 had. I think if they would add that, it would be a gamechanger for builders! How did you decide to become a CC creator, and what difficulties have you faced any major obstacles you had to overcome?

That’s a good question, I personally love using Maxis match CC. One day, I just thought to myself, “why didn’t I start making my own CC,” since I already had knowledge on how to make 3D models and how to texture them, and the only thing I had to learn (and still am learning) is how to add them to the game and make them fit in. My original plan was just creating items for myself without thinking of sharing them with others, since there were already so many great CC creators out there and I wasn’t sure anyone

would even like my creations. But, my sister gave me the courage to share my first set online and that is kinda how it started. Obstacle wise, I would definitely say I’m my own obstacle a lot of the time. I often doubt my own skillset which isn’t very productive. I then would push some items back due to the lack of confidence in my own skills, thinking it would come out not good. And since I’m a bit of a perfectionist, I also wouldn’t want to share items I’m not proud of. This is definitely something I had to overcome and often still struggle with. You are a texture artist working in animation, can you tell us more about what this entails? As a texture artist, my job entails creating materials for objects. When the 3D model comes to me, it’s like a blank canvas that I have to paint not only in the correct material (wood, plastic, metal, etc.), but also

match it to the style of the movie I’m working on. You recently hit your first Twitterversary in May (congratulations by the way), and I have to admit, I am such a fan, I have every piece of your CC in my collection. How have you found the reaction to your CC from this community to be? Has this influenced your work in any way and if so how?

I can’t believe it’s already been a year to be honest, and it took me by surprise all the support I got. Like I said before, I doubt myself quite often, so to read all the positive comments and support surrounding my cc work has been amazing. I love getting feedback and involving my Patreon backers in the making of my CC. So this has definitely influenced me in deciding what I make. One of my favourite pieces of your CC is The Turkey item in your November 2021 pack, which was also chosen by your Patreon

followers and this one was chosen by Victoria. Not only is it super cute, but it also adds so much character when used in interior design. Where do you get your inspiration for your designs? For the Patreon-chosen objects, the items come directly from them. If they win a trivia round, they can send me a picture of an item they want in the game and then I make that item for them. I get the rest of my inspiration from pinterest, furniture stores, etc. On my Pinterest, I have so many folders of potential CC pack ideas. Is there anything you h a v e n ’ t created that you would like to have a go at creating in the future? I would also love to know, and if we can get a sneak peek of any CC you have coming up, can we get an exclusive reveal, or is everything still under wraps?

23

SUPSTYLEMGZ

I would love creating a baby and toddler focused pack in the future, tackling the bassinet seems like a fun challenge. Another thing I would love to learn would be making CAS items, I haven’t tried that yet, but it’s on my list. Currently, I’m working on part 2 for the Teenage Dream kit. I also have a surprise CC kit that I have worked on that will come out around the end of this month. Whilst in the midst of this interview, I know you are getting ready to release your Teenage Dream pack. I love the way you have created the computer with different colours for the keyboards. Any teen Sim would love this pack. How did you decide to create this pack? Was this also chosen by your Patreon users, or was this something you just had to create and why? 6 months ago, I released a poll on my Patreon what type of pack they wanted to see in the future. And everyone seemed to want a teenage focused pack. So a couple months later after finishing my dining room set, I started gathering references for items that would fit that theme. You have created so many beautiful items, from fireplace decor to lights, furniture and your Sims kids ‘wooden’ toys, such as the toy train set, which I have used so many times in my designs

since it was released. It is so real to life (and my own child had one of these sets), along with the gorgeous rug that is also a part of this set, for the trains to sit on, also real to life for anyone who ever had this as a child. Is there anything you had as a child you would like to create as CC in the future? I think I would love to recreate the typical plastic playhouse that almost every kid had when I was growing up. And now, it should be doable since we have a similar item in the game with the play tent from Dream Home Decorator, so I can make it functional. Let's talk about something I know everyone wants and loves. HOT TUBS! Your Nostalgia Hot Tub for the base game is also influenced by The Sims 2 and comes in, (please correct me if I am wrong) 13 colours. Are any of your other creations influenced by other genres of The Sims games and not The Sims 4? It comes in 17 comes in 17 colours, 3 are a more rustic version of the painted ones where you can see the wood in areas where the paint has worn off. I have some items from older games that are definitely on my to do list for the future, mostly objects that I just loved

SUPSTYLEMGZ

24

from previous games. But currently, I think only the hot tub is directly inspired by The Sims 2. There are so many fantastic CC creators in the community, if you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? I would love collaborating with Max20 or Charly Pancakes. I think both are amazing CC creators, I personally have all their sets in my game. The maple construction windows from Charlie Pancakes are amazing, same for his smol set! And the master bedroom collection from Max20 is almost always used in one of my personal builds. He just nails the Maxis match style.

Being a very bad CC creator myself (I can just about re-colour), what advice would you give to budding CC creators out there? Is there any CC creation recommended videos or links you would recommend they use whilst learning? And how do you stay motivated when things are not going according to plan? I would definitely recommend using the forums on "The Sims 4 Studios" website for all questions/ information regarding making CC. And for the modelling texturing part (if you are new to those), I would definitely recommend watching 3dEx on youtube, they have so many tutorials for stylised props from start to finish. They use Maya and Substance Painter, but the same model principles go for Blender. Staying motivated is not always easy. I have weekends where I can spend hours working on my CC but I also have weekends where I’m just too tired from my work week/ personal life that I can’t

25

SUPSTYLEMGZ

bring myself to start working on it. The most important thing to stay motivated is taking breaks when needed because you don’t want to force yourself; this can only lead to demotivation and, even worse, a burnout. As we come to the end of this interview, and this month we are also dedicating our magazines to Inspirational Men in the community and across the world. Who has been your male influence in your life, and if you could give them a message, what would it be?

support you. You can find me on Twitter, Patreon and Instagram, all under the username mycupofcc. Thanks again for this interview and we look forward to seeing more of your amazing creations coming up.

It would be for my dad, he is always there for me and supported me with everything I did. He taught me how to be strong and that I can achieve a lot through hard work. I’m really grateful for him and my mom. The message for him would be; Thank you for believing in me and giving me the freedom to grow. Sadly, this is my last question, please tell all our readers, how they can find, follow and

FASHION AD DRESS FOR THE SETTING: Style is not merely about selfexpression; it’s also about being dressed appropriately for your environment. Think of clothes as being codes: you need the right combination to work with the setting you’re in – and that’s whether it’s a formal dinner or a lazy Sunday in the pub.

KNOW WHEN TO BREAK THE RULES: Know when to adhere to dress codes such as black tie and know when to break them. Some are there for a good reason, typically because the occasion demands it or some higher authority

SUPSTYLEMGZ 37

DVICE CHOOSE VERSATILE OUTERWEAR: The temptation may be to wear a classic style, but modern technical fabrics in darker shades and easy cuts are making coats what they should be – lightweight and breathable but also properly protective. “Changes in seasonality, the climate and buying habits are making heavy wool coats seem out of keeping now”

A GOOD SUIT: The key to a suit looking good is fit. If you’re buying off-the-peg, focus on the fit across the shoulders because getting the chest and waist altered is a relatively easy job.

PRADA POSES TALKS ABOUT CONTENT CREATION & FILLING THE GAP FOR MALE SIMS By Grace

S

ul sul! Grace here. Our featured pose pack creator this June is Guilherme Prada of Prada Poses, who is a passionate pose creator for The Sims 4 and has made different poses that many Simmers alike could use for role playing, storytelling, modeling, and many more. His realistic and trendy poses are focused more on male Sims, filling the gap for the lacking male-related content in the game. He is truly amazing, as male poses are hard to find online. We’re also glad to be able to catch Guilherme for an interview, so let’s get to know more about him!

41 | SUPSTYLE MAGAZINE

JUNE 2022 |

42

Hi there! Kindly introduce yourself and tell us something about yourself, like, where are you from? What is your nationality? What do you prefer to be called? What are your hobbies? What are your interests? Any favorites? etc. Hi! My name is Guilherme Prada, I'm 26 years old and I currently live in New York with my son Gael. I work as a DJ and I'm a businessman, I have my own nightclub. I also work as a model and love to travel and discover new places. How long have you been playing The Sims 4? Which is your favorite thing to do in The Sims 4? I've been playing The Sims 4 for about 7 years, right after its release. I was reluctant to move from The Sims 3 to The Sims 4, but it was inevitable. Today, what I like the most is to create Sims. I spend hours in the CAS creating Sims with many different styles. When did you start making poses for The Sims 4? And what pushes you to continually create poses? I've been creating poses for a little over a year. At first, all creations were for my own use, but with the encouragement of friends and due to the scarcity of male poses, I decided to make mine available. As I was very well received in the market, I felt encouraged to continue the creations. Who or what inspired you to be a pose maker for The Sims 4? The necessity! As I'm a DJ, I've always missed poses focused on this area, and that's why I took the risk of doing poses. Since then, I haven't stopped. Kindly tell us how it is like to be a pose creator. Like, what is the easiest or most complicated thing to learn? What challenges have you experienced along the way?

expressions, but it's something I managed to improve with practice. In creating poses, where do you get ideas from? I always try to do poses that are harder to find out there, but without a doubt, my main source of inspiration is Pinterest. How long does it usually take you to finish a pose pack? Any tips for beginners on how to start making poses? Oh, this is very relative. I can take weeks on a single pack or even finish it in a single day. It really depends on how inspired I am. For those who want to start, I suggest you have patience because it is a process that takes time. Aside from making poses, have you tried creating custom content for The Sims 4? If yes, which is easier to do: making custom content or pose packs? If not, will you try making CC? Yes! I learned to create objects and I intend to improve myself, so I can create accessories and use them with my poses, but it's just a project for the future. Creating poses is still my focus. For aspiring pose makers, what is your advice to them? Creating poses requires patience and dedication. It may seem complicated, but it is very relaxing when you really enjoy creating. So, be persistent! What pose packs do you plan on creating for the community in the coming months? Ah, I have a lot of ideas and packs already in progress, just waiting for the right moment to be released. My focus is the male audience, but I intend to bring a pack for everyone to use. Thank you Guilherme for your time! -

I love creating poses. Feeling that I have the freedom to be able to create and not just be stuck with what already exists is very inspiring. At first, I had a lot of difficulties, especially with facial
